Has being a Purple head 4 so long made you a musical snob?

I dont know about you but if there's one thing i have learned from all these years of being a Prince head its how to truly listen to the music , lyrics, tone , song structures etc. He's opened my eyes to many differing stlyes . Now when i listen to music it drives me mad, like i was listening to the God awful duet with Blue and E.John and couldn't believe how lazy and unimaginitive the drum fills were!. Whatever you may feel about the quality of his back catalogue i am sure most us agree that he has made us so aware, from a young age, of the difference of whats good and bad in music. Agree?.

I guess in a way it has made me a snob. I can't stand most of the shit that is out there today. I like real music, buy real musicians, not ass shaking skanks that can't even sing. I respect people that write, sing, play instruments and don't try to get by on their looks, tits or ass! I also hate how so many people do nothing but show off their bling, bling and act as though they're someone special cause they have a huge, ugly gold chain around their neck or a big-assed babe on their arm. That kind of shit doesn't impress me at all.

Hmm. I think the relative lack of good music, more than Prince's music, has made me a musical snob. I just can't believe the crap that most people listen to, by that I mean radio. It would be nice if people were a bit more discerning in their taste, but what can a poor boy do?

I don't know. With me, it's how the music/lyrics/message makes you feel. Any type of music can make you feel good. That is what matters. Even off-key singers and players can add a certain improvement to one's mood.

No, not a real fan of either to be honest. I love Morris in the movies and I do enjoy hearing the odd song or two, but I'm not a huge fan otherwise.

Good Question!

I don't think Prince's music allows itself to be simply enjoyed, like a Kyle Monogue, or Bananarama, disc, you know?

Prince music I have to dissect and consider. "Newpower Soul" is proof Prince can't get away with making a "just for fun" breezy album. We'll tear it to shreds!

I don't think Prince makes us Musical Snobs: I think People who WANT to be challenged musically gravitate to Prince, and that is why he's a cult artist. Many people just want simple entertainment. I think Prince music attracts more intelligent, searching people. I prefer to listen to, analyse, and experience "The Gold Experience" and decide it's crap, than mindlessly enjoy and experience "Justified"!

NO. I still enjoy less challenging music whenever it makes it's way through the pre programmed shit they put on the radio. Love 3 chord rock, live. I think helps me not get totally pissed Prince when he puts out crap.

I think being a Prince fan contirbuted, but my tastes vary so much, I can't really say that's why. However, I'm slowly working through my musical snobishness. I recently picked up an album that when I admitted to it to a friend of mine he literally tackled me and wanted to know what the hell was wrong with me. Another friend said I had completely changed my entire persona in one small purchase. So I'm not nearly the snob I used to be.
