Remember to download between 00:01 on Friday 16th December 2016 and 23:59 on Thursday 22nd December 2016. (GMT times).

IF YOU ARE CHOOSING TO DOWNLOAD MORE THAN ONE SONG, PLEASE START WITH 'THE CROSS' & download the other songs in the order of the list.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a campaign for a Prince song to reach the UK Christmas Charts Number 1 place.

The Christmas chart is a normal selling weekly chart. This is the chart that is announced on Friday 23rd December this year counting downloads and streaming from 16th to 22nd December, therefore telling us what is the UK Xmas No 1. It is like any other week throughout the year. Any song can be in it, regardless of its style.

The UK has made a big deal about this Xmas Number for decades and it always seems to be an honour for an artist to try and get. We are hoping that Prince will get that honour this year. We feel that Prince's music deserves to be heard by many people and not just his fans. Becoming number 1 will help his music become more "mainstream" and increase the chances of its legacy to survive and ultimately encourage more music to be released.

We are hoping to see all the Prince fans join in and stand up from the sad events of this difficult year whilst bringing back some well deserved spotlight on Prince by celebrating his music together.

The final song that has received the most votes in our two surveys is The Cross. This is therefore the song that will be prioritised in the downloads by the campaign participants between 16th and 22nd December 2016. We will hopefully be numerous enough to make it reach the number one place in this year's UK Christmas chart. In theory, there are enough Prince fans in the UK to make it happen... But only if we all chip in. We are able, but are we willing? It is up to U!

So, let's see if Prince can become Number 1 this Christmas. cool

Hi mickey biggrin Yes the account has been set up but is not entirely ready for use just yet, was going to finish it later, add all the info etc. The account name is Prince4Christmas and the handle is @Prince4Xmas simply because it wouldn't accept the whole name, for some reason. I hope that won't confuse people. biggrin

Today I will be compiling a list of charities that we could support alongside this campaign, to make it all even more worthwhile. So please feel free to post your suggestions on here, stating why you think the charity you are proposing would be a good one to support alongside a Prince song campaign.

.

These are a few that have been mentioned so far:

http://www.musicforall.org.uk/
https://www.youthmusic.org.uk/
http://www.voices.org.uk/
http://www.mfy.org.uk/aboutmfy/

.

Another one that I think would be great is Autism Rocks. They have already organised events in connection with Prince and Prince himself had supported them before. They also organised the London Prince tribute back in June with (The Time and Larry Graham amongst others), which I attended. I have just sent them an email and I am now waiting to hear.

.

I think this would also help with our participation levels.

.

Thank you very much for your support, it's still very much needed and if you could please keep continue spreading the word, sharing on www.facebook.com/Prince4Christmas/, re-tweeting and following on Twitter twitter.com/Prince4Xmas, that would be great, we really do need each and everyone of you!

.

And please don't forget to use the hashtags #prince4xmas #prince4christmas, whenever you can!

Following the boost from NPG Underground on Facebook yesterday, we've had a lot of votes coming in from the US. This is great (thanks guys!) but we now need more votes from the UK fans as we are not sure whether all US campaign supporters will be 'willing or able' to purchase the track in the end (there will be some instructions on how to do this nearer to xmas, should they want to give it a go).

.

I hope they will of course, but to be safe, best is to ensure the votes are reflecting the UK's choice as much as possible, as - should the campaign succeed - the UK is where the song will ultimately be played on the radio. So please, vote all you like and tell all your friends about it too. Thank you!

.

On a side note, Autism Rocks has been in touch and I am now in discussions with their founder.

.

I will keep you posted!

I don't get it.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Great work, Cherry!

So we're now up to the point of voting for one of the three names tracks, yes? (But it still might all change if ML gets a single release?)

I am going on FB now to do the necessaries!

Edit: The problem is that I now genuinely can't decide between SWSAT and TC...Can I vote twice? biggrin

For the next three days, we are going to take a closer look at the three songs that you need to choose from and give you a little background information about each one… So let’s start with the song that scored the highest in our pre-selection, Still Would Stand All Time.

Still Would Stand All Time is the 15th track on Prince's 12th album Graffiti Bridge. The song also features in the 1990 movie, Graffiti Bridge. The album was released on August 21, 1990 by Paisley Park Records and Warner Bros. Records and did a lot better than the film in terms of sales, reaching number 6 in the US and making it Prince’s 3rd consecutive chart-topper after Lovesexy and Batman in the UK Album charts. The choir you can hear on Still Would Stand All Time is performed by The Steeles who are five siblings, J.D., Fred, Jearlyn, Jevetta, and Billy Steele.

The Steeles grew up in Gary, Indiana, subsequently moved to Minnesota and gradually became part of the Minnesota sound. They have recorded with many other artists including Donald Fagen, Morgan Freeman, George Clinton, Mavis Staples, Johnny Lang, Peabo Bryson and The Five Blind Boys of Alabama. In 1987, Jevetta Steele had a hit in 1987, with her song 'Calling You', from the film Bagdad Café, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1988. For those interested in reading more about The Steeles, here is a link to their website: http://www.thesteelesmusic.com/biographi…/the-steeles-family

If you have voted for this song, please tell us why you like it and why you think it would be a good song for this campaign. We look forward to reading your comments.

For those who haven't voted yet, the survey is on here: https://surveyplanet.com/...6263f36e0a

SWSAT - well, it is an incredibly powerful song, lyrically...Never did those words seem so pertinent than to 2016 and everything that is troubling our world...It's a spiritual song, without being dogmatic or pushing one religion over another - in that sense it very much has a unifying message, one which seems appropriate for Christmas (even though that is a Christian festival).

.

Musically - it is a wonderfully eclectic mix of gospel harmonies, those husky lead vocals from Prince himself, the piano, the sitar (I think - at least it sounds like it, lol). My point is that, like the lyrical content and message, the music brings many styles and instruments together, unifying sounds which might not normally be associated with one another. It works.

.

Visually - I don't think Prince ever looked so beautiful, did he? If eyes are the window to the soul, well, I think we're seeing his in this video clip... smile

every time. There is real, raw, emotion and I can feel it. It is one of my favorites.

Today, our focus will be on the song that came second in our pre-selection, The Cross.

This is the 5th track on Prince's 9th album Sign O' The Times, released in 1987 by Paisley Park Records and Warner Bros. Records. The album is the follow-up to Parade (1986) and is Prince's first album following his disbanding of The Revolution. Sign O’ The Times reached number 4 in the UK album charts. A live version of The Cross features as the closing track on the concert movie Sign O' The Times in place of the usual It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night in the tour setlist.

The initial tracking of the song took place on 13 July 1986 at Sunset Sound, during the same one-day session that produced Everybody Want What They Don't Got. Prince plays all instruments on this track, including the drums. The track was initially included on the 18 July 1986 configurations of Dream Factory (by Prince and the Revolution) and was kept for inclusion as the album developed into the triple-album Crystal Ball on the 30 November 1986 configuration, which was eventually trimmed down and became Sign O' The Times.

During one of the aftershows at The Pod in Dublin, the show opened with U2 frontman Bono joining Prince and the band to sing The Cross. This is the only time Prince has performed with any member of U2. On April 22nd this year, Bono posted an image of a simple printout of the lyrics to 'The Cross' on Instagram.

Still one of my favourites after all these years. The words are beautiful and uplifting even though I am a total atheist. I liked the denim and glasses look from SOTT:

Unlike SISIA it doesn't bring me to tears (and it doesn't send me to sleep like SWSAT boxed )
