Prince was very upfront about his strong beliefs regardless of his commercial success and what anyone else thought. If this is meant to be a true memorial to celebrate Prince's life it would be important to not exclude his strong beliefs within the memorial, regardless of what others may think.

The Ladder would be a perfect song and perfect image, IMHO.
And the MUSIC continues...forever...

yes like

Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Radiohead ( actrs Prince has said he admires or has covered)

Tom Jones, Santana, David Gilmour....

OMG! I totally forgot about Foo Fighters. I loved their version of "Darling Nikki" and Prince's cover of "Best of You". Radiohead is a fantastic suggestion, too. I hope the family is watching this thread because this tribute concert could be spectacular and so diverse if they would follow these suggestions. Not to mention they would sell out with a list of performers like the ones suggested here.

I'm going to give a very practical answer... assuming they're looking to fill the statium (55,000 people) for this thing, they need to bring in a range of stars with some kind of wider draw. So...Adele? Beyonce? Kendrick Lamar? Taylor Swift? I'm not sure who has that kind of star power, but I think they have to have some of those people, in addition to his 80s/90s-era bandmates/protegees.

I also would be interested in seeing how a broader range of musicians would interpret his music or pay tribute in some other way. In addition to hearing his former bandmates recreate his songs, it could round out the show in an interesting way.

I think they should bring in Maxwell !! beg He has the vocal range would absolutely do justice, especially hitting those falsettos, plus he would also draw the right kind of people, imho. Taylor Swift? disbelief Completely different audience.

I think Maxwell, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys & Bruno Mars would definitely fill those seats (and bring the right audience)! And have the Revolution, The Time, NPG, Mint Condition as backing bands, then mix in Shelby, Rosie Gaines, Bonnie Boyer, Tamar, Andy Allo, Janelle Monae, Bilal, Jennifer Hudson, Sinead O'Connor, Sheena Easton, and those first four taking turns on vocals.

Dance where y'are, just groove y'all.

Those are all great suggestions. Unfortunately, the amazing Bonnie Boyer passed away.

I think it would be cool to have the tribute go backwards 2 the beginning.

1. 3rd Eye Girl

2. 2-3 different NPG bands, maybe the ONA NPG

1 + 2 come 2gether and do Get On the Boat

3. the Family

4. the Revolution

5. Sheila E

6. Apollonia/Jill Jones backed by the Time

7. the Time

3, 4, 5, 6 come 2gether and do Baby I'm A Star

and end with either a very early video of Prince playing guiter or a recording ie Leaving 4 NY

Prince had very strong religious beliefs that we all need to respect. Any ideas on how to integrate that within his memorial?

The Sounds of Blackness would bring a spiritual vibe. I love them...and they are a part of the MLPS Sound.

I would love to see Bonnie Raitt. P's cover of her "I Can't Make You Love Me" was sublime. I think Patti LaBelle should be invited. Frank McComb, who often jammed with Prince, should also be there. What about Miss Lauryn Hill???

What songs would you like Mavis Staples to perform? Perhaps "Time Waits for No One", "God Is Alive" & "Positivity"? "Jaguar" is a funky one that Prince also wrote for her.
I love all those, also 'Come Home' & 'I'll Take You There'.

"When Will We Be Paid," "God is Alive," and anything else she wants to sing!!!

Another sad reality is that, unless she makes a miraculous turnaround, Rosie Gaines is unlikely to be up to performing next month. I pray that she will one day perform again. Her daughter spoke on her behalf at a Prince tribute in the Bay Area.

Making it an all-weekend annual festival with big headliners in his hometown would be a great idea, mcuh like we used to have the annua Police Picnic in Toronto.

To help kick off this poll, here are some suggestions of who should be invited to participate/perform: -Members of the New Power Generation including Rosie Gaines, Elisa, etc. -The Revolution -The original lineup of The Time -Jill Jones -Mazarati -Ben, the founder of Prince.org, can give a speech on behalf of Prince fams/fans -Mayte -Mavis Staples -Apollonia 6 backed by The Revolution -Sheena Easton -Taja Sevelle [Edited 9/6/16 5:04am]

Very valid points! It would be nice to have other band members recognized other than the Revolution. The Revolution was an important part of his career but prince toured with several excellent musicians.

I think they should retire most of his well known hits. They should focus on mostly B-side tracks and other albums other than Purple rain.

I think nobody wants to hear others perform the following anymore even though great songs:

purple rain

lets go crazy

when doves cry

kiss

rasberry beret

When it comes to Larry Graham, it doesn't matter what fams/fans want. Prince LOVED the man, so it's a no-brainer. I didn't mention LG because I consider his inclusion a foregone conclusion.

Should Sheena Easton perform "U Got The Look"? If so, with whom? D'Angelo or Bilal or someone else? If she would perform it with Kanye West or Chris Brown it may very well draw the masses. It would not be a good duet though. What does everyone think?

No. She should sing Eternity.

One other thing, SHEILA E. NEEDS TO BE THERE. I know she presently has another scheduled appearance, but she needs to get her lawyers on the case. They can work out a deal with the people at the upstate NY venue. She's making enough money these days to take the hit financially. Plus, since P's passing, she stands to make goo goo-gobs of cheddar with her t-shirts and amped up tour schedule.

Again I ask: how are the artist expenses going to be paid? I assume out of "the gate." Most celebrities do not appear at any charity function for free; this concert is not a benefit to the best of my knowledge. It is a for-profit show. Therefore, the performers' expenses have to be paid for by the event. How much is the rental of the stadium? I am sure the Estate has been crunching the numbers, trying to come up with entertainers who will play for no compensation. - just expenses.

This is a good question. It will take more than ticket sales, too. Is there any word of a Pay-per-View event? People around the world who can't make it to MLPS, including myself, would pay for that. Or...perhaps a broadcaster will buy the rights to televise the show, live and for future broadcasts.

I would pay for pay-per-view or some type of livestream. I saw Jon Bon Jovi and the Kings of Suburbia via Stage-it on my computer (it was a benefit concert). $50. I believe Mayte used Stage-it for one of her dance classes recently. I would pay over $100 to see the October 13 event. Whatever it would cost. $200. Whatever.

If I had my druthers, no one would sing any well-known Prince songs. People to whom he gave songs should sing those songs (like Martika with Love Thy Will Be Done, Sheena with Eternity, the Bangles with Manic Monday, etc). It is a much clearer indication of the breadth of his influence and, frankly, a lot easier on our hearts than hearing someone else screech his way through The Beautiful Ones.
