For real? I only have the first W&L album from like `87. They're really that good?

Their first album was a bit Prince like, even Prince like production.
Fruit At The Bottom is great album IMO
Eroica is a bit on the boring side and the Girl Bros album is really impressive, the production alone makes Princes way over-produced albums kinda plastic.

-----
That is your opinion and the opinion of the other two people who purchased Girl Bros. Prnce lost a lot of fans with the wackiness of ATWIAD and Parade.

Wackiness??? Laura you must be a P "FAN"(along with the many other fake-ass "FANS" in this org), cause a "FAM"(look it up sista) would NEVER call ATWINAD or PARADE such. The music is different than anything else P has ever done, BUT.....it is a reflection on his musically advanced mind. The music there is fresh and vibrant, with a new twist on ANYTHING that was done in that time. Now, many have imitated that sound to this day....ala, all the glossed over pop shit you hear on radio today.

I would hope that you are about 20-24 years old, and VERY unknowledgable in your musical digest. Your narrow mindedness only further champions the reason why we only hear NSYNC and Backstreet Boys on the radio these days. OUT!!

I thought the Prince and Wendy duo was really sweet. More please! I hope the Purple One hooks up with her and Lisa again. Lately his funk has been half-assed! I can see them bringing their old Sly and the Family Stone records around to his house and jamming.... wink

BACK IN PURPLE

Out of the blue, the Purple One called Wendy Melvoin, his old nemesis in Prince and the Revolution, and invited her to come to a rehearsal in L.A. for a benefit, which turned out to be TV's "The Tavis Smiley Show." After years of estrangement, she hung out with Prince and his current band for two hours, and practiced "Reflection," a new tune. "The next day, it was just him and me [on TV], and he was gorgeous," Wendy told I.W. "He was the guy I knew when I first met him."

nod I am glad they performed...Hmmm...now if he'd only get back w/the Revolution....

Thus my less than glowing opinion of Wendy - she wouldnt exist if it were not for Prince.

Ironically the last Wendy & Lisa album (under Girl Bros. psuedonym) is better than anything Prince has released in the last 10 years.

Lets hope he can at least match their effort with the new album.

sad sad mad mad

While i agree totally with you NPGman on your views on ATWIAD and Parade, this 'Fam' nonsense doesn't wash with me, it's just a silly Prince term, and too many 'fans' blindly went along with it when he first started uttering it in '98. I mean what were all you 'fams' prior to 1998? Fake-ass fans?

No need to rag on folks who remain quite normal and would prefer to call themselves 'fans'.

eek Lost a lot of fans with Parade?!? isn't that the one with Kiss? Anotherloverholenyohead? Girls and Boys??

...maybe I have the wrong version! lol

Oh and another take on the use of 'nemesis'.. to my understanding it doesn't have to be a 'bad' reference. just that it's sort of an equal force in opposition...like yang/yin in a way..that can't be beaten. a true nemesis to Prince would be this goddess he couldn't dominate and who created enough tension to drive him to be better smile I think it fits

If you are talking about sales and mass appeal then ATWIAD and Parade did lose a lot of fans. Also, isn't it by chance possible that in their time tutoring Prince on the world of music outside of funk and R&B Wendy and Lisa picked up something from Prince as well? It would explain why their albums would sound similar for a while following the breakup. Just a thought.

Mark...I hear ya!!!! I wasnt trying to emphasize the FAM/FAN point to her at all!!! My main point being is that....."If you are a true P FAM/FAN, then why would you even take the time to "hate" on anything that he CHOOSES to offer?? The ONLY choice you have as a FAM/FAN is that of: Listening or NOT listening. If he is not hitting or choosing the vibe that you "Get Off" to.....then dont but his CD's or dont go to his shows!!! But, to come on here and take the position of a common critic....then thats just an ignorant view that is slanted to begin with." Just sit back and enjoy what you choose to like and roll with tha FUNK!!! Most people here are so consumed with trying to know what P is thinking, should do, his choices.....HE'S his own person, that is TRYING to share his gift with all. If he could satisfy ALL, then I'm sure he would. But, this is REAL LIFE and all cannot/and will not be happy.....so with that said....JUST ROLL WITH THA FUNK, and let him do what he do!!!!

Peace....

I would just like to say this offended me because I am 20 but I am very musically knowledgable - i started liking music when I was 3 - and started getting into the beatles when I was 8 so, by the time I was 12 I had all their albums. I started liking Prince and Madonna when I 5ish for prince and 3 for Madonna - so not all of us youngins are inept. Thanks!
