Because you're being ridiculous. They weren't badgering Prince because they didn't need to be up his ass about anything. What did you expect, for them to be over at Paisley kissing his ass all day? They've got a city to run.

Unlike you, they obviously had better things to do with their time than worry about that man. And OBVIOUSLY Prince wasn't upset that they weren't all over him. He only stayed there some THIRTY DAMN YEARS.

They weren't 'squeezing money out of' Prince. Every business -- including Paisley Park, which is a business -- has to pay taxes to exist in a city. Get over it, your bad attitude is certainly not a good look.

--What on God's green earth are you talking about? If you took the time to read the article the city was going to charge the estate $14,000.00 for services but then decided to be nice and charge just $8,000.00. Municipalities don't have different fees depending on the wealth of the citizen that was a cash grab. I also do not think anyone had to have their head of his ass just be fucking respectful and not fucking fake. My guess is he had no idea what phoney fake asses these people were or did not care it does not make their greedy actions okay. Do not get pissed because of the information that is being presented it is what it is. Naked greed and fake ass people.

Your guess is completely wrong, as usual, but whatever. It's actually disrespectful to assume that they shouldn't ask for the estate to pay his fucking bills, whether it's $8,000 or $14,000. You don't know how much it cost them to provide the service, so get your damn nose out of their business and find some of your own. What are they supposed to do, tell the emts, coroner, and police, "Nope, we can't pay you. You can't feed your families becuse hey, it was Prince! You had the honor of being called out to deal with this emergency for free because it was Prince!" Wrong. You're all in a tizzy because a couple people (not even the city) didn't care that it was Prince's stuff. So what? It may come as a shock to you, sweetie, but Prince was not the most important person on the planet, and even he needed to pay for services rendered to him. And yeah, I did see that it was initially $14,000. Obviously, they reconsidered. And do you even know whether it actually did cost them that much, or did you even bother to look that shit up. I certainly didn't, because to be honest, I don't really care. I'm not looking for reasosn to shred people over shit that isn't even going to make an impact in my life. I have better things to do with my time.

I don't know what, exactly, you want from the city -- do you want them to turn themselves into a theme park or some shit, to exist solely for the purpose of entertaining fanatics like you to come over and disrupt their entire lives just so you can feel good?

The fuck are YOU on about.

So the next time the police, fire dept etc have to attend one of your emergencies, will you be sent a bill?

Wtf..kind of crap is that? Prince, like the rest of us paid.his taxes which covers emergency services.

Sending his estate a bill because the police had to come out to PP is downright money grubbing bullshit. He had already paid for this before he died, a million times over.

Uhhhh...yeah.

I had a car accident last year. I was uninjured (except for a shattered acrylic fingernail), but an ambulance responded and they took my vitals and whatnot because my airbag deployed. I got a bill from the municipality (in Wisconsin) where it happened - even though I wasn't a little bit hurt.

Any time my parents have needed an ambulance (in Arizona), they've gotten a bill.

Ok, im not going to waste a bunch of time reading the three pages of comments. I didnt even finish the boring article contained in the OP because anyone who got butt hurt over that needs their head examined. The city of Chanhassen and its officials have been nothing but respectful of Prince AND THE ESTATE. You should know any hesitation on the city's part is due to the legal wranglings involving the estate. If you want to get on anybody's ass its the estate administrators and Prince's heirs and various lawyers that have kept the city and its representatives at arm's length. Going back further let me ask if any of you are familiar with PRN at all?! You know the guy famously known for shunning publicity, reporters, and strangers who want to get in his face and snap his picture without permission. Prince wasnt exactly a warm, fuzzy, approachable dude. The city and its people respected his space and his privacy. Idk how the hell you twisted it into something entirely negative and hateful. What a pity to live in such a dark manner day in and day out. What color is the sky in that world? Do you ever see the sky? Do you confine yourself within walls 24/7? Like you are in prison for realz maybe. That would explain some things perhaps. shrug

Wow, you guys. Treat the city Prince loved like shit. It's okay, Prince didn't love it there precisely because it was quiet and he was able to do shit like go to the store without being badgered. Or ride his bike around or whatever. But whatever, you all know better than he did about his home city. Carry on.

Agreed.

I live about a mile or so from Chanhassen and just further, Paisley Park.

He had a strained relationship with the city, including not returning phone calls, emails, late taxes etc. Clearly he had the money to pay any bill- but chose to be late with many of them. I don't hold this against him, but you can't hold it against the city of Chanhassen for being hesitant to go out of their way for Paisley Park, even after his tragic death. Yes, Paisley Park is an amazing studio to many of us, myself included, with many of our favorite Prince concerts/moments captured there. But I can see the other side of the relationship as well...unannounced concerts, late night gigs...the local security costs (I've seen the local sheriff departments present at many of the shows and they did a great job!).

Let's not demonize or deify either side before we see the picture from their perspective.

Yup. I've had it happen. And it's usually expensive as hell, too. Not $14,000 expensive, tho. After all, I'm not famous, so there won't be hundreds of people showing up at my doorstep as in Prince's case. To expect Chanhassen not to have that large a bill for Prince is really rather silly -- I mean, crowd control to keep people OUT was probably a large part of that bill. I think someone here already posted a list of things that go along with something like this. To expect the estate to have the same bill as Joe Schmoe down the block is ridiculous. Prince was a celebrity. The number of people who are going to go out there is quite a lot.

But whatever, man. Keep believing it was 'money grubbing'. $14,000 is not 'money grubbing'. If they wanted to do that, they'd've found a way to inflate that bad boy upwards quite sharply. And I'm fairly certain they could use iminent domain to add a water plant at Paisley Park. But they noped it.

Y'all conspiracy theorists are exhausting with your foolishness.

Maybe you need to listen to Jerome Benton in an interview were he had said he was not surprised back in the fall when the city was making it difficult to open the museum. He said they were difficult when it was being built and he must have gotten pulled over 100s of times by the local cops.

What are you talking about, "their side"? This thread is based on a article summarizing some (boring small-town) emails that the people involved didn't write with goal of them being published to push a "side."

-

You're insinuating there was some sort of aggressively hostile relationship between the town and Prince and there's just no evidence of that. If there were, Prince would have hightailed out of there years ago. He was clearly a fan of the town, even if Jerome Benton wasn't!

The key words there would be "one poster", yet we have folks who by their own admission haven't even bothered to read the thread telling people to "go see the sky" or that they are "living in a prison", and others accusing people of being "whacked out", and so forth.

But seriously now, perhaps Chanhassen is not the most exciting place to live in, but Prince chose to live there; it was his home and he never spoke a bad word about Chanhassen. People there should be proud that Prince lived there!

.

Chanhassen is a small town and doesn't work with a big budget. When Prince died, the town of Chanhassen was not prepared for what they had to do. It was overwhelming and they needed assistance from the city/state level. I know it may seem like Prince's estate is getting nickeled and dimed for every single, little thing, but they had a lot to take on. I would not want to be in their shoes. This has been nothing short of a nightmare. I think they are doing the best they can.

This part though...... sad

Others simply lamented the loss of Prince, or responded to reports of his overdose from a painkiller. “His loss is tragic and will have impact on the music world and our community for years. His death could have been prevented had the need for secrecy and privacy not outweighed the need to get him help,” wrote Susan Davis, the executive director of Choices Psychotherapy, in a September e-mail. “What this community needs is more clinics like mine.”

That would explain some things perhaps. shrug [Edited 5/15/17 20:54pm]

Seriously? lol

Hows about I ask YOU a question? If you cannot be bothered to be respectful enough to read the thoughts of others, then why should they care to read your long, drawn out essay?

Don't you think that attitude is a bit arrogant? You guys getting personally offended over criticism of Chanhassen is just as silly .

Thank you. Some are crying over a town that they do not even live in.

It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN
