Clear Tapes

I was just thinkin' back in '85 when Prince started coming out with the clear/see through tapes. Ya'll remember it was the same time he started using the Paisley Park logo. Those bad boys smelled GOOD. Was he the first to use those? Don't ask me why I'm thinking about this. I just am. confused

A lot of albums came out on those clear tapes back in the '80s - I always prefered 'em to the white or black tapes, and red tapes were just cheesy and cheap looking.

But the Paisley Park tapes always DID have that sweet yummy smell to 'em...all's I gotta do is take a huff of Romance 1600 on cassette and suddenly it's 1985 again...stoned

Kinda hard to explain...just really sweet...kinda vanilla but not really...just kind of a yummy sweet ink smell. My Madhouse 16 tape reeks of the smell still, I'll keep it in a zip-loc and let you have a whiff sometime. nuts

All of the clear tapes smelled this way. I first noticed it on a Motley Crue album! It must have been the ink, the plastic... something in the factory where they were made... but all clear tapes from the 80's smelled that way to me.

Glad I'm not the only one who smells their records!

KISS albums on vinyl also have a distinct smell. And I swear the re-issued CD's have it as well. Were they printed in the same factory? With the same inks? I don't know what causes it.

But I dig it.

I was always a diehard vinyl fan, so I never bought tapes.

However...I did think that the clear/vinyl sleeves for the Lovesexy-era singles (45's) were AWESOME.

Remember Madonna's Like a Prayer came out with a scent purposely
placed inside the vinyl....some sort of insense. I can still smell it to
this day. Smelled like a bunch of gypsies...evillol
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
