Pebbles: A reminder of my days in college

I was listening to "Girlfriend" today and it reminded me of a break up I had in college and all my friends would always play that song. lol What silly girls we were but it was our anthem.

I actually liked Pebbles back in the day. Giving you the benefit, Always, Mercedes...etc.

Big ups to Evangelist Perri

and a shout to her cousin Cherrelle...

Pebbles was SO BIG back in the late 80's.....everyone I knew had her ALWAYS album. I have fond memories of watching BET/Video Soul with Donnie Simpson on and seeing him play her videos.."Backyard" w/Salt & Pepa, "Love Make Things Happen" w/ Babyface, etc. My favorite song by her is probably "Always." I LOVE that song!

Her second album was really good. "Stay With Me" is one of my favorites off that album, along with "Always"

"giving u the benefit" was the only song I liked of her.....karyn white was better in my book, as was Jody watley!

I think Babyface worked better with sheena eason then with Pebbles! Nothing Pebbles did was as good as "the lover in me"!

eek O MY! I was never a fan of The Lover In Me....it sounded cheesy to me back then...I didnt know Babyface did that song neutral .....I guess we all have our ups and downs....anyhow..I think that Babyface produced WELL with Pebbles but I think there was more chemistry with Karyn because she is a better vocalist than Pebbles.....their duet LOVE SAW IT was hot!!

I bought her greatest hits (a Hip-O release from 2000, so I doubt it was approved by her or "offical" in the way something like "The Immaculate Collection" is). Anyway, I really didn't like all the entire thing at first listen (I only dug the big hits like "Girlfriend" and "Mercedes Boy" that I heard on radio) but now it's definately up there with some of the best 80s R&B/dance music out there.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the Nia Peeples/Valerie Bertinelli resemblance. They're both HOT!!!

I had a MAJOR crush on Pebbles back in the day! She is one sexy lady razz

There's a slight Prince connection. On her debut 1987 album, there's a song called "Love/Hate" which was written and produced by Andre Cymone. In 1988,she toured as the opening act for Morris Day on his 'Daydreaming' tour.

I think her best song is the Babyface duet "Love Makes Things Happen" which also had a superb video.Anybody remember that one?

Yeah, she married LA Reid and then tried to "pimp" TLC by taking a huge portion of their profits. She's the reason they had to file for bankruptcy.

Pebbles was mah gurl. Bump all that TLC Behind the music jive. She provided the jams.

"Do ya wanna ride in mah Mercedes boy, tell me whatcha gonna do (wit me, wit me, wit me!)"

"Girlfriend, how could you let him treat ya so bad?"

"I can be a trip, but I CHOOSE not to!"

Big Ups to Pebbles, indeed. thumbs up!

I liked Pebbles as a singer back then. But after what she did with TLC, she just became this royal beeeeyatch, and I wasn't really feeling that.

By the way, didn't she marry L.A. Reid?

nod She did. And they were involved in an extremely bitter divorce that prompted her exit from the entire music industry.

Pebbles was a cold girl, though. She wanted that cheddar and it got the best of her towards the end. It didn't mater who she stepped on, she wanted her money -- she was almost like Suge Knight in that regard.

I was going to mention this awhile back but I could'nt think of his name or find any pictures. Janet Jackson fans would definitely know who he is. Following are some of the videos he has appeared in:

Janet Jackson - What Have You Done For Me Lately (he's her dance partner in the video).

Janet Jackson - Escapade

Janet Jackson - Nasty - he tries to hit on Janet (I believe) at the very beginning of the video.

Pebbles - Mercedes Boy

Sting - We'll Be Together

..and many more

I remember seeing him on Sally Jessy Raphael years ago after his sex change talking about how he used to cry when he would be intimate with women and they would ask him why he was crying etc. He said he always knew he wanted to be a girl and had to stop living a lie. He looked like a totally different person, I could'nt believe he had a sex change, I used to think he was so cute.
Ohhh you keep saying stay the niiiiiiiiight
Just let me rock you 'til the morning liiiiiiight

And much too late to driiiiiiiive

I'm so lost without your love

I don't have any pictures - I just happened to see it on some tabloid show a while back. All I can say is that he didn't look like a woman. More like a man in bad drag getup who desperately wants to be a woman. It was sad...

BTW, is there good drag getup?

Actually,no she didn't.The songs on their debut album were written and produced by Babyface,Dallas Austin and Marley Marl, and I don't think Pebbles was too involved with the second album either.I think she feels that she was laregly responsible for their look and image, but that's debatable too.
