United States of Division released today.

Quite apt for the good old US of A. in 2024.

This is like a completely different mix of this song. Like it quite a bit more, if I'm honest. The one that got released always seemed like a demo to me.

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

there seems to be a lot more space in the song now, you can hear the vocals way better
and yet also the individual instruments. good mix nod

I always liked this song but now it's better, for sure.

The topics in the song are still relevant today! Maybe even moreso.

Do we know if this was an authentic mix created or commissioned by Prince? Or is this a Frankenstein mix created by the Estate?

Why is this song released today - for me at least totally out of the blue (did I miss something?)?

I know Musicology was released 20 years ago (gee, really?) this April, is this the reason maybe? Are we expecting a Musicology SDE also out of the blue (hey, if Beyonce and Taylor Swift can drop surprise albums, so should Prince lol)

As expected, the estate didn't even bother to provide us with information about the mix when they posted the "special announcement" earlier.

Great song, just not a big fan of the drumprograming, and the lyric; "everybody stop fighting, everybody make love", plus the tired the chants.

But ithe instrumental part(s) are great.

(New) horns are a plus i think.

We don't and we probably won't know unless it's part of another release with liner notes, etc.

Both are possible. If they remixed this from the multitracks, it was probably very tempting to make those horns louder. Especially if you don't care about reproducing existing mixes correctly.

On the other hand, it's kind of weird to have those horns so low in the 2004 mix. Maybe Prince played with different ideas at the time and this mix was one of the different mixes he worked on.

Prince horns can never be low enough in the mix. Only good horn track is "Crucial", which remains relegated to bootlegs.

To each their own. I've been wanting to hear the "full-horn" mix of "Lovesexy" ever since Eric mentioned it.

I always find it strange how someone can tell another person that their personal opinion is wrong...by now, most adults should know that musical tastes and artistic likes and dislikes are completely subjective...there is no such thing as a wrong opinion in regards to art..it is clearly, "to each their own"

the horn line in cindy c is one of the sexiest things i have ever heard ever. a woman could be saying filthy shit into my ear and that horn line would still be more arousing.

Never ran across this one before. Excellent track, mastered well in iTunes and the animated artwork is pretty good.

Very funky rock track. I need an instrumental!

horn charts on rock hard in a funky place are some of his all time best.

but overall, i think his horn arrangements started getting automated sounding post 88.

I thought this was just a stream only release but just spotted a buy/download option on the Apple iTunes ‘wrecka store’ and Amazon. Also on Qobuz as a HD download ( https://www.qobuz.com/gb-...y4tesim9fa )

And this link is from Sony’s Legacy Recordings about the release.

it's baffling that they haven't prepared more to celebrate 20 years of musicology,
given this write up and sum up of great stuff they could use on a set for it.

it really is very hard to believe, but ultimately, we'll become used to it, I guess. neutral

Well It's a bunch of clowns running the estate so I'm not surprised how they handle things. There will more disappoinments this year for sure.

Saw that about Londell 🤦🏼‍♂️

A Musicology release would be quite nice, wouldn’t need to be a super deluxe, just something like original album, plus live show and extra disc with the virtual B-sides and other stuff (this United States of Division track, Silver Tongue, Magnificent; could put last year’s Life O’The Party release on it, plus the 2003/4 version of F.U.N.K., then a few unknown tracks, extended versions). Maybe there will be something but maybe not.

My 2 pence worth about the estate, I reckon there’s too many cooks at the moment, what with Londell/Spicer vs the siblings left in court, primary wave (who seem to say nowt publicly), then there is the mess with rights between Warners, Sony and whomever else who has a finger in the pie. Not surprising they can’t all agree on a way forward with music releases. I’m still at the stage of waiting and seeing this year, I’d hope there can be something but not sure what. If come autumn there’s still jackshit, I’ll be miffed like most of us.
There may or may not be something coming!
