doesn't matter how big or small of a fan he is. he has much of a right to be here and give his two cents as you do. as for your overtly snobbish commentary, it was unnecessary. you could have worded it differently.

Yes this is America and everybody has rights. Agreed. I was just questioning why visit a site and comment on someone that u haven't liked for years and years. In all honesty there probably should be a site/forum for all the Prince fans who are fans of a 25yr old prince and not the present human being. Instead we get a contingent of people who are obsessed with the past and unable to appreciate the present. Prince keeps moving forward whether people like it or not.
There should also be a site/forum for people who love everything Prince does.

right on, stymie! this wuz just what i wuz gonna say--i would much rather have one forum full of prince fans/friends/freex/fams/whoever from all walks of life, fan levels, old-skoolers, new-skoolers, than havin several small forums divvied up into shit like, "old-skoolers over here...newbies over there...those who love his new shit go here", bla bla bla.

c'mon now, tricky...disbelief
Absolutely. Wouldn't something like that be easy to moderate? Any negativity could be snipped, just like at home(NPGMC). mr.green

oh gawd...it'd actually be harder to moderate, i bet! all that clickin of the mouse, deletin all them threads that would be deemed 'offensive' or not within the main objective of the forums (oh lawd)...i must admit, i feel for the pee-pees over at the 'gmc. they must have hellafied cases of carpal tunnel syndrome by now.

I like a few Elvis songs but that doesn't make me an Elvis fan. I'm not about to get on a Elvis fan site and tell everyone how much i love "jailhouse rock" but everything else sucks. U don't like Prince u like some Prince songs, big difference. Find a new hobby besides annoying people who actually knows something about Prince and his work.

You really do have interesting tastes...

I'll pick one song from each album.

For You - My Love Is Forever
Prince - Sexy Dancer
Dirty Mind - Partyup
Controversy - Do Me, Baby
1999 - Lady Cab Driver
Purple Rain - When Doves Cry
Around The World In A Day - Pop Life
Parade - Anotherloverholenyohead
Sign O' The Times - If I Was Your Girlfriend
untitled - Rockhard In A Funky Place
Lovesexy - Anna Stesia
Batman - Scandalous
Graffiti Bridge - Joy In Repetition
Diamonds & Pearls - Walk, Don't Walk
prince - Sweet Baby
The Hits / The B-Sides - Irresistible Bitch
1-800-New Funk - Love Sign
Come - Space
The Vault - She Spoke 2 Me
Girl 6 - Pink Cashmere
The Gold Experience - P. Control
Chaos And Disorder - Had U
Emancipation - The Love We Make
Crystal Ball - She Gave Her Angels
The Truth - Dionne
Newpower Soul - Come On

Can't comment on any album I haven't listed, as they only exist on my hard-drive as mp3s... In all cases, I have yet to purchase the full albums after what I've heard... I would purchase a legitimate copy of One Nite Alone but as NPG Online doesn't take PayPal, I'm unable to. My credit history is shot, I don't want another credit card and no bank in the U.K. administers "Pre-Paid" Visa or Mastercards.

why are so many being so intolerant of what tricky99 has to say?! you go tricky.
and seriously, you gotta wonder why people waste their time. s/he'll only listen if s/he gets free copies!
wow. sounds kinda bitter actually. why?, i wonder.

well, s/he can always listen to the radio if s/he wants hits.

some people still wait to passively consume some more prince jams. more more more!

maybe they like how prince made em shake they booty back in the day. is that all it was?

how beautiful does the words and music have to be, before people quit this passive consumption of music, of art, time, etc...?

farewell,
and may we all dare a beautiful life!

McWatson,

My silly comment aside, how can you expect to like any of Prince's post 80s work if you never even gave it a chance. You list one or none on most of his albums after Lovesexy, yet you admit to just be skipping through the songs once through and then getting rid of your copies. Open your mind, give songs a few listens, you might find that your initial impression is not the same as what you think after giving something a try.

Prince's music involves effort on the listener's part- in fact, most great music involves effort and time.

For all those that keep harping on about Prince's new stuff being crap:

Listen to Xpectation, TRC, ONA, NEWS a few more times and tell me you don't hear the Prince genius in there.

It's in there. Same genius that wrote the older stuff.

If you heard the genius in the older stuff + it meant that much to you (which it must have done - why else would you still be here posting on this board?!) - can you not find the time to invest in the newer stuff?

He's still kicking arse. Yes - it's not 3 minute pop songs anymore - so it may take more time to appreciate.

But it *is* all good.

Well the last time I checked, I could say, do, listen to, or watch any damn thing I pleased. I sure as hell need no validation from someone like you. I said before I USED to be a hardcore Prince fan. You have alot of nerve to sit there and tell me what I know/don't know based on a couple of posts. So what if I like the old Prince better than the new one? I wasn't aware that it was a crime. This isn't the "Only people who worship Prince's toilet bowl and everything that falls in it" message forum.

None of u are really responding to the question i'm posing. what does being a fan of particular Artist mean. There are millions who said they were fans during purple rain, but were they really fans?

Yeah, stupid, it does. I ran out and bought every damn thing Prince put out at that time. I knew when it was coming out and I knew when it would be on the shelf. So, YEAH, I think that made me a fan. Just because my opinion of his latest religion-induced horseshit isn't any good doesn't mean I still don't like the guy for what he was (I don't mean pop star, either). I liked him before he was huge.

So my opinion is different than yours. Deal with it.

well, s/he can always listen to the radio if s/he wants hits.

Because tricky seems to think he/she can lash out in whatever way he/she sees fit without repercussion. In other words, tricky is an idiot.

Bitter? No. Disapointed? Yes.

Why? Buying the symbol CD was the biggest one. I tried really hard to "dig it". Sexy MF was the biggest turd I have ever heard him do.

Diamonds & Pearls was mediocre as it had a couple of good songs. I forgot to add Thunder to my list.

Emancipation was the only one that I skimmed through. I guess by that point, I was numb to the constant barrage of turds being slung from Minneapolis, but I bought it out of old school loyalty.

Was I a fan? You bet your ass, I was. I had my walls covered with everything Prince. I wore Prince-like clothes. I played Prince 24/7 and rarely played anything else. I do not listen to the radio at all and haven't listened to the radio since 1982.

Presume you're referring to TRC.

Have you really listened to TRC? Or were you put off by the voice-overs?

I just can't understand how you can think the music on TRC is 'horseshit'.

Yes. TRC... Fortunately, I got it free. I may try to listen to it again and see if I am being an asshole about it. But from the 1st 2 listens, it didn't do anything for me.

For me, the biggest real burn came with the symbol CD. I bought that one hoping it would be great. Better than D&P, but it was worse. I liked Batman & Lovesexy a good bit, so I don't think I'm this Revolution only fan, although they were like this extended family to me at the time.

The lyrics (bordering on racist, sexist and homophobic) and that awful narration. The songs are pretty tuneless and dull. And I don't like the pseudo jazz elements either.

That's why. wink

You are right. I've been looking for Emancipation on Ebay. But I always get outbid. I want to listen to it again and see if it's his music or my attitude at the time that made me get rid of it. I also have the Vault. Maybe that's where I heard Witness. Don't know, really. I thought it was on CB.
