Also I'd like to know if PR would ever be recertified by RIAA... Last time it was certified was in 1996 with 13 million in the USA. Last year alone PR sold over 700,000 copies and with the recent release it will surely pass another million...

I'd be interested to know how many more millions it has sold since 1996... I'd estimate it's well over 16 million copies by now in the USA at least...

It sold 15.8 millions in the US, with streaming added, as it counts now in the certifications.

So by the end of the year, it will reach the 16 million mark. Another proof that WB doesn't want to promote the PR DELUXE, or else it would have been recertified by now.

I was referring to 2017 releases, but you're right, Kendrick, Drake and Ed have cleared a million (I was looking at an old table).

Regardless, the point stands - it used to be common for albums to debut with a million sales, or close to it. Given the new reality (this week's #1, Bryson Tiller, just barely broken 100K), calling 4EVER a flop or a disappointment just isn't accurate.

4EVER is no flop... Like I stated in my previous post... 4EVER is still in the TOP 200 and selling slow but steadily... 4EVER has sold more than PLECTRUM ELECTRUM, AOA, PHASE 1 & PHASE 2...

Of course these are studios album that received no promotion and that are universally regarded as crap. Nothing to do with a post-mortem greatest hits promoted on the tv.

I'm sure you understand this has nothing to do.

It's surely not an opinion to say that Prince's commercial carreer spans much more than 1978-1993.

Only one unreleased track is not appealing enough, that's why most orgers here didn't buy it. When even the fans doesn't buy it, that says a lot.

Once again, you seem to ignore the music market is not only the USA and the UK. You have a lot to discover...

Bowie's LEGACY sold more in the UK than 4EVER. It sold less in the US, but all in all it compensates. As you seem to ignore the rest of the world, its chartrun shows its sold more in almost every other coutries than 4EVER.

.

Moreover, LEGACY doesn't contain an unreleased track, contrary to FOREVER. It was only updated with singles from BLACKSTAR. If there was an unreleased track, it would have sold much more.

.

Like if 4EVER contained post 1993 tracks, or at least 2 unreleased tracks. That is called logic.

This is not personnal opinion to say the sales are very low for this kind of release - yes, very low.

You're wrong. We're in an age when the highest selling album of the year has yet to sell a million copies. No one is expecting similar for a Prince compilation. The day of the Eagle's Greatest Hits selling 20 million copies are long gone. Can you point me to a recent best of that's done better? Certainly not Bowie's Legacy.

I don't see much point in marketing the album until it's in the stores. Joe Public isn't gonna see an ad for PR Deluxe today and preorder it; and by the time it releases, he'll have forgotten all about it. He needs to see the ad, and then pop into the shop and buy it while there's heat.

Us Orgers, we're fish in a barrel because we're on top of things and have already preordered it.

I'm not worried at all.

Whats the deal?? Why no promotion at all for the upcoming PR Deluxe that will be relesed in a few weeks. I mean literally no promotion at all besides the new music site that was launched a month ago where you can buy all the WB stuff and the new remastered 7" and 12" singles...

Who is handling this, WB? Prince estate? Both?? What happens if it fails to sell, what is the future for other re releases and deluxe remasterings of his golden age 80's catalouge...

Oh, you're at it again?

I can't wait for your "PR Deluxe didn't sell shit and Prince is over and done even in death" thread next month lol lol lol

More seriously, you shouldn't let things like that upset you so much. I mean, you are aware of PR Deluxe, aren't you? So you will be able to purchase it as soon as it's out. Now if the record was to be released without me knowing, yeah I'd be pissed as hell. But as long as I'm aware of it, I sleep pretty well. You should too nod

But in a serious matter, I don't like whenever we discuss sales a lot of fams get so guarded on that subject...

I'm just curious why there hasn't been any real promotion for his first major release since his death on his most important album, that was all, and how it would affect the commericalism for the future releases for deluxe editions if indeed it doesn't sell well...

I'd be interested to know how many more millions it has sold since 1996... I'd estimate it's well over 16 million copies by now in the USA at least...

That's 25 million WORLD WIDE.

In the U.S.A. it is only certified 13x Platinum by the RIAA... It hasn't been recertified since 1996.

I've seen several TV ads, saw an hour long documentary on BBC Two past weekend, saw a truckload of articles (even in mainstream publications). And yes, such articles are the result of promo, with journalists being invited to listening sessions at Abbey Road and interviews with Giles Martin.

.

It does seem odd that there's so far little fanfare WRT PR Deluxe; perhaps the August issues of Mojo and/or Uncut will feature multi-page articles?

As labels define it, promo is paid advertising. The documentary and interviews are press. And it remains to be seen if there will be any similar efforts for Purple Rain - as you suggest, let's wait and see what hits once it's available.

.

Judging from previous months, Uncut and Mojo will reveal the contents of their upcoming issues by the end of this week. Uncut's July 2017 issue had "The Return of Prince's Revolution" as one of its cover lines, and that was for a two-page concert review.
