Carmen On Top is an unreleased song recorded on 9 March, 1991 at Larrabee Sound Studios, West Hollywood, CA, USA (three days before Simp The Pimp) for Carmen Electra's first album, which was planned to be called On Top. It was included as the second track on a configuration compiled on 15 June, 1992. The track was credited as written by Carmen Electra on the credits printed for this configuration of the album, and contains a vocal sample from funk bassist and singer Bootsy Collins. The song was ultimately rejected from the album, however, and the album was renamed Carmen Electra. In mid-September, 1993, the song was tried out during early sessions for Mayte's first album Child Of The Sun at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA, and may have been renamed Mayte On Top, although the song may have been used only to determine appropriate song styles for Mayte and the lyrics may not have been reworked; details of her version are not known.

Song Meaning
Verse 1
"What you gonna play now?"
Verse 2
(Tasty)
(Let me)
Verse 3
Just a little lovin' early in the mornin'
Mmm, mmm
Flavors, so many flavors 2 choose from
All delectable in their way, it's very hard 2 choose just one
So as I think slowly and try 2 decide
Out of all the lovely treats, just which one am I?
It's hard 2 say 'cause I'm a special blend
People will try 2 put me in
A category 4 which there is no room 4 expansion
Don't you see that move is doubtful?
Because the fruit is bountiful
Turn me over slowly and I guarantee a mouthful
Verse 4
Just a little lovin' early in the mornin'
Easy does it, take your time
Tasty, now you know the meaning of the line
Just a little lovin' early in the mornin'
Verse 5
And now that you've had a taste, could you waste a dropful?
Of a nectar so sweet guaranteed 2 keep you youthful
A hot tasty hors d'oeuvre
Or better yet, what would you prefer?
Hot fudge over ice cream topped with whipped cream?
Passion is in the fruit and I can't stand it
If it could be bottled, people would be demanding it
And that would be just 2 scandalous
Verse 6
Just a little lovin' early in the mornin'
So as I simmer basted with a touch of honey 2 give me a glimmer
Or should I say shimmer of sweetness
Pound 4 pound I can see no weakness
(Oh glory) Glory 2 the Father
If you think you're praising me then don't even bother
Excuse me, I don't think they heard me
Turn it up a little louder
Cool, here we go
Verse 7
Just a little lovin' early in the mornin'
Hmm, I'm feelin' effervescent, refreshed, lively
Never mind, girlfriend over there who despises me
She doesn't even know my name
That's OK, you should have an attitude when you play this game
These days it's very hard 2 be chosen
'Cause most of us try 2 play like ice cubes frozen
But that'll get you nut n' honey
Guitar man, give me something yummy
Verse 8
Just a little lovin' early in the mornin'
Just a little lovin' early in the mornin'
Just a little lovin' early in the mornin'
So as the aromas fill the room
And the smell of sugar and cinnamon looms
Aromatic in its blend
And there's plenty 4 you 2 choose from on the menu my friends
So take your time
And every now and then try something different and you'll find
Variety is the spice of life that keeps it finger-lickin'
Ah, that wasn't no ordinary chicken
Ha, ha, ha, you better believe it
And at this moment I think it's time I release it
Peace (mmm)
Verse 9
Just a little lovin' early in the mornin'
(Let me kick it)
Just a little lovin' early in the mornin'

Just A Little Lovin' (originally titled Tasty) is the tenth track (ninth song) on Carmen Electra's only album Carmen Electra. The track was written by Prince and Tony M., and produced by Prince (although no producer credit was given, other than Paisley Park as executive producer).

While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking (as Tasty) took place between Spring 1991 and early 1992 (at one of Record Plant, Hollywood, CA, USA, Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA or Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA). It was included as the tenth track on a 15 June 1992 configuration of Carmen Electra's debut album, then titled On Top (with the artist credit "Carmen"). The released version opens with a sample from Make It Funky by James Brown (released as a single in 1971).

Carmen Electra - vocals Prince - all instruments, except where noted Michael B. - drums Sonny T. - bass guitar Levi Seacer, Jr. - guitar Tommy Barbarella - keyboards Rosie Gaines - keyboards Tony M. - vocals Michael B. Nelson - trombone Steve Strand - trumpet Kathy J. - baritone saxophone Dave Jensen - trumpet Brian Gallagher - tenor saxophone

Segue [# 2] is the eleventh track on Carmen Electra's first and only studio album Carmen Electra. It is a musical introduction to the album's next track, All That, containing a saxophone solo by Eric Leeds and some synth tones.

This jam is 4 that special someone
Whoever that someone may be
(Ooh, ooh baby, ooh baby baby, you're all that)
Just let 'em know how wonderful they are
(Ooh, ooh baby, ooh baby baby, you're all that)
Now break it down

Like a symphony in the key of l-o-v-e
Baby, that's what you are 2 me
Like a new dress or a new hat
Oh baby baby, you're all that
In my dictionary there's a picture of you
Next 2 the word "desire" 'cause that's what you inspire

Ooh, ooh baby, ooh baby baby, you're all that
Ooh, ooh baby, ooh baby baby, you're all that
(Oh baby baby, you're all that)
Ooh, ooh baby, ooh baby baby, you're all that)
Ooh, ooh baby, ooh baby baby, you're all that)

And when it comes to S-E-X
What can I say, baby? You're the best
Just the thought of us lovin', kissin', huggin'
(I love it when we have our fun)
It gets me all groovy
When you do a little some of this, a little some of that
(Ooh, ooh baby, ooh baby baby, you're all that)
Psychedelic flashes appear

I'm like a spider in heat in this web of love that you've spun
And as I stop and think, the nectar we drink is of one
(Ooh, ooh baby, ooh baby baby, you're all that)
It's hard 2 believe, baby, the fun has just begun
So hold on, here we go
As we ride, 2 people who take pride in pleasing each other
When it comes 2 you, baby, I've got no limits
I'm not shy, I'm not timid

Honey, you're all that
(Ooh, ooh baby, ooh baby baby, you're all that)
Let's get with it
(Ooh, ooh baby, ooh baby baby, you're all that)

This looks NOTHING like his handwriting. Am I the only one that thinks he didnt write this letter?

I belive it is his handwriting. His script is different at times
IDK if it is due to fingers a bit pained or other overworked but his script is different areas times

Prince and Carmen would go to Glam Slam in Minneapolis often. I'll never forget them dancing to Madonna's Erotica at an after party in the Erotic City room. She was stunning. She also introduced me to Mayte at the airport once. What was interesting is that Prince never brought Mayte to Glam Slam. She would be there, but not when Prince was there.

Retroactively, I wonder if this project didn't hurt Prince's career more than anything else. Prince, for once, eally wanted to score a hit (most PP albums he didn't care) and when it flopped, he put the blame on WB (alongside blaming them for prince not selling as much as he anticipated). WB, somehow, had shown some good will in playing along even though I fail to see how WB execs could possibly imagine they could actually manage to sell this to the masses. Prince's fuss and the project's commercial flop was certainly the main reason why WB decided to reject Gold Nigga and 24, and ultimately shut down the label (I guess they could cope with it being what it was as long as they didn't get shouted at or held responsible for its low sales).

Thankfully no one in the general public knew about that album, or heard it (at least in France, IDK if it was promoted a bit more in the US or UK?) but I remember at the time that music critics and record store personnel, who had listened to it because it was their job, were highly critical of it and saw it as a clear sign of Prince having lost his brilliance. Heck, even me, being only 16 and a highly enthusiastic fan, was very much WTF? when I first heard it. I had been teased by the D&P Tour screen messages and hoped for something really cool, and you should have seen my face cringe when hearing Go Go Dancer and Fantasia Erotica for the first time, on that tragic day I purchased the record.

In the end it wasn't that bad. I mean it was bad, and certainly really bad by Prince's standards, but there's some real cool stuff on it. But the "dance" tracks, stupid lyrics and Carmen's lame rapping ruin it as a whole.

Still, I'll certainly buy the Carmen Electra deluxe remastered box set with outtakes and early configurations when it gets released to commemorate the album's 100 years anniversary in 2092.

Interestingly, the video promotional kit for the album shows that many more promo videos were shot for the album than were released. I hope those are made public at some point (with the remastered deluxe boxset, no doubt lol )

lol You got me wondering until I read that last bit at the very end. I completely relate to all of that, and yet, to be fair, I have heard far worse on the radio before. Though listening to it now, makes me realise it was very much steeped in that early nineties clubby sounds that I wasn't a big fan of either at the time. So yes, I too will happily wait for this album's 100th year anniversary lol.

Of course worse things than that were released in 1993, but in terms of a Prince side-project that was unusually, surprisingly, shockingly bad. Now a major issue IMHO is the 'dance' tracks (Go Go, Fantasia, Judy, This Is My World). The hip-hop/funk tracks are pretty groovy, and I can forgive and forget Carmen's presence on them. But those pseudo techno dance tracks really ruin the whole thing. Prince never, ever understood electronica, he completely missed that train and most of his attempts at it were disasters. Take those 4 tracks out and u've got a pretty decent record on your hands. Nothing that could have scored a hit. Nothing to justify much critical praise. But enjoyable for a Prince fan.

I agree. Whenever Prince tried to 'fit the mold', it didn't work very well.

Segue [# 3] is the 13th track on Carmen Electra's first and only studio album Carmen Electra. It is a brief staged news report commenting on the Valdez, AK, oil spill, and the resulting efforts by environmentalists to slow down plans for oil drilling in the area.

The news report acts as an introduction to the environmentally-themed final song of the album, This Is My House.
