LARRY GRAHAM BORED ME SHITLESS FOR 3 FRICKIN HOURS AT PAISLEY PARK

when i was at paisley park for the celebration in 2001, i managed to get into the preview listening session of the then unreleased "rainbow children" album which was great. we were told that this particular group i was in would be invited to a discussion about the new album after we had listened to it and that prince would be there and it would be filmed....
...brilliant, i thought...a chance to talk about his new music with the man himself in attendance
duh should have known better.....we are all sitting and standing in paisley park with a camera crew there and a large breaded man walks in who i recognise to be the film director "kevin smith" who proceeds to outline what is going to happen....fine....so we are standing about waiting and then larry graham walks in and almost immediately starts going on about his view on how we should all live our lives around the bible rolleyes...so he bores us to death with this for a little time and then we see the man himself walk in and he gets a round of applause and the atmosphere gets a little better.
...
...the first thing he asks us all is what did we think of the album and not to be scared to say anything bad about it but he got a positive reaction as you would expect from die-hard fans(i wasn't blown away with the album on the first listen but it has grown on me since then) and then larry just took over again and for the next two hours, i stood there listening to him preaching his view on religion which almost bored me to tears bawl prince largely took a back seat during this and every now and then would say something to the group which were mainly lighthearted jokes( at least when prince talked, he was interesting)
...
...the only thing that stopped me from walking out was the fact that prince was there....yes....and there was that beautiful piano he has standing in the middle of the room and i was hoping that... just maybe.... he might play something for us but it never happened, so once larry had sucked the last part of our lifeforce from us , we were on our way.
...
...you gotta love our larry machinegun lol

Personally, I would've just got up, and walked - especially hearing some of the negative homo comments that were made. I know someone that was there too - they're gay, and they said they felt really uncomfortable, especially when the assembled fammy throng were laughing heartily at Lazza's jibes.

No man, I would've walked...

I musta lucked out because after I heard the album, I was led into the atrium and there was Kevin Smith who talked about what was going on. Everyone started talking about the album and after about 20 minutes Prince walked in, sat down on the piano stool and chatted with us for about 15 minutes! Then he invited us to rehearsal but unfortunatly his band wasn't ready so we got to see the Funky Baldheads rehearse for awhile.

[b] I would not stay around the preaching and the Graham blah, blah, blah...I would have the guts to speak up and ask Prince to sit at his piano and play something to us...that is a chance in a million and I would not let it go...

Nobody ever told me there was a Celebration. Last time I saw Prince and Larryand Chaka was in 1998 in Atlantic city. When I came back to my home it was funny cause I was in the front row of some Church Bus group. Prince wasn't preaching back in 1998 then next time I was back in his Groove was 2002 and he was like AlreadyConverted or something. I saw Larry at the Celebration and he didn't say anything about Gays. When I met Mr Graham in AC well he was pleasant and nice. I wish somehow Everything could be the same as it was back then in 1998 . Prince didn't Change because of Larry ya know. Prince Changed because of Mayte. He was one way before Mayte and then after the MARRIAGE well he Changed. He met Manuela and now I think he's getting back to where he was before ya know. I think he is Happy Again. Mayte Really Hurt him. I think it was Devestation . But why did he let Paisley Park go to Shambles? Why was Mayte in Spain and Outta Sight but Manuela is Held so Close? Just seems weird and all the fans wanna know what the Deal is with the Dates with his Marriage,Divorce and the Mani hook-up. Fans think Prince and Manuela were Cheating and wonder how the jehovah's could Welcome them into their Congregation. This is the buzz among fans.

Why is it that everytime someone starts talking abput religion people start with the insults? Its not as if Larry or any other Rev. or preacher are saying things that are negative. Love is positive, respect is positive, honor is positive. Its not as if hes telling you to go out and drink until you get drunk an then get in your car and drive as fast as you can, or to go out and cheat on your wife or husband. He speaks positive words. Take it for what it is worth.I can really relate to prince when he said that the people who want him to do all of the swearing and the older sexy stuff, that it shows alot about who they are. Your surpose to get better as a person as you grow, not the other way around. I,ve been a fan for 25 years and I don't let my fam watch certain videos or listen to certain songs. I will let them at the right time when they are older. And as far as the Gay situation, It is what it is. The bible clearly says that it is against this practice, in fact it is considered an abomination. As my pastor says, God loves the sinner but hates the sin. I'm born again but I still have gay friends. They are human just like me and they sin just like me. That doesn't make us bad people, that just makes us not perfect. Don't be so scared by religion, you just might learn a thing or two, and if you don't its still positive right?

it doesn't matter, because anyone who thinks being gay is a sin because of "what the bible says" is still a complete moron.

"Being gay" is not a sin, and that's not what the Bible says.
Everybody who wants to have an opinion on this: Study the subject before judging anything or anyone.

im sorry but preaching to people about how they should be living their lives when they are old enough to make up their own mind, i can't accept. i don't like it when prince tries to do it and i can't stand it when larry graham tries it.
...
...i am a reluctant atheist but i dont have anything against people who believe in one religion or the other..i just dont want to have to listen to sermons on something i don't believe in...just give me the funky music headbang.....thats my religion biggrin

Judging by the fact that you couldn't right one sentence without insulting someone tells me alot about who you are. You totally missed the point. Wheather you agree or not at least it is positive. And yes, the bible does say that homosexuality is an abomination. Weather you agree or not don't tell me what the book says, I read the thing twice. Again ,I treat everyone equal, and I'm by no means perfect, hell no one in the church or the world is perfect. It just is what it is.

Err? Obviously 'being gay' or 'practising' it, is something completely different.

Btw, back to the original subject:
being bored by stuff you don't wanna know about, and staying for three hours listening to it just because 'your' Prince is around is a demonstration of how strange people start to behave when they're blinded by stardom & under the influence of their idol worshipping.

Don't blame anyone but yourself, and THINK for yourself next time, whatever other people might think. Even if those 'other people' include Prince or Mr. Graham. wink

Gray, I have no idea what you are talking about. Larry and his band were one of the funkiest bands of the 70's, and he continued it in the 80's. And he can still play the hell out of that bass. If you don't like religion or anything that is positive then that is your personal issue. But to say that larry can't play or he kills a show is just silly. No one that plays music will agree with you on that merit.

actually it's his cheeseball 70's/80's playing and singing styles and stage presence that bore me to tears. yes, they were great for their time, but in all his time as a sideman for Prince, i can't think of one decent musical moment he's contributed to Prince's career. the bass on Last December comes close, but i can't help thinking that, like all of his other contributions, it would have worked out better without him. and that's just speaking on the music. i'm not even addressing his influence on Prince as a person.

keep your shoes on Larry. your funk is dead....

Zelaria your #'s are seriously askew. For starter not half of all Priest are gay and not half of all Nuns are Lesbian. As a matter of fact the #'s are substantially fewer that half maybe 3 or 4% and that is being liberal with the #'s. Also your are referring to one practice of the Christian faith which is Catholisim so those when you spread that even further the #'s get even smaller. If you see Bishops, Priest, Ministers, Nuns, or any other Christian related clergy practicing homosexual behavior they are going against scripture. This is not opinion this if fact. Having this argument is the equivalent of me saying 2+2= 4 and you saying it equals 5. The logic does not add up.
Now of course if you don't believe in Christianity or the teachings of the Bible then all I can say to that is. Okay cool walk your walk. Everything I say to you from the Bible will seem like foolishness. I can live with that. I can even respect your belief. Where I have to draw the line as a Christian is when someone who does not read the bible and does not know it, tries to speak lies and mistruths about it. In the scripture it clearly states in Leviticus, and in Pauls letter to the Romans that homosexuality is a sin. That is both old and new testament. And these are just two examples. The scripture is ripe with its opinions about homosexuality.
So where do we go from here? I am sure I am in the UTTER MORON crowd that you are speaking about. I can live with that, the difference is you are speaking opinion and I am speaking scriptural fact. Like it or not these are the teaching of the Holy Scriptures. I for one try to change to the bible not try to change the bible when I read something in it that challanges me. As always some people will be offended. However this ultimately means nothing as long as the truth of the written scripture is honored.
Peace

I walked out of Maceo's "workshop" at the 2002 celebration, and Prince was sitting in the corner.

after about an hour of his life's story, and him only getting up to his freshman year in high school, i'd had enough. got up off my cushion in the third row and walked out over the unlucky corpses who'd succumbed to the boredom already. slowly, i saw most of my friends come out one at a time afterward lol

In most religions of the world and culture that is homosexuality is not looked upon as an acceptable practice in the human make up. Historically tho it has been considered "natural" to have homosexualality to exist.

It doesn't matter tho a person should be with who ever makes them happy. I myself don't find the "male" gay lifestyle appealing one bit and if I had to come back as anything other than a man in the next life it would be as a very sexy lesbian woman...just so I still bang woman all night long wink
