This week I was good. I firmly declared that I wouldn't buy ANYTHING that wasn't in the used bin. That said, here's what I got today:

...ok, so i mighta gone a little overboard.

The Killers album was in there?!?! WTF?!?

" Somebody told me, you had a girlfriend who looked liked your boyfriend somebody had in Febuary of last year " or something to that extent. The Killers seem like a worthy group to listen to, tell us more when you hear it.

i just gave the first half of the album a cursory first listen today - i had no idea what to expect, but i was a little cynical given that i'm pretty lukewarm about most of the new-wave inspired bands coming out lately (interpol, hot hot heat, franz ferdinand, etc.)...and i was kinda sorta on the fence when i started listening to the killers - they're certainly cut of the neo-new-wave cloth like those other bands - but when i got to the "girlfriend who looked like your boyfriend" song, they got me. i LOVE that song. i can kinda sorta see what all the hooting and hollering is about with these guys - even if they're just a one-hit wonder, that song alone is badass and very much worth a bit of hype. i'm all for it. i'll have to tellya more about the album overall once i've given the whole thing a few more spins.

meanwhile, of all the goodies i got today, the faithless album is in the lead by leaps and bounds. more details later, but this album is kicking my ass.

I loaded Faithless and The Killers albums into Rhapsody, so I'll let you know what I think!

Oddly enough, Interpol, Franz Ferd and Hots are groups who like. They certainly aren't ground breakers or original, but they're campy and cool. Maybe when they have some more work behind them, I can see if I'll still like them.

Cool that you're digging the Faithless. I've actually been eyeing it for awhile myself. I love that song they've got out now.

Good tie-in with Tricky. I always thought of Faithless as Tricky-lite.

My bf picked up the Killers a few weeks ago. It sounds alright but, alterna-radio is KILLING the single and I can barely stand them right now. I hate when radio does that.

Honestly, that's still one of the best record stores I've been to. Back when I was visiting Chicago on a nearly monthly basis, my best friend and I would go every time. It's dangerous financially, cuz I'd always leave with about 10 more cd's and 100 less dollars than I came with.

the used CD gods were particularly generous today, that's all i can say. but i usually tend to have really good used CD karma...i can find any new release in the used bin for 8.99 or 9.99, usually the week it comes out, or sometimes even BEFORE it comes out. if the ability to get cheep CDs is my super mutant power, i ain't complaining.

OK, I give up. I'm a trendster. I've bought records from bands just because their songs have been spun to death on radio, but the Killers are not on that list. I want to try them, but like others here, I'm tiring of that " Somebody " song already. Such phenomenons have'nt kept me from later buying such CD's, but I need to use some self control.

As for groups like Faithless, Tricky and so on, I'll leave them for you.

don't sleep on faithless. they're a really good pop/dance band that SHOULD be overplayed, but aren't.

meanwhile, i haven't been oversaturated by killers yet, because i don't listen to radio (except for what i'm exposed to at work, but that's always the classic soul station, which oddly enough never plays bands like killers, heh). i've heard their one "big" song maybe once or twice, but i couldn't tell you where.

the Laurie disc...good one. Took me forevah to pick it up. I play someone else's dream and white lily back to back in my set all of the time. Works really well with just her voice on top of ambient music. "What flower represents days go by? The pharmacist says...white lily." Yep..that song has made it's mark on me. A good friend of mine liked her to and when he passed recently, I sent a white lily to his parents. Another friend happened to be with them when they got it and she knew immediately what it meant. That flower lasted for 2 weeks.

Ahhh tricky...I couldn't bring myself to get the disk...so I got the DVD. Way cool. Very good Tricky interview.

Which wrecka stow do you go to? just curious as to what your favorite is. Me thinks you go a bit off the beaten path.

i do most of my wrecka stow damage here in my neighborhood in boystown...i usually shop at reckless records on broadway near belmont, but sometimes i'll trek over to evil clown records - their prices are way high, but they get in a lot of obscure yummy stuff - a lot more obscure than what reckless tends to carry. plus whenever i go into evil clown, the gruff but loveable manager always puts on the first suicide record and gives me a little scary grin - it's very cute in a "high fidelity" kinda way.
