On Nov 4, 2016 I bought new CD - 94 EAST featuring Prince (2016)

So I know that there was an album released about 1986 called Minnapolis Genius, that were Pepe Willie's 94 East (with a young Prince in the band about 16 or 17 years old). But on Nov. 4, 2016 I was in my city of Winnipeg, Canada at a bookstore called McNally Robinson, and the store also sells CDs and Vinyl. So I look in the funk section and there is a CD with a purple cover and in lighter purple are the words 94 EAST featuring PRINCE. And the only photograph on the cover is a big picture of Prince's head, face of course, and his neck. Prince's hair is like on the cover of For You, you know, long and straightish, definitely not an afro of any kind. And we know that in Prince's very early days, like when he was 12ish and living with Andre Anderson (Andre Cymone) in with Andre's family, Prince had a very big afro oviously influenced by the Jackson 5's huge afros. So I don't know what Prince's hair was like when he was 16 or 17. So in this CD that I bought, and it was the only copy in the store, so McNally Robinson, does not have the thing anymore, I have it. So anyway, and I probably should have said this first, the CD has a booklet inside with 6 pages of text written by Roger Murdoch. Does anyone know Roger Murdoch, because I have never heard of this guy in my life. Anyway, Roger Murdough knows his Prince history because everything is everything I ever knew about Prince, except one huge mistake Roger Murdoch calls John Nelson's band The Prince Nelson Trio, and we ALL know that ain't right! Roger Murdoch just says this CD has more songs than Minneapolis Genius , plus "The Cookhouse Five" apparently five songs that are very, very rare. I have never heard of "The Cookhouse Five" so it was news to me. Has anyone heard of "The Cookhouse Five"? So there are 13 tracks on this CD and I'll just list them as they are printed on the back cover:

1. Just Another Sucker (Prince, Willie)

2. If You Feel Like Dancin' (Wilie)

3. Lovin' Cup (Willie)

4. Games (ORIGINAL VERSION) (Willie)

5. Dance To The Music Of The World (Willie)

6. One Man Jam (Willie)

7. If You See Me (Willie)

8. I'll Always Love You (Willie)

9. Better Than You Think (Willie)

10. If We Don't (Willie)

11. You Can Be My Teacher (Willie)

12. Love, Love, Love (Willie)

13. Dance To The Music Of The World (REHEARSAL SESSION VERSION) (Wille)

As you can see, there is only one song that Prince gets credit for. But in Roger Murdoch's liner notes he says Prince plays Guitar, Bass, Synths, and Prince only sings Backing Vocals. The very first sentence of the liner notes is These tracks are Prince's very first forays into a recording studio (he was just 17 when he played on these sessions) and as such, they have attained near-mythical status over the years. Jesus, why didn't I start this post with that information? Anyway, oh boy, it is 12:50a now on Nov 6 as I'm writing this, so my brain is not all that sharp, in fact I'm half asleep. There is another sentence in the liner notes that is important Until his untimely and tragic death on April 21st 2016, he elevated pop music... Need I finish the sentence? So obviously, this CD was made very, very recently. So, believe me, before I started this post I did The Org's Google Custom Search to see if there had been any posts about this CD, and there was absolutely nothing. So, has little old me, 7thday from Winnipeg, Canada just scooped the entire Org? Shouldn't someone like Prince's sister, or Dr. Funkenberry or whatever his name is, the guy that always has the news first, or at least someone in Minneapolis, or the whole United States, be the one who has broke this news? Or am I from a Parallel Universe because that's seems to be a real thing now, have you heard of The Mandela Effect, CERN, The Large Hadron Collider, The God Partical, String Theory, or the latest news from Stephen Hawking from the world of Physics?

Seriously? The 94 east/Pepe Willie first release of Minneapolis Genius was like 29 a years ago. Not even considered a part of the official Prince discography. It's a nice peek at Prince's early beginnings that's it

That post is a bigger mess than a pot of overcooked pasta. Pepe's been releasing that 94 East shit for eons. I remember the very first one right around the Purple Rain era. Then there was a CD set in the late 90s with the Cookhouse recordings, then another, and one before than, but three after or whatever. It's a bit like saying "Hey, I found a copy of Purple Rain on compact disk!"

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

Why are there so many assholes on this site? Other fan sites aren't like this. This poster found something new to them. If it's not new to you, then don't comment on it. There's also a reissue of this as a boxset on 180gram vinyl. Enjoy your new cd.

A record that weighs 180 grams over the usual 140. Despite what some masturbators may tell you, there is no real proof it sounds better. It feels nice, but then so does masturbation.

New vinyl costs more because there are fewer record pressing plants than years ago.

Why the fuck would you want to leave a record in a hot car?

A "2016 Remastered" edition of the 94 East album will be out on Friday, at least on iTunes.

There is also a single released with Just Another Sucker/One Man Jam which is available at Spotify, Apple Music etc.

Oh please, ETS is waaaay worse when some clueless fuckwit decides to add his uninformed $.02 to a discussion. And by worse I mean better: they actually clean up threads and deposit rubbish in a "rubbish" thread. Guess what? Turns out that's how you end up with a very informative forum where experts happily discuss and debate, where fans combine forces to rip streams in the best possible quality, where people collect a significant sum of money and fund the release of a DAT tape with previously unreleased music, etc.

.

This poster found something new to them. If it's not new to you, then don't comment on it.

.

Yes, let's celebrate somebody who decides to post 700+ words about a THIRTY YEAR OLD release, most of them completely uninformed. Didn't bother to use Google, didn't bother to consult the single Prince wiki that matters, didn't bother to check a decent discography. OMG somebody re-released Minnapolis Genius! What a shock.

I agree, but he's 14 or something. We may have said a shitload of uninformed nonsense had we had the Org when we were naive, young fans nod

Thanks to all who posted. You have to know that my city of Winipeg, Canada is not exactly a hot bed for black funk artists. It's hard to find James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Rick James etc here except for compilations. I'm not the biggest Prince fan by far on the org, and I didn't get into his music until the 1999 album. We are a blue collar town that loves it's Hockey Night in Canada and lore about Neil Young and the Squires, the Devrons (Burton Cummings first band), The Guess Who of course, who for a short time out sold a little band called the Beatles (OK it was 1970) (The Guess Who were deeply loved by one Lester Bangs) then there was Brave Belt and Bachman Turner Overdrive, a great band called Streetheart who had an amazing bassist known only as Spider, the Crash Test Dummies, Propagandhi and the Weakerthans, who sing a song called "One Great City" which has the line I...hate...Winipeg. Which only Winipeggers like me can really appreciate. One of our punks said it best: Winipeg: Where the Strong Survive and the Weak Move Away. So yes, this early Prince CD was completely new to me, and all you snobs could be a little nicer to novice fans like me. I am enjoying my find very much thanks.
