I think it is a great album. NEWS is a reason why I am into Prince for 20 years now. He's always trying to grow. Musically wise I think NEWS is much better than Musicollogy.

Peace

Best "head"phone album of 2003! Without a doubt.

Extreme appreciators should check out the N*E*W*S clock at NPGMC retail. That's what time it is...

U know, some people like radio-type pop-songs, & just don't like what they don't know. These people say NEWS is shit & Musicology is great.

Some other people just like MUSIC, & don't care if music is a song or a sound xperimentation. These people like NEWS.

Just don't worry 'bout those who don't love music... music'll win... in the end

I love N.E.W.S. with a passion. Although I have to say, I find the inlay statement, 'New directions in music' somewhat hollow and arrogant considering there is plenty of other artists creating music like N.E.W.S yet don't enjoy the same recognition as Prince. That being said, I think the band sound beautifully in tune with each other on N.E.W.S and showcase their great strengths as musicians. Rhonda's bass playing sounds great but then so does John Blackwell's drumming and Renato on keys, Eric Leeds as ever the reliable saxophonist and of cause, Prince.

As for the songs themselves, I find them beguiling, stirring my emotions-4.58 to 7.58 in East, the intros of North and West, the breakdown of South...all great moments on N.E.W.S amongst others. I appreciate the fact that Prince attempts to challenge the listener with something (at least to his mind perhaps) something a little different to what you expect from him and the NPG.

As such, I find N.E.W.S a much more fascinating and satisfying listening experience than to that of Musicology. This is in that to some degree with Musicology, I get the feeling as I've seen with other Orgers and reviews that you've heard it all before, only better.

I've seen peeps suggest that N.E.W.S is boring and complain 'why no vocals!'. Granted, I expect Prince enthusiasts were yearning for an album with vocals and more akin to what we expect from Prince i.e. pop, funk, soul, rock, ballads, particularly after Xpectation but then, are vocals and pop songs a neccesity to making a great album? No, of cause not.

I can see why N.E.W.S was recieved with mixed feeling but for me, it's a deeply refreshing and satisfying album.

Yes, I think it's perfect for when u are tired and need to relax. NEWS is just my thing sometimes too!

I've never heard it in an elevator before but I think it would be quite cool to hear it. Maybe in a hotel or something, I can imagine thehy might play NEWS and it would sound very interesting.

I liked it upon release. But like someone else said and I can't remember who... hearing this music play before the concert to build anticipation made it that much better.

It's enjoyable enough, but it's nothing I ever necessarily feel the need to listen to.

In some part it's just boring and uneventful.
