Prince on Page Six NY Post

IS PRINCE LOSING FAITH IN SEX?

PRINCE refused to sing some of his sexy classics at Monday night's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame gala at the Waldorf Astoria because of his deepening religious faith.
"The producers of the event wanted Prince to sing 'Cream' and 'Sexy Motherf- - - -r.' But because he is now such a devout Jehovah's Witness, he refused," said one music industry insider.

A rep for Prince, who converted to the religion several years ago, declined comment, but a pal of the superstar said: "Prince feels he has closed that overtly sexual chapter in his life."

Prince - who was inducted into the hall along with Z.Z. Top, Traffic, Bob Seger, Jackson Browne and the Dells - did perform "Lets Go Crazy," "Sign of the Times" and "Kiss" before such stars as Alicia Keys, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bruce Springsteen, Yoko Ono, Dave Matthews, Kid Rock, John Mellencamp and George Clinton.

Then, Prince told the crowd: "I embarked on a journey more fascinating than I could ever imagine, but a word to the wise to the young artists without spiritual guidance. Too much freedom can lead to spiritual decline."

While some in the audience were disappointed by Prince's song selection, one insider noted, "It's what's going on in the music industry right now.

"Everyone in the crowd was talking about MTV and the new conservatism over there," explained our source.

"They were burned so badly by Janet Jackson's Nipplegate at the Super Bowl that they have gone overboard. Everyone was in shock about what MTV did to Fountains of Wayne's new video."

The rock band recently submitted a video for a new song, "Mexican Wine," which featured a 10-year-old girl introducing the group on the video.

"MTV declined to play the video because the 10-year-old girl was saying the word 'wine,' " our source laughed.

A rep for MTV said: "We did ask Fountains of Wayne to make edits to their [original] video and now it's in rotation." The new video does not feature the little girl.

Even Britney Spears is editing herself in hopes to get airtime on the music video channel. Spears, whose next video is directed by David LaChappelle - known for his raunchy and racy photography - has cut out a scene which featured her suicide.
"If a man is considered guilty for what goes on in his mind, than give me the electric chair for all my future crimes"

He grew up, and he realized that sex ain't eveything in life, that there are more important things 2 think of, IMHO. That doesn't mean that NOW he needs Viagra LOL

i wonder if he didn't consider himself something of a sex addict in the past... because the words "spiritual decline" seem to me like they could refer to any kind of excess, drugs or whatever...

There's other ways to be sexy, other than singing about it. Rather they relaize it or not, Prince is still as sexy as ever. But it's all about persona, Prince doesn't have to say anything sexual, and still be considered one of the sexiest men alive. I find Prince to be more sensual now than sexual. Where as earlier in his career, he was more sexual and sensual came second.

while page 6 isn't exactly known for truth in journalism, do they really expect us 2 believe that anyone was disappointed by P.'s song selection, or that they REALLY wanted 2 hear him do sexy mf at that event? Or, 4 that matter, that any music insider would liken anything P. does 2 "what's going on in music right now," unless they were literally saying that P. IS what's going on, which may be closer 2 the truth.

Prince is SEX pure and Simple. He doesn't NEED to be OVERTLY SEXUAL in his Lyrics to be SEXy or Hot . He just is. I think he was Amazing at the aftershow and I wasn't disappointed as a long time fan. He doesn't need Vulagarity to be Cool. Although I miss some songs that he used to sing well Prince has such a Large Catalog of songs so really those are just Drops in the Bucket. He doesn't Need to be LASCHivious or Sleezy to get Attention in the Industry. Prince has Talent and that Talent Overrides everything he does. To me there is no other as such a Genius Master Musician. I have always been Excited by his New Music and what he has Created. Never Ever a Let-down. I think Prince judges himself harsher Musically then his Fans who Love him.He will Always be our Hero no matter what age. We have grown up weened on his Music. Truthully he will Always have his Core Fans. I do Respect his wishes for Conversion, however as everyone knows I will Never hide the fact that I Long for him. He is Married and I respect his choice and his Happiness. But ,I will Never Lie about my Feelings for him. Ultimately I love him as my Musical Mentor and Teacher in all Things being that he has Inspired me Greatly. Prince is Brilliant. His Star burns Bright. He's one of a kind and Thank God cause that makes him UNIQUE. He's very Cool. Once again his Fans will always Say....WE LOVE You PRINCE!! biggrin

I'm with bzzzzz on this one. He played 3 of his signature tracks, and quite frankly, the only tracks that 70% of the music audience likely knows. 'Sexy MF" and "Cream," while they were hits, are not Prince's signature tracks.

Prince could play for 3 hours without doing a single "dirty" song. If anyone wants to hear those tracks, they have the records and the videotapes.

Since when has Cream been a sexually explicit song? It's about being at the top of your game -- being the best and being confident in that. People who never listened to the lyrics see a Prince song titled "Cream" and their own dirty little minds make some sort of sexual connotation.

All Prince has said is that he won't cuss on stage anymore. Sexy MF would be a bad choice for a performance intended for later broadcast (VH1) even if Prince was perfectly willing to use the language in the song, but I'm willing to believe that it was never a request be the event organizers in the first place.
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.
