If you want Prince's legacy to live on you will need to introduce him to the younger generation.

It has to be someone that would interest them enough to go to the theaters to see the movie.

I certainly won't go out of my way to see this movie confused and if Bruno was smart,he would turn down this project. His music is already extremely derivative.Does he want to be known as his own, unique artist...or as a copycat artist who simply steals his ideas and sounds from legendary artists of the past? hmmm

....

Mikado

He would have been better in that James Brown biopic a few years back.

Prince, much like MJ, just can't be portrayed.
A certain kind of mellow.

Bruno is a puppet, like most others in todays music business, he really has no choice, if they ask him to do it, he will do it. Not saying he can't hold his own on an instrument, just saying he is owned....thats all.

I agree. My opinion is no no and just no disbelief

Yes, it's tantamount to Jay Z playing Mozart..NO JUST NO....!

A better option would be to restore and release the many films in the Vault (Second Coming?) and see the master himself at work! Prince's sheet talent and charisma is not something that can be easily imitated especially by a jumped up overrated fool like Bruno.

No offense but this is a conspirationist fantasy. Real life doesn't work like that, and "they" do not exist.

No No NOOOOO

I hate that people are so quick to want to do a movie on someone now, 2-3yrs after they pass they are pushing a movie

I would prefer a real quality Documentary 1978-1990 1990-2000 2000-2016

That acting is one thing, but Prince's look not just the phyical, but the expression is sooooo important. It always has been. It always accompanied to music/album/tour. Bruno looks nothing like Prince, and I don't know of him being an actor, but I have watched him and his mannerisms are not fluid like Prince's

I don't want any movie about Prince. A documentary I would love.

Well the real news here is that Netflix is thinking of doing a Prince biopic. For all those obsessed with getting a new generation into him this is probably your best bet. It's still gonna concentrate on the 80's though!

Isn’t he too old? Unless he is playing 90’s Prince.

I agree that acting skill is the most important factor, but I have always felt that older actors trying to play young is always a bit jarring.

Personally, I would like to see a 3 part series. One spanning the beginning, his childhood and finally making it. 2 the fame and downfall. 3 the amazing comeback in the 2000’s and his untimely death.

I wouldn’t mind a stylized more artist take on him by the likes of Baz Luhrmann, Wes Anderson, or anyone with a knack for the visual.

Well this is what IMDb says:

Show ShowActor (28 credits)
Show ShowComposer (21 credits)
Show ShowDirector (11 credits)
Show ShowMusic department (4 credits)
Show ShowMiscellaneous Crew (4 credits)
Show ShowProducer (2 credits)
Show ShowEditor (1 credit)
Show ShowSelf (96 credits)
Show ShowArchive footage (20 credits)

It says he's acted. I've never seen him in anything so I can't make heads or tails from this list what roles outside of basically being himself he's played. It seems he's listed as writer in a lot of these on the list.

Only Prince can introduce Prince to no matter what generation.

There's so much music he gave us, enough footage, videos etc for generations to come. To disregard this and have someone else tell his story now (rumor or not and no matter who it would be) is like a slap in his face.

That's how I see it.

I would pay money for it to be a Spike Lee documentary. And I'm talking like a 4-parter. A Prince biopic makes me cringe at the mere thought.

The New Edition and Bobby Brown biopics that just aired on BET were WAY BETTER than I would have thought, but they were 6 and 5 hours, respectively. (I suppose without commercials maybe an hour or two shorter.) And though I REALLY like both acts, I'm not nearly as vested in either like I am in Prince. As huge of a fan of 2Pac as I am, I knew from the first second of the first trailer I had no intention of seeing that movie because seeing a copy of 2Pac is laughable. I believe the same is the case for Prince. It's amazing that Prince was even able to pull off being Prince!

(And please don't anybody propose that guy that was writhing all over the stage floor and screaming at one of the early Prince tributes... I can't remember his name and I'm not about to look him up.)

I saw a black feminine guy acting in the Hamilton musical (I forgot his name) and I think he'd be a better fit.

If it's that guy on the Nationwide commercials (Leslie Odom, Jr.), he can REALLY sing and I would venture to assume he can really act since he's been starring in a Tony-winning Broadway musical for several years. He certainly can pull off the androgynous look. I'd certainly rather him than "not really an actor" like Bruno Mars or Miguel.

Still casting my vote for a documentary though!

lol falloff

I'd prefer a talented, tiny, newcomer actor. But... if Bruno can pull it off, that will get more attention from everyone: younger people, non-fans, media. I'm all for whatever gives the movie the highest profile.

No one can ever play Prince and anyone that tries will be haunted by criticism of it for the rest of their career.

It's the classic "no-win" scenario.

And Bruno Mars needs to quit smoking. Smoking is for losers.
