As he changes musically, so the band changes.

I wish he would have kept the NPG line-up from around 1994-5. Those guys were great. Of course, Mayte wouldn't be around now if he would have...

Aww, come on - Mayte was just a glorified finger-cymbal enthusiast in the band.

Well prince doesn't want people to think that he needs the input from a certain group, like lisa and wendy.

I remember wendy saying that he listened to them all the time and liked their input but got scared because he didn't want to depend on them, so he fired them

I mean i'm sure theres other reasons but thats one.

Oh, so that scene with the band in their dressing room in Purple Rain with Wendy arguing with our hero is not far from the truth, eh?

sigh here we go again, look, here's the real deal:

1. Wendy and Lisa wanted to leave, prince just convinced them to stay for the remainder of the parade tour

2. Musically, they were growing apart. prince wanted to go in a direction they didn't want to. Simple as that.

3. Prince wasn't "scared" of anything (well, maybe susannah, lol). He just wanted to do something on his own that didn't involve them, sorta to "prove" to himself that he still "had it". which looking at SOTT, he did. That's what wendy meant/said.

Wendy & Lisa(AND bobby) were fired because prince wanted to go in a new direction that didn't involve them. And had they not been fired they wouldn't have stayed there for long anyways, remember, they wanted to leave, for the exact same reasons that prince fired them. ALL three of them had become dependant on eachother
and wanted to do their own thing.
Simple as that.

Yes u are right in a way, i think everyone is, i think its a combination of things. The music was changing but i think prince didn't want to depend on them, like i said earlier.

wendy and lisa had said in early interviews that it was because they were changing but they also say stuff like this and still say it today.

WENDY:Prince always wanted money and control, period.
Lisa and I wrote "Purple Rain." We came to rehearsal
with the melody and the idea, and then over the next two
days everyone worked on it and fleshed it out. But
for "Computer Blue" we just contributed a keyboard line.
That's writing? You just never knew what (credit) he would
give you. He just wanted absolute power in every way,
and we were too much for him. That's why he fired us.

I personally like the changes through the years. Each massive revamping of Prince's band seems to bring with it new directions, new sounds. Sure I'm sad to see some band members go, but hey, it's his deal.

Also I hear he's tight with the money. This is not what anyone wants to hear but this is what I heard from a band member. Band members only being paid at one point $500 a week while he was making big bank.

I think the Revolution just held a special place in everyones heart, I know it did for me but hey we know how P operates with changes, he doesn't like things to stay the same for to long, I guess he likes other peoples creative energy around him

Prince is about the music, pure and simple as that.

Being active in music means staying open to new ideas, directions, musicians, people and events (the stuff that happens around you on the planet). The music is greater than the component parts, e.g. the musicians & other practitioners.
Prince's strength is his focus on music and the desire to keep it fresh, even if that seems to be only to himself at times. I so dig the fact that he hasn't allowed weeds to grow between his toes and kept moving.
The up side for the musicians who pass through his bands is that they have had the opportunity to work with a genius and their own musicianship can be enriched. It's when you get into issues like loyalty and royalties that things go weird. There's too much pressure on having a band anyway for a musician, it's an unecessary and mostly damaging pressure.

If you like music, you gotta like change, no?
