I think this is excellent.
Also, I really liked the version of Purple Rain

yeah...I think that that "interlude" with maceo parker on sax and the guy with the red jacket ruins the per4mance...anyway gggrrreeeaaat guitar work!!

p.s.still don't know but...is habibi the name of the symbol guitar or the name of the blue cloud guitar?

I thought it was a sub-par version of an AMAZING song. I know Prince can do better than that.

Habibi's the purple symbol guitar, unless BorisFishpaw tells me otherwise! wink

maybe I'm wrong but I can hear Prince saying "unless I have Habibi" during the per4mance of purple house and he starts playing guitar...which is the blue cloud one.
that's where my doubts come from...but maybe I'm wrong...

...and one of the rare Symbol guitars with a tremolo bar.

I'd like to hear him record a version stripped of the usual effects he likes to add when playing this track. Keep it more faithful to the sound of Hendrix by limiting himself to a more natural sound but just adding wah wah and overdrive when called for.

You're talking about on the Rave DVD, right? Right after he sings, "Oh, somethin' tell me my Puerto Rican beauty don't live here no more..." he says "but thass all right, cuz I still got Habibi," and proceeds to wail on the blue cloud which up until recently I thought was theblueangel.

GREAT line, I LOVE that. But the purple symbol is Habibi. Prince likes to mix up his guitars just like he does his women. wink

I don't mind the Maceo part. Matter of fact, this is a great song to get non-Prince fans into with Maceo and it being a Hendrix cover. I've found Non-Prince fans generally
appreciate the peer group that Prince associates himself with...whether it be people on the record or who he's covering.

Actually, he says "...but that alright, I still got Habibi... well, maybe not, I take this one instead."
