Let me just say this: Whether Bruno plays him or not is irrelevant. What people get hung up on is how the actor looks. The acting seems to take a back seat. The question shouldn't be whether Bruno looks like him - and I address that because someone is sure to bring it up - but rather, can he act? Can he emote, channel, be methodic or whatever it takes to play Prince in a movie?

The first thing I always hear is "Well, [so-in-so] don't even look like Whitney!" Uh, bitch if it was an Audible book, it still wouldn't matter what they looked like.

So, can Bruno act? Maybe. I don't know. Can Miguel act? Maybe. I don't know. Both could do the musical parts, but can they be convincing enough not to become Prince, but to keep their own personality out of the way that viewers can focus on the story in front of them?

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I really like Bruno, I actually find him quite attractive....but I'm not expecting a lot from this if this is true. I honestly hate these kinds of things. The only musician biopics I've ever seen that I thought were actually good were Coal Miner's Daughter and Walk the Line. I would much rather have a really interesting, in-depth proper documentary on Prince created by like Spike Lee or something. That would be so much better. I love documentaries.

I'm with you on that. I love docs, too. And I've always loved music docs, even back to the MTV Rockumentary days. Whether Spike did it or Questlove (who I think would be better to have a musician's POV directing it), it'd really have to present something that we don't know. New footage, music, interviews that don't retell the same "he was just magical when he walked in the room" or "he smelled like lavender and never ate or slept" bullshit.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I agree. I want to see an Amy documentary but about Prince. I want like a nitty-gritty documentary about his life, things he did, the bad choices he made, the good choices he made, and how those choices effected his life. I want a documentary that shows the height of his fame and also when he was not as popular anymore, how religion impacted his life, how his death was preventable, etc. I want like a true-to-life gritty documentary that's realitistic.

I'm surprised Bruno would do it. When he did the Prince tribute he said he told them no at first, that Prince fan's are really picky and he didn't want to offend them. He said he was really nervous about it.

Well, there is no confirmation on it. They're just toying with him or asking him about it. I really do doubt he'd do it, frankly.

It'd be a better move for someone like Miguel. I mean, he puts a record out and a week later ain't no one talkin' about him. He could use a boost, especially if he's still paying that girl's medical bills; you know the one...

Anybody but that guy who played Prince on “Prince-When Doves Cry”
I can’t believe they actually let him sing in that bio. He couldn’t carry a note to save his life. You know I realize now that it’s not that easy,I’ve watched these impersonators and they just can’t pull it off. The clothes don’t fit right ( some almost look like cheap Halloween costumes ) the moves aren’t as tight, and for sure their guitar playing doesn’t even come close to Prince’s ( that’s if they even play guitar).

Well, this is from a gossip rag, so two cents of practicality should be involved in reading it. But, I wouldn't necessarily dismiss Bruno as someone to play Prince. I highly doubt that he would do so, though.

I'm personally of the opinion that there should NEVER be a movie made about Prince. He was such a private person that it would be impossible for any movie to have any degree of accuracy.

BUT, if such a movie does ever come to fruition, I think Donald Glover would be the best choice to portray Prince onscreen.

I think it's because in Prince's case his look was such an essential part of the person. I mean, if you're doing a bio pic on, say, Robert Plant or (in your example) Whitney, I don't think the appearance matters as much. The acting should be the main thing, yes, but if you cast the wrong person physically to play someone like Prince, MJ or Jimi, where the style and image so essential to the character, it can wind up looking ridiculous and take peopel out of the film.

.

A biopic about Prince is so uneccessary for many, many reasons.

Why would I watch Bruno (or anybody) play Princes life for 2 hours when I can just watch Lovesexy Live, Purple Rain, or any concert, interview, live performance etc.

.

Why should somebody else attempt to pull off the polka dotted suits, the ruffles, and play that cloud guitar? (Why Bruno's Grammy performance was a dud imo)

.

Sure people could play up the looks and personality, but you can't fool me (or any of us) when it comes to the music and execution of his stage presence. Don't get me wrong, there are good dancers out there, but Prince's style was all his own. There is nothing like the originality of Prince's turns, splits, and housequakes.

.

I was relieved to see it was reported by some bullshit gossip magazine that did not give any sort of credibility. However, I'm sure the Biopic discussion is frequently brought to the Estate, but I think even they know they have so much more visual content to release from the man himself, and ultimately it's up to them to make that happen.

Yes!

.

I feel like a documentary detailing the evolution of his tours in the 80's with footage and interviews with the different bands would be cool.

I really like Bruno and I think he's adorable also and I too love documentaries. I would watch it. As with any documentary or anything else we are fed through the media I would take it as entertainment, partial truths and not get too hung up on the facts of it.

I really hope not. There's plenty of footage to just do a solid documentary - that would be waaay better anyway.

Just give the world a documentary, please!!! We don't need someone who isn't even going to come close to portraying Prince try their hand at this. There is no one like Prince and there never will be someone like Prince. No one is going to be able to come close to showing all the little nuances and quirks that Prince had. No one will be able to move or dance or talk like him. Just do the documentary!

If you want Prince's legacy to live on you will need to introduce him to the younger generation.

It has to be someone that would interest them enough to go to the theaters to see the movie.
