When did I say there was anything special about Chanhassen? I didn't. But to suggest the only good thing about the city was that Prince lived there is ridiculous. I beg to differ. I find these two examples to be quite bothersome and reflective of a shitty attitude being displayed by some of the fine citizens of Chanhassen who were scheming and conniving to get their hands on Prince's property before he was even funeralized.....

“The neighborhood still thinks that there is opportunity to plan the treatment plant within Prince’s property,” the city manager wrote in a September e-mail to a City Council member. “Why we have not done this [is because] the property is not under the ownership of a developer. If it was under one ownership we could look for opportunities like we did with the current location.”

“You can not just pick a spot for the water treatment plant and then plan the development around it – that is not a good planning process,” Gerhardt explained. He subsequently told PRM that the plant is being built on another site, and not on Prince’s property.


Just add these to the long list of vultures that have been circling for the past year.

Yeah Prince and city officials didn't have much of a relationship, mostly because he was so reclusive. What is the mayor supposed to do, knock on Prince's door and demand he let him in for tea or something? How often was the mayor invited to Paisley events? Sounds like he wasn't, ever.

The same could be said for the Rock Hall of Fame. When I visited the museum, there was no Prince memorabilia on display. When I asked employees there why, they said because he refused to give or loan any. So again, what are they supposed to do? It takes two.

As for the email about rich white people, there's no excuse for that. Obviously Prince was the best thing Chan had going for it, but no need to insult all the other residents.

Many? Um no. I live here and can tell you most residents were not up in arms or against PP opening as a museum. Of course in a city of 23,000 not everyone is going to be a Prince fan.

Exactly. You'll always have the cranky older folks who will complain about the "additional traffic", parking and other nonsense. But the bottom line is any minor negatives are more than offset by the additional tourism revenue. Any time you bring a bunch of tourists to your town, it's fantastic for the local economy.
