Check the Fun With Vinyl volumes 1 till 18 from the same guys.

They cover most of what you ask for. wink

Those sets, together with this one, are essential archive material. cool

Busy doin' something close to nothing

Fun With Vinyl is orgasmically good. The only thing that would make it better is if it had some of the Sheila stuff it's missing. That's what I'm really hoping for.

Thanks! There are two Sheila releases that I haven't seen anywhere, though: The instrumental version of Sister Fate and the longer version of Hold Me. (Admittedly, the longer version of Hold Me is only of value to seriously obsessed completists--I think it's like 10 seconds longer or something--but still...I have a crappy version of it and would love to have a nicer one.)

Thanks squirrelgrease! thumbs up!

So what do you think of 7" edits? To me the only unique ones are the mixes like "Let's Go Crazy" because they try so hard to add some of the album version into a 3+minute mix especially at the beginning. Most others just fade out though. Or skip the long intros.

Also the ending of "Hello" is also different from the 12" version.

I dig 'em. I do gravitate towards full versions or extended cuts, but the reason behind sets like this is to bring certain songs from Prince's catalog to the digital domain. Most of them were never released on anything other those jukebox-friendly 45s, so for many, this is a collection of rare and often forgotten versions of songs that deserve a place in our libraries. As you point out, there are little things about the edits and truncated cuts that make these singles special in their own right.

In many cases, these are the exact songs that I heard on the radio for the very first time... memories cloud9 .

Yep I first heard all the 1999 and Purple Rain 45s first. Memories is right! I have a lot of these on 45 but deifinitely not all of them. I just noticed that on "Housequake" they cut out the "shit" of "bullshit"! lol

And to think someone actually sat behind the desk or mixer to determine what would be cut out and what would be left in for the single edits.

High quality archival of out of print vinyl is ALWAYS a good thing!!

If the original tapes are not being remastered properly then it is up to the fans that collected the orginals to do the next best thing...

Big thanks to those responsible for this and for the other mentioned sets! Please, keep up the excellent work.

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...
