Prince and Pink Floyd

Both are extremely talented performers without whom I would not be the same kind of person you know today. Has either artist ever given props to the other or covered another's song in concert? And any Floyd fans in the house?

I highly extremely totally really honestly DOUBT IT.

They just exist in totally different universes.

I love them both, too, though.

Floyd fan here!

There was a thread I was reading earlier today suggesting (or rather rumouring and asking for confirmation) that Prince had played some of Wish You Were Here at an aftershow, but I can't find it now. Either it's gone or I've lost my ability to use the search facility. Wasn't one of yours MrSquiggle, was it?

I can't really imagine Prince doing any Floyd covers, although I'd love to hear him having a go at Not Now John, Corporal Clegg and Time (for starters).
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Floyd and Prince both make TRIPPY ass music!

I have commented to friends in the past that Prince is like FUNKY FLOYD!

methinks gilmour must like that song.

Floyd was great until Roger Waters left after that the lyrics haven't been nearly as good. The Wall is one of my fav's of all time. Gilmour is def a great guitarist but I just don't like Floyd with him frontin. Floyd is kinda bluesy, i'd love to hear them cover Purple Rain.

Im sure Prince has some sort of respect for Pink Floyd, I saw on somebody's 3 O'Clock website that said Pink Floyd was a influence on them and Prince, which makes since seeing that the Paisley Underground movement was influenced by Psychedelic bands like Floyd. As a musician you can be influenced by a artist in theory without sounding like them. So I wouldn't be surprised at all.

P.S

I love Floyd and

The Dark Side Of Oz is one of my favorite films

Yeah, I seen that performance. It made perfect sense 2 me 4 David Gilmour 2 perform "Purple Rain". If u listen to the solos on Comfortably Numb, u can hear P took some from that 2 add in his solo 2 Purple Rain. In style, the 2 solos r similar. Pink Floyd is one of my fave bands.

Well there are really four phases of Pink Floyd.

1) Piper through Atom Heart Mother
2) Meddle through Wish You Were here
3) Animals through the Final cut
4) David Gilmour years

For me: a definite yes to the first two, and I'll take a pass on the last two.

Prince and the band did a small portion of Wish You Were Here during the Sydney Basement Aftershow on 25 October 2003.
