'CALL MY NAME ' is without question the best song on Musicology.

'CALL MY NAME' IS THE BEST SONG ON MUSICOLOGY. PERIOD. And this is coming from a guy who was always much more into P's rock/hard edged funk stuff than his slow jams. The song is perfect in every way. It would easily fit in nicely on any of Prince's classic 80's albums including SOTT. I was not very happy when P released 'Betcha By Golly WOW' as the first single for Emancipation b/c I don't think you kick off an album with a slow jam. BUT this song should have been the first single and SHOULD DEFINITLY BE THE SECOND.

I like it a little more now but I still think on the coach is the
better song when it comes to slow jams on the album

I'm kind of in "A Million Days" mode right now, but I'm sure I'll warm up to each song individually - I'm loving 'em all right now.

on the couch is another good one . love the harmonizing he does with the vocals. for some reason , the way his voice sounds on that song reminds me of Delerious.

I'm rather nonplussed about it. Not that it's a bad song but he's done so many like it by now... So, I'm just not feeling it. There's certainly several songs on the disc that I enjoy much better.

A Million Days would be a terrific single

Call My Name is great like most tracks

A Million Days exactly would touch people and is catchy

Betch BY Golly was a terrible choice
Somebody's Somebody should have been the first single
Not even close to the best tracks , but a great Single choice
I think things would have been different for that Album as far as a commercial success

Things are going pretty good now, and as he say's
If you take the past away the Structure falls

I am so excited about the MUSIC, The Download potential for him and us is incredible.

I saw the simulcast, and I am taking my son (10) to see him in Dallas on Friday-AWESOME

I think the track is great. In the NPGMC chat room, PP7 said that the backing tracks are by Stokley of Mint Condition and Kip Blackshire. That surprised me since it sounds like all Prince.

Great song!

Kip Blackshire? He was around during the Rave DVD performance time then not much after that... so that song must be a few years old!

Not exactly true. Kip did backing vocals on the "Peace" and "High" sessions (most of which were released on the first year of NPGMC). Kip is still around.

Not to bash you (so please don't take it that way), but I completely disagree. Its a decent song, but its not very original at all. He's done this type of song soooo many times now that its kinda getting old (Adore, Insatiable, Scandalous, etc, etc). Personally, I think "On The Couch" is a much better slow jam, and it doesn't ape what he's done before.

I think this would only work as a single released to R&B radio, and even then I have my doubts. It just doesn't stand out from the crowd. Just my opinion.

Releasing that song as a single is the quickest way to kill this album. I've been playing this album for a couple days now and a lot of non-prince fans i've let listen dig it. But to a man (or woman) every one of them hates ICPC. I'm not fan of that song either and think it's one of the few weak tracks (along with CG and LOTP) on the album. It's more of Prince trying to sound "in" along the same lines of Hot With You. We all know how well that turned out. The singles need to be the songs where prince is just being Prince and not trying to sound like Missy or Timberland. I hope Sony isn't dumb enough to try and release this as a single. I don't think they are or will.

I think the hook is GREAT but radio would not be friendly to this cut. Roll w/ Call My Name on Urban radio - it's a winner nod

The more I listen, the more Call My Name stands out as the album's instant, stone-cold classic. I'm telling you, years from now, corny ass fools are going to getting down on their knees "I just can't stop writing songs about you." It is a GREAT love song, with just that perfect touch of Prince obsession/self-indulgence. I happen to think R&B radio's gonna go nuts for it (and it will be a single at some point, maybe 3rd?)
