Is there a legit extended version of 17 Days?

If so, where do I find it?

Yes...don't you remeber back in the day when Prince would release everything on 12 inch? I can't remember what this was the B side of on the 12 inch but i did have it on vinyl back in like 84 I believe.. I do have a copy I got off peer to peer about year ago but I haven't listened to it in a while.

Yes I remmeber 12 inches and th e only 17 Days 12 inch released was on the back side of the long version..err... 12 inch full WDC version, but the 17 Days was still the 3:30 or some odd seconds version...never any longer version. YOur peer to peer vers is th e same as mine..unofficial.

17 Days was one of the rare songs back then, to not get an extended version. As RD surmised, thank a "DJ" for anything longer than the released 12"/7" song.

The version on the 12" is an edited version of a MUCH longer original.

Basically just starts jamming after the fade out on the 12".

First it breaks down to just the keys and drums like at the part where he's saying (I Called You Yesterday...) and then builds up again.

Trust me, it exists.

Thank you.

Right, no long version. Do some research on the discography.

That long boring mix is weak anyway.

Nope, it's a hack-job.

A very good one until they mess it up by throwing in that bloody over-used P.J guitar part.

The original 12" release of 17 Days does have elements of Private Joy - no post production dj crap. For the life of me I want to say Another Lonely Christmas was the b-side but I could be wrong.

I can verify that there is a version of it, but it remains unreleased. The song starts out with a longer intro, then goes thru most of the same song, but the last part of it has Brenda Bennett talking (mostly about Prince's macho attitude), which ends up sounding sort of like the extended version of Computer Blue.

The released versions have all been the same. It is a shame that he didn't release the extended version in some form.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

When Doves Cry... I had the purple 45 single. I got the thing with private joy in it. I think it was called Bambi's Crystal Ball or somthing like that. It sounds like a DJ or someone did it.

I know. Let's make our own version of it. All you need is Cool Edit Pro.

Yeah, I found 'When Doves Cry' on 12" in a 2nd hand shop in Bradford the other week. I got them to pop it on and both sides were the normal versions - no extending. I didn't buy it.
