So we are going to get shorter edited versions of what we already have? WB thinks that is going to make the hard core fans rush to buy it?

If anything, the 'hardcore fans' would surely want the 7" versions previously unreleased on CD rather than the same album versions they already have. Things like 12" and 7" versions previously unavailable on a digital format is the main pull for these kind of releases for me.

Another hardcore fan here who is excited that the 7" edits are finally included on a compilation. wave

I find it amazing that some fans actually want or would listen to radio edits, much less pay for them. I can understand the desire for a collection of 12" versions which are extended from the album, but a 7" radio edit has no appeal to me, but I respect your opinion.

I like to have the 7" edits for when I've got 'shuffle play' going in the background. That way, when listening to the complete album, it feels more special because I'm getting the full album version!

The demand for 7" edits is so high that a fanmade collection of them turned up a few years ago: http://prince.org/msg/7/342405

Agree 100% about album versions feeling more special when they are only heard in the context of their respective albums.

I am stunned that there are people who want this stuff. To each his own. I can't fathom listening to the When Doves Cry radio edit over the album version because the song goes to another level after the guitar solo starts. Ditto for many other singles.

Occasionally you'll find it's more than an edit, every once in awhile there's differences in the mix as well. I would give an example but I'm blanking on it right now, but I know it has happened from time to time.

I guess you're also not interested in those rare promo mono mixes either? Doubt we'll see any of those reissued anytime soon.

Yes, indeed, I do the same and am very happy with those edits in higher quality. When I'm on the road I want to listen to the short versions on shuffle, when I'am at home I listen to the albums.

.

Even though some edits are really awful (think about the into of Let's go crazy, or Purple Rain, or Scandalous/Insatiable with parts of lyrics missing).

There are also others I prefer to the album versions (think Kiss outro on the single, or Alphabet St.)

People are making shit up. According to Princevault the version on rave was the 1982 version as such. Of course it is possible that Uptown/Nilsen missed out a rerecording or rework, but I highly suspect that those Rave tracklists are more than just tracklist and that Nilsen has actually heard tapes that are in the hands of certain collectors. I was once told that at least one Rave config is circulating among elite collectors.

In any case those people who assume there exists a 1989 remix/rerecording are just making shit up: as far as we know no such thing exists.

It says in the press release that it was reworked for the original Rave album.this is prince we are talking about, I'm sure he reworked Monnbeam Levels

Unless u r referring to another press rlease than the one at the beginning of this thread, I am absolutely amazed at how some of u people r capable of reading things that aren't there in sentences, it's pretty scary actually after the mishmash between the meaning of "of" and "including/with" I was noting above.

It says: "Prince 4Ever includes "Moonbeam Levels" - a previously unreleased song originally recorded in 1982 during the 1999 sessions and later considered for the never released Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic album."

"Considered". Not "reworked". "Considered".

I was going to leave it but but but...I just can't! lol

Databank I am going to call you out. Referring to "you people" is just plain arrogant. You come across as superior and imply only you have sufficient knowledge to comment on anything Prince related.

Now before I go on let me qualify that statement...

I do enjoy reading your posts most of the time. You clearly do know your stuff and probably ARE one of the most informed people on the org in relation to your Prince knowledge. But you come across in a lot of your posts as if you think you are THE most knowledgeable person on the org. You might be but there are plenty of other folk on here who know their stuff too and have been on the Prince journey since almost the beginning or certainly the early years.

That attitude in your posts also flavours your response on other topics. For example, you try to school me on the English language and press releases! I know the difference between the meaning of "of" and "including/with" but as I said before You are, I fear, being too literal and taking a press release at face value.

I work in Marketing and PR (at Director level) and I can tell you that press releases are often not to be taken as literal customer promises. That might be wrong but it is true. As I pointed out above the press release was inaccurate as it mentioned TMBGITW - so that does not fill me with confidence or trust in the accuracy of the description on what will be on the second disc (album) with the PR deluxe release.

For that reason I made a prediction as to content and for fun I was prepared to bet you regarding the content (and actually hope YOU are right and we get far more than my prediction).

But seriously, we all know you are clever and clued up on Prince stuff...good for you (as I said I enjoy reading most of what you say) but please be a bit more respectful of other people's views and stop this "you people" crap!

I'd find it strange he wouldnt re-tweak Moonbeam for Rave as he did with Feel U Up and even Irresistable Bitch recorded around the same time. I guess we will find out soon.

Messing up with customers' expectations is something that cost Prince a great deal in his fandom: maybe WB will want to be careful with that. I actually would assume the TMBGITW was a typo, a mistake due to an intern's amateurism who got overenthusiastic, or maybe it came from a document that wasn't corrected due to negligence, from a time TMBGITW was considered for the compilation..

I appreciate your expertise in PR and marketing, so if u believe there was a strategy behind it, please let me know.

.

To reply your more personnal comment, I am only one of many knowledgeable people on this board when it comes to Prince. There are many others who know just as much as I do. My whole "you people" statement had nothing to do with knowledge or expertise but with the Org itself. This board has been, for many years, crawling with lunatics, people with obvious mental and emotional issues who seem unable to accept reality for what it is and live in their own pojections. The org is the only place in my social life, IRL or online, where I have to cope with such people on a regular basis. So I apologize if I'm sometimes harsh with sane people like you, but I have grown somewhat intolerant here.

.

The fact is here we are discussing informations provided by WB and Funkenberry. We can doubt them all we want, they are what we do have and all we do have. Words have a meaning: "of" means "of" and "considered" means "considered". While one can, as you have, express doubts as to WB's honesty or professionalism, it is a very different thing than actually reading "pink" when "blue" is, in fact, the printed word. For all I know we can assume that there won't be a second CD at all, or that all of its content will be remixed by Justin Timberlake, or that it will contain only outtakes from the Diamonds And Pearls era, or that it will be a WB sampler featuring WB's latest new artists. For all I know we can even assume that WB does not exist and that Prince doesn't exist either, and that we are living a dream. You're going to say that I am making no sense, I'll reply that when you've spent as much time on this board as I have, you expect certain people to claim that the Earth is flat and to try and support the claim with pseudoscience (it has, believe it or not, happened not so long ago), or to distort Prince-related facts into fiction all the time.

.

So I'd rather stick to what we know when having such discussions instead of having people reading whatever their mind tells them must be there in a press release. And if someone whants to jump into what if scenarios, then at the very least I'd expect them to specify it clearly.

I agree. It is possible that he planned to do so before he gave-up on using it, and never got around to doing it. Or maybe he felt it was perfect as it was. Or maybe he did rework it, but if so it hasn't been documented AFAIK.

I know who started the Org and who was here back then.

The criticism isn't the problem and debate is always welcome.

I've always loved the Org for the debate and I pay attention to your rants even though you can go off at times. Most of the time believe it or not I have somewhat agreed with you.

The problem is who gets to call who what.

If you call them "elitists" it's reasonable for them to call you a hater.

Yes, any non album version is welcomed by me as well. A clean version of Moonbeam Levels is great as well. I've loved this track for years when I first heard it back in the late eighties I think it was. Then it was released on A Better Place 2 Die bootleg. Great, great song in the way I love to hear him.

Oh there are a lot of crazies on here for sure and I understand the frustration (having been on this ORG since the beginning and the previous version) but generally I just ignore them. I just feel your tone was/is sometimes uncalled for. Any review of my previous posts will see that I try my best to always be respectful even if I do think someone is pathological!

BTW I am not suggesting WB have a deliberate/dishonest approach to the Press Release. I am more in the camp that it is cock up more than conspiracy and poor drafting. As said I know that Press Releases are not always definitive customer promises (as demonstrated by the TMBGITW issue).

The reason our two way discussion started was because you were, apparently, reading more into the press release by suggesting (or perhaps just hoping) there could be 3 CDs. So you are in fact guilty of the thing that annoys you about others in speculating beyond what was written in the Press Releease! As I have said, I hope you are right but will still stand by my prediction for PR Deluxe.
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

If anything, the 'hardcore fans' would surely want the 7" versions previously unreleased on CD rather than the same album versions they already have. Things like 12" and 7" versions previously unavailable on a digital format is the main pull for these kind of releases for me.

I find it amazing that some fans actually want or would listen to radio edits, much less pay for them. I can understand the desire for a collection of 12" versions which are extended from the album, but a 7" radio edit has no appeal to me, but I respect your opinion.

I hardly ever listen to them, or have much interest in them, I just have them because I'm a completist, and in that regard would certainly like to have all of them from CD sources instead of those vinyl rips of various sound quality that I have.

Fair enough. I actually hadn't paid much thought to it, but when people suggested the second "album" is made of already available material I thought well that's not what they've announced, so I assume either b-sides and maxis won't be there (which would be a very unpopular thing to do), or the second CD is made of them (= WB commiting suicide) or they're on a third CD they didn't care to announce. My logic is that the press release doesn't actually claim there will be only 2 CD's, so I'm speculating beyond the text, not against it (subtle but essential difference IMHO) wink

.

And yeah ur policy of always being kind and polite even with psychos is obviously better then mine, it's actually my policy IRL and on social networks. I've just lost my patience here, long ago, and I'm very sorry about it.

This seems like a lazy track list. It is just a bunch of the A-sides-- including Europe only and Promo only releases. Which seemed to be picked based more on track length as opposed to over all quality or intrest.

Granted it at least includes an offering from each of the first 14 albums yet somehow it has some glaring omissions. Maybe a 3rd CD was in order?

Personally, the inclusion of "Gotta Stop )messing about)" shows they did not really know his catalog. Its only interesting thing is it was the first non-album single he released as an A-side (in Europe). Sure a few of the single edits are a little different in the mix than the album versions. At least one is longer (KISS) (i assume they used the single version) but the differences are nothing this sets buyer will even notice.

The BIG thing they could have done to send this over the MOON! Would have been to include Prince's known to exist studio version of "Nothing Compares 2 U."

I have to agree with everythng you've written in this post (go figure!). It is a very lazy effort. They also missed a trick by not including Sometimes It Snows in April, which was part of so many tributes after his passing...

Meh I wouldn't stress too much about this compilation and its tracklisting. We all know they're just getting a quick hitter out for the holidays that doesn't require too many round table discussions amongst the powers that be. Nothing more, nothing less. The real goods will begin in 2017 when we start getting vault material and any potential new releases. Those are the tracklistings they need to get right.
