The author's unnamed sources suggest that Prince's use of the prescription painkiller Percodan contributed to his erratic behavior circa 2000.

What erratic behaviour?

That's interesting if it's true.

I'm really looking forward to reading this book even more now tons of fans who haven't even read it are jumping up and down shouting their mouth off about it.

Prince preaches, but does he practice?

---
People are jumping on it based on Jon Breams bad review. The book comes off as being tabloid like.

When you focus or his relationships with woman, health and disgruntled employees people are going to be negative.

What do you want Prince to practice. He is human being and he would not be the first person in the world to get hooked on a pain killer. Keep in mind we do not know if this is even true. In addtion, a lot of his scandalous behavior has already been put out by his associates. It looks like he has mellowed out and now is having a lot of old shit dragged out of the past.

A few quick comments. First, I have no knowledge of the "Hepatitis C" story discussed above. There is nothing about it in the book.

If Prince did have some sort of medical condition -- something I have no reason to believe -- I would have been very hesitant to report it. The hospital incident that opens the book, on the other hand, I consider a relevant and fair subject of inquiry. Prince has long presented himself as Puritanical on the subject of drugs and alcohol, so information that contradicts this stance is relevant to a full portrait of him.

Regarding the use of anonymous sources, it is often the only way to get people to reveal information. I was always careful to assess the motivations of someone who insisted on being quoted anonymously, and I ran the information in question by as many different sources as possible. If anonymous sources weren't permitted in journalism, Richard Nixon would never have resigned office. That said, it is important to use anonymous sources responsibly and carefully, which I strived to do.

Hahahah..Richard Nixon? Oh now its compared to Watergate..COMEDY!. Maybe Prince will give up and resign as owner of Paisley Park. And yeah Prince has been staunch is his down on drugs in his band for the most part but there has always been those in the entourage who partook in illicit drugs..thats known. And if Prince taking painkillers for injuries sustained from a career of heels and splits, well then that's not exactly becoming a pothead etc now is it? And only soemone living in the clouds thinks that Prince is sustained on herbal tea and the bible anyways. We know he isn't a saint and has been very hypocritcal at time. Are we supposed to say thanks for more writings focused on that?

I don't know many people who haven't said or done something contradictory in their entire lives. Even your own interview (which was posted here) was contradictory.

first of all I give the Cat Props for Writing a Book on Prince because you gotta be real it ain't like he was fighting with other Journalist to Write on Him at this stage of the game.but I think you have to balance out things with His Music&Him if you are gonna write on Him or anyone else.I gotta say the Author is a true Fan because He is Writing a Book on Prince.if Alex Hahn was just wanting some Loot His Book would have been "The Rise&Fall" Of Michael Jackson.but He isn't trying to cash in on Prince because you'd have to go back 10 years for that overall IMHO.but the Book is like alot of other Prince Books I've read aside from DMSR Imp of the Preverse&Prince a Pop Life this Book&the others have some interesting things in them but are so Average at best they never go anywhere.

Alex, I'm about midway through your book on Prince...i'm
up to the chapter after he broke up the Revolution.
So what's my opinion?

So far very intriguing stuff. While there is a lot of the dirt on PRINCE & company is familiar to me quite a few
things you've presented are revelations. The only negative
aspects i have thus far have to do with a few mistakes...
(nothing to bitch at you about) one is real minor...
(you have controversy coming out in 1982-when it was the year before) Otherwise the portrait you portray of Prince
is honest and fair. I love his musical ability but the flaws
he has makes him fascinating to me.
unlike a lot of fans i can separate the music from the
MAN. yes he has hurt a trail of people and is everything
you say he is (i know a few minor folk who know him and
what they say is pretty similiar to what you are writing.)
But strange as it may seem his genius is due to all of
his faults. if he was a nicer person i doubt if he'd would
have become the musical giant he is.

again i'm still digesting the book and will let you know
other impressions as i get further on in.

kudos to you for writing quite an addictive book.

oh before i forget...how could the guy find the time to
make so much wonderful music-with the endless lovers he
has had (and i'm only in 1986-87) unbelievable.

one surprise you did explore was sheila e being one of his
girlfriends. in all of the other books they didn't talk
about sheila and prince, romantically. and if they did they
were too subtle about it.

my only regret is you weren't able to get any interviews
with her or the GIRL bros.

anyway ALex many props to ya. more to come...

Total props to Alex. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't have Uptown magazine. I think we owe it to him to read his book. If you have ever enjoyed Uptown or their books, then this is the dude that defended and researched alot of their stuff so HATS OFF TO HIM!
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I don't agree, the legal action against Uptown was based on very shaky ground and never stood a realistic chance. The sites/mags that closed usually did so due to their bootlegging activities...

I love reading trashy stuff like this. Just treat it as a bit of fun.

Why would I want to read a book about Prince's music, when I can just listen to it myself?

I might actually order this book...

I just finished reading the book. The striking thing about "Possessed" is that the closer to the end it gets the less factual it becomes. First half of the book is better; there are many interviews. But the second half is much worse as it mainly focuses on Prince's relations with women and draws a picture of a total freak and a recluse. There's a nice chapter devoted to the recording and promoting of "Rave", though.
Besides, there are many inconsistencies in the book; it is confusing when you read that Prince practically didn't socialize with his bandmates during the Purple Rain tour and they never rebuilt the former spiritual bonds after that, just to flip over three pages to read that prior to recording "Around the World...", just after completing the Purple Rain tour, he had the strongest, almost metaphysical relation with Lisa and Wandy and the rest of the Revolution.
It is fun to read but it falls short of being a successor to"DMSR".

BOLLOCKS.

FACT: one of the websites sued was run by someone who was AT THAT TIME an active member of the Love4OneAnother team.

The sites and magazines closed because they couldn't face a lawsuit, and/or because they were fed up with Prince. The Pricne Family for instance, THE major source of Prince info at the time and very cool people, closed their site, stopped publishing their newsletter and even sold much of their collection, even tough they weren't even mentioned in the lawsuit. (After they closed shop, Ben & Kevin set up the news pages on the old Org.)
