TheV, your taste sucks, rainbow children is probably one of the shittiest albums of the P.(?), so get off the -"We're on the internet just like Prince, so he might read this, so I better start licking ass and praise him for everything he does in the hopes he might contact me for some good booty kissing time"- bandwagon...

In all seriousness...
Be glad not everyone has the same taste otherwise we'd all be listening to shit like J. Lo, Justin Timberlake, Pink, or Eminem, 50 Cent or whatever is hip today, and we'd be even more fucked up as human beings than we already are...

I can't stand half the newbie artists out now. They are such mindless sheep. And yes, J. Lo stab is complete shit!!! If she can be famous than so can anybody else. Talentless tramp. barf What the hell has happened to music. If you can actually sing nowadays, your album probably wouldn't sell; unless you walked around with you boobs hanging out of your censored top. Pathetic. disbelief

There is some great music on there but overall it's still shit.

Why do you think it's shit?

The lyrics (bordering on racist, sexist and homophobic) and that awful narration. The songs are pretty tuneless and dull. And I don't like the pseudo jazz elements either.

That's why. wink

Yeah, I hate jazz, myself...

And this fool calls me an idiot. Anyone who hates jazz is going to have a very hard time with Prince beyond his poppy material. U sir have revealed yourself. I myself am not a great fan of certain genres of music but would never say i hate any particular type of music. "Hate" is the sign of a closed mind. Many here seem to really get defensive when questioned about their motivations for being so connected to an Artist that they have no problem denegrating any chance they get. Is it a love/hate situation? They loved Prince so much back in the day that now since they can't still get into his music that love turns into rage/hate toward the object of their former affection. Its really quite twisted. I know i'm not the only one who see's that.

No sir, you are not. horns

Darling,I was about to defend you, because I too prefer P's 80's music to his 90's music, but when you say I hate jazz,I can't defend THAT.
With swing, bebop, hard bop, fusion, free jazz and so much more to choose from, how can you not find something you like?

The best way I can describe it is I am into more serious, dark-sounding, music. To ME, jazz is too light and fluffy (I hate horns, especially the over-usage of them). I'm trying to dig TRC and the other CD's I mentioned in an effort to see if I was really being closed-minded or that it just sucked ass. Maybe it was self-centered thinking to despise the NPG. I don't really know. Actually, what prompted all this (even my return to the org) was my watching the Purple Rain DVD in stereo surround sound. The music rocked in a way I hadn't heard since seeing it at the movies. It brought back a flood of memories and it got me wondering:

What changed?

Prince or ME???

That's why I wanted to get a cheap copy of Emancipation and try it again as that was the one I really skimmed through, barely playing any song fully. Wierd, since it was the most expensive (36$) one I bought.

Sweetie, don't feel bad. Prince music has always been my favorite music and I have always wanted to love everything Prince has ever done. I listen to a lot of genres of music from R&B to heavy metal but I don't like jazz. There is nothing wrong with me because of it. It's the same as someone on here not liking country or classical music. Would I think less of them for it? No. I have also gone back several times to give my shelved Prince albums another go on the suggestions of folks on the Org and I still don't like some of the albums.

Well that's just it. I felt, back in the 80's, like alot of you feel today about his music. I felt he connected with me somehow, because I literally ran out and bought everything I could lay my hands on when it came out. Hell, we even dressed somewhat like him. For me, trying to like his new stuff is kind of like returning home after being abroad for 10+ years. As for owning TRC, my buddy gave it to me because he hated it.

I popped it in, played a couple of minutes of it, and stuck it on the shelf. Now, I'm going to really see if it sucks or not. Same with Emancipation. That's the one CD that I really blasted, though not really listening to it much. The symbol CD, I think, really sent me in a "screw Prince" attitude. I didn't like that one at all. Sexy MF was so horrible, I gave the video single away right after I bought it.

Another thing, I think, that bugged me is the NPG doing alot of singing on tracks. I had the attitude of "I bought a PRINCE CD, not these other mf's!"

You are extremely immature. Ever since you've popped your dome up from wherever you came from, the minute someone expresses a contrary opinion to yours you can't handle it and start off with the ignorant name calling. I've noticed this since your grand entrance here. You should hang out with mrde, nevermind. I didn't realize your self-esteem was so low, and don't really care. But my suggestion to you is to either GROW A SET, or find a playground that won't shoot holes into your pseudo self aggrandizing by the very nature of a counterpoint.

McSherlock86, may I suggest that if you want to broadly review all of Prince albums that you
a) don't forget several of them
b) don't sweep several away with the lazy 'Haven't heard it and unless I get a free copy, I probably won't.'

Also, that when you defend your indefensibly lacking review that you do so with fewer colourful and offensive words. Doing otherwise detracts from your already hopeless stance.

Try that and you might get a warmer reception in your threads.

Of course who am I to make these suggestions. And you don't care, but if that was the case you wouldn't have re-read this forum after your initial post.

& more noise 4 anyone dissin' TRC:

it is his most inspiring work he has ever done.

i'm not religious... (tho maybe P is my god & the prince is my cross, who knows!) songs like Everlasting Now & Last December take me higher.
show me i can b all i can be.
make me dance, make me sing, give me a smile that lasts 4 an hour after the playing of those songs.

Sensual Everafter: NUFF SED!

& u hear that melody on She Loves Me 4 Me??

people who cant appreciate it r 2 afraid 2.
is it that u dont want ur buddies 2 hear it & say: "u some jesus lover now man?"
...
or perhaps its hard 2 accept the fact his best work has come at a time when he isnt dominating Billboard & the grammys?

take time 2 appreciate it.
after a year or two,TheTruth & TRC have jumped out at me & inspired me.

i can honestly say that TRC is responsible 4 helping me in knowing what REAL music is all about.

give it time...& just let it kick!
