Although I dig checkin' other peoples' musical comparisons, sometimes I don't hear what they do even though I have a musical ear, and I am a musician.

There have been many comparisons with tracks on Musicology on the org, and I generally don't agree with them.

It's funny, with a diverse musician like Prince, folks want 2 connect 2 the past. U can take nearly any artist (and their songs), and make connections 2 their previous work 'cause every artist has their own style (or should).

It's funny because Prince's work is so extensive AND diverse.

MUCH respect 2 Meloh9 4 listening, and 4 diggin' Sly and the Fam.

It's just that you make it seem like the whole analogy was stupid or something. I like tracing back influences and discussing them. We all know Prince is a Sly fanatic. The whole Musicology album seems to be a tribute to the masters, and a getting back to the basics kind of album.

But you know to my ears Cinemon Girl has a U2 kind of vibe but nobody got back to me on that.... the blood red sky lyric really does it. The tone he sings in. Very 80's Im not hearing Dolphin in that one. That's just me.

I get the U2 vibe from that song as well, but only from the first few intro seconds, where the drums and bass start...definitely reminds me one one of there songs in particular...maybe Sunday Bloody Sunday or Without You (don't have my U2 at hand and I havent listened to them for ages). And when he mentions Blood Red Sky, the U2 album springs to mind, but that's where the similarity stops. Maybe he did it on purpose.

Alot of people on the org don't like it but it's very radio friendly - as are most of the track (hence not ground breaking rather easy listening with a hint of MPLS! Musically it's not on a par with TRC but it is for the masses and with the RnR Hall of Fame, Grammies, Purple Rain 20th anniversary he just wants to remind people he is still around - but he has grown up.

On the song Animal Kingdom and a touch on Welcome 2 the Dawn, there are these guitar and vocal effects that I had never heard before. But just like any sound on a Prince record I thought were completely original to him, I heard a VERY similar sound that he more than likely stole it from. If any of yall know what I'm talkin' about, some feedback would be cool. I heard similar sounds to the ones I was talking about on a Sly Record. The name of the record is Stand and the name of the song I'm talking about is Sex Machine. That record and Animal Kingdom are the only time I've ever heard those guitar effects. It's always wonderful finding out where Prince stole something from.

Yer def right about On The Couch and Que Sera...and it makes sense, too!! I've loved Que Sera Sera ever since I first heard it.....and the same goes for On The Couch.

Doris Day song or not, Sly and The Fam's rendition of that is SO GODDAMN SLINKY I WANNA DIE.

I dont get why people are not feeling this album. Sometimes a stripped down sound is better than over production. When Doves Cry is not over produced at all, and Little Red Corvette is radio friendly and it's considered to be a classic. A million days was cut in the same style of that song. This record reminds me that music is supposed to be fun. It's traditional Prince sounding like Prince in many ways. I cant stop playing if was the man in ur life.
