Exactly.

For all we know, D&P could have been a double or triple album. We'll just have to wait and see.

My prediction; probably a solid disc (say, around an hour) of unheard tracks with another disc or two of either early demos for the D&P songs and then early versions of songs that would appear on other albums from his 90s outpost post-D&P.

There is so much material from this timeframe, I hope this comes to fruition.

Also, Prince wasn't changing music at this time, music was changing Prince. Such an exciting point in his career. I welcome every inch I can hear from the vault. Of course, if I had a choice, I would pick another time, but art is art. I’m always grateful to get anything beyond what has been released. Why would you not want this?

As a 90s kid myself, 1990s Prince is my favourite (same with MJ too, actually).

I just love how they used their angst and disenchantment to directly inform their creativity during this decade. Prince's discography would be lesser without Come.

It was not expensive (for what we had).

By the way I bought the vinyl box, and the prices varied everywhere, it was a question of haveing patience, and bye at the right time. Anyways...

Yes we got a good deal of unreleased trax,

but not 'essential' tracks, like Joris23 said.

It was a serious mistake to not put in the video's made for the project.

They easily could've added that - for me it was a must.

Same for the 1999 SDE - even worse they excluded the video's on the/a DVD.

-

Most of the orgers here and on other Prince boards, and friends I know, didn't buy SOTT SDE because of its too expensive price. But you're here telling it wasn't that expensive. wink Of course they should do a huge effort for the quality or lack of video. And they should remaster in 4K the videos on YouTube like every old acts do now.

-

Compare the ones here moaning about the price, and look at the sold copies.

if it's not shelf size with this place it's price.

the solution is very simple, as i said dylan's team does, release sets at different price points that become more curated as you go cheaper, but for the love of god release something comprehensive and befitting of the material at the top of that range for the people that want it and so that the material can be presented in a way that does his recording history justice.

How can you get bored by listening to Purple Rain deluxe??
That was first vault release

I wasn't.
I talked about the SDE only, like I said, 1999 and SOTT.
PR deluxe was fine for me, for the price at least.

You mentioned you had friends who didn't buy it because of the price. They have to be casual fans of Prince ,because only the hardcore fan base would pay for the deluxe editions and if they found the first vault disc to be boring then they ain't much of a fan to begin with

A few notes

Would have "live 4 love" had worked as a single if it was trimmed down to 4 minutes or less?
Quite a bit of songs fade out on the album, maybe we will get to hear full versions of "diamonds and pearls" and "cream"

i have it on good authority that there are things from this era that 99.9 percent of people here have no clue about and that, at times, those contents have been described as "revelatory"

estate, don't fuck this up. that's a tall order. don't fuck it up, go big or go home.

Casual fans?
One is fan since 20 years, the other two for 30 years !
They always bought what was released, and two of them were into bootleggs.what is an hardcore fan ?
Prince is the passion of their fucking life.

As everyone on this board. Nevertheless, most people here, and most people who are Prince fans, didn't buy the two SDE's.

So I've been listening to the diamonds and pearls album for the past week or so.I listened to him about 6 times so far.
I can't believe I overlooked this album. It has got better with age..even Tony M's rapping sounds good now days.He gets a bad rep among prince fans but he is actually a good rapper.

Now I'm rediscovering the music videos for the album
The Gett off house style video is cool with the Paisley park footage with diamond and pearl being blindfolded and prince driving around.
And oh yeah ....prince in a speedo during Gangsta Glam

The videos are gold. I used to watch the Gett Off and D&P video collections on repeat back in the day. They'll have a plethora of various video footage to choose from for the release

I remember some fans use to believe "Joyful sound" is a song because of the way it is used in the song "Strollin" but experts shot that down and said there wasnt
Gonna be amazed if a song titles Joyful sound is included in diamonds and pearls deluxe

Nonsense yourself :
https://prince.org/msg/7/467094

It s time to grow up.

I even remember, when there were far more orgers than now, in 2017 when PR deluxe was released, there were many here who didn't buy it. And that wasn't a matter of money.
Go to Schkopi, the french board of Prince, there were so many members long time hardcore fans who didn't want to buy SOTT or 1999 SDE.
And that wasn't always a matter of money.

My friends who didn't buy SOTT SDE, that wasn't really a matter of money.
Much like " Too heavy,
I already have these tracks,
Prince would have never allowed that,
my wife doesn't want to listen to Prince anymore so 9 CDd...,
I can only listen to CDs in driving, and my new car has not a CD player, so whats the point in buying 9 CD? "

About 100.000worldwide for each.
Originals sold like 160.000 copies, so there s a large part of hardcore fans who doesn't buy the SDEs.

samples of two versions of Joyful sound were shared last year to some. One from 90/91 and another one from 86/87 or 88

Not too expensive for my purse. I bought another one because my two year old son fucked up with some discs.

W2A looks like a pure thieveey and a shitty album I won't like, but I don't care, I will buy it. Because I want physical releases to keep on coming. I want to keep Prince alive physically. I can afford it.

I am not representing Prince fans worldwide. I just share facts and most fans opinions. If you think every Prince fans want the SDE, then you re wrong. And it s not always a matter of money.

I m a huge MJ fan, when he was alive in the kast years, I bought Every best of sibce there was an obscure unreleased track. I was happy to give him money.

Now that he s dead and don't get the money anymore,I never bought anything after.
Besides the This Is It dvd and the Jackson 5 releases. And that never was a matter of money, but a complete opposition of what the estate of MJ did with his legacy.

for what it's worth, 11 bucks for a whole album/cd of previously unreleased (yes i know it's not all previously unreleased) is more than fair.

cd edition of 1999 was priced fairly, sott sde was way overpriced, w2a deluxe is way overpriced.

i'll pay more money for more music, when they start making decent sets that actually do justice to the era, but i'm sure as hell not paying for a book of essays by dave chappel and college professors
