NEWPOWER SOUL IS NOT A PRINCE ALBUM.

prince did not put his name on this album because he did not consider this a prince album in the same way exodus is not a prince album. thank you.

And yet he stuck his picture all over the place! On the other NPG albums, his identity is more concealed, being called Tora Tora on Exodus and just having a cartoon of him in the mask. If he didn't want to be associated so much with this album, he could have tried a bit harder, it would probably have been better to leave his face off the front cover and not go off doing a concert tour singing songs from the album!

Yeah, but it's funny that he's on the cover with that silly symbol tattoo highlighted and sings every song. He's even featured in the video for "The One". He's even playing "The One" on this tour! A lot of the songs sound like "Emancipation" rejects or from the 'childrens' album. At least one song sounds like "She Gave Her Angels". The only REAL NPG album is "Exodus". "Goldnigga" was more of a Game Boyz album.

What an ignorant statement....If you have followed Princes career, you know
that he's written all of the songs on NewPowerSoul. He's doing the lead
vocals on all songs.
NEWPOWERSOUL IS A PRINCE ALBUM...AND A VERY FUNKY ONE AT THAT!
ONE OF MY TOP 10 FAVORITES OF ALL TIME!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

just cause the lyrics are npg so
why was princes involved inalot of press interviews etc.. if it wasnt his album did he promote the exodus album i dont recall that he did i remember the one with mel b where he said with this album {new power soul} we are getting closer to the truth
isnt it just like the graffiti bridge album in that its a prince album but with alot of collaboration
when i saw the one video here it said prince the one
if it was a group album or whaever then its strange that they dont all appear on the front cover prince is the dominant thing on the cover he takes up half the front cover
hes on lead vocals on everysong this the main evidence of it being a prince album where in the whole history of popular music has there been a artist singing lead on every song and that album not being credited as his album

backboab arent those albums sung by other artists but written by prince if hes not singing lead on all the songs on those albums u listed then of course they cant be credited as his albums

Dude, I understand your reluctance to attribute NPS to Prince. But P wrote on all the

songs, sings on all the songs, is on the cover and all over the corny ass booklet. NPS is

an embarrassment to all who appreciate real funk but, alas, this is P’s garbage and aint a

damn thing you can do about it.

It wasnt really an NPG album though either, as it was mainly just him.
It was nothing like NPG Exodus which is much much better.

It's only not a Prince album in the sense that he chose not to call it one. He wrote it , he sung it, etc. It's even listed on his All Music Guide discography, and their review says: "credited to his backing band, New Power Generation, but it's a Prince album in all but name". As any fan knows it was not unprecedented for him to put out an album that doesn't say Prince on the cover.
You better wake up, Stella. This is my town!

The actual press-release from BMG at the time of the album's release, referred to "The Artist and the N.P.G.". I'll track it down.

Its more of a "Prince" album than Graffiti Bridge is. In fact, its a better album that Graffiti Bridge.

The difference being that Prince didn't sing the lead vocals on the albums you listed, but he did sing lead vocals on newpower soul, which is different than Exodus or goldnigga, where he didn't do all of the lead vocals.

Who's songs are Come On, the One, Wasted Kisses, Madsex, etc, if they aren't Prince's. Is Prince doing a cover when he does the One on the tour? Newpower Soul is a Prince album, no question about it.

This is taken from Uptown's website...

On January 30th, The Artist's spokesperson Frances Pennington said that "in the summer he'll have a new album of new material out." However, the Love 4 One Another website later revised this statement to say that it was, in fact, a new NPG album featuring The Artist. The website mentioned three song titles, "Mad Sex," "Newpower Soul" (not to be confused with the version on Exodus), and "Push It Up."

http://www.uptown.se/2004...1998.shtml

Here's the blurb which was passed out by BMG Records to the media and record stores at the time of the album's release...

Following up the 4-CD opus that was CRYSTAL BALL is NEW POWER SOUL, yet another collaboration between the Artist Formerly Known As Prince and his recording unit, The New Power Generation. Continuing down the path of musical independence has allowed the Artist to mix and match musical cues. Hence, within the measures of "Mad Sex," we find minor key brass arrangements tangoing with hip-hop scratching and call-and-response chanting. His horn charts are also used to great effect on songs such as the percolating "(Eye Like) Funky Music" and the chugging funk of "When U Love Somebody," a track that finds our hero's falsetto in fine form.

As is the case with much of the Artist's career, his broad creative strokes make it easy to envision his compositions fitting perfectly into other artists' repertoires. "Shoo-Bed-Ooh" could be a long-lost TLC track while Salt 'N Pepa could have a ball kicking it on "Push It Up!" One of the most interesting compositions is "Come On," a sexual paean to an older woman that finds the Glyph collaborating with a barely audible Chaka Khan over a bed of swirling synths, bottleneck acoustic guitar and a stripped-down trip-hop beat.

You can still reference this on the internet, here:

Maybe, if anything, it should have been billed as a prince & The New Power Generation album.

It is definitely a Prince album!!!
