A friend just passed this along to me:

UNLESS P's social media accounts are kept active, the systems could delete them. There needs to be an agreement with all social media to archive them (OR to archive them on a permanent P site). Someone who can legitimately represent Prince (family, Londell, Bremer, etc....) needs to take care of this so the accounts isn't/aren't deleted. See this article: http://www.theatlantic.co...um/489776/

Wow! This isn't right at all. Whomever did this needs to come forward and say who they are!! Is this some kind of sick joke? They need to apologize to the fans, ASAP!! This is BS!! mad

I'm pretty sure someone else was always tweeting for him. They might have been his words but I'd be shocked if he was actually the one posting. A lot of famous people and politicians have others posting to their Twitter account for them. But this was just not cool at all and I'm so glad someone realized it and deleted it. I suppose though it's possible the account was hacked and it wasn't the family that posted this. We don't know. [Edited 8/24/16 4:31am]

That is really sick, to type in "Prince's language"......not a nice thing to do to his Fans! They need to apologize and explain.......we're listening.

Yeah, I know. But wasn't the "account was hacked issue" discussed a little while back, when Prince was alive, well as far as we knew and capable of speaking for himself, because there were random postings by what seemed to be a disgruntled interested party? hmmm

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

That was on Facebook. I was there as that unfolded. He reactivated his account around 6am MPLS time and started posting all this dumb shit. "New music coming soon!," "I'm Prince! I'm a stupid idiot who doesn't pay his band members!", "Judith Hill has no talent!", "I'm about to fire 3rdeyegirl! Who wants pancakes??" It was all stupid shit like that. I'm in Australia and this all happened at about 11pm our time. Not many Americans were up, the few that were were saying this must not be him, etc. But I thought: Who would have access to Prince's Facebook account, be up at 6am, and suddenly find themselves in the mood to troll Prince fans? There was only one possibility in my mind.

I noticed that the posts were in the "character" of a disgruntled female ex-band member so I figured he would respond to something along those lines. I posted "Hey Prince, what's going on with Carmen Electra's new album?". He replied. I'll never forget the moment I got the notification "Prince has replied to your comment." My hands started shaking. He said "wHo?" lol I have the screenshot somewhere.

Also, when everyone else was saying It's not him, it's a hack, etc. I said "I think this is you, Mr. Nelson." He replied again: "yEs." Then he posted "Surprise surprise, another treat, another trick" and deactivated his account again. He never reactivated it after that. I'll never forget that night.

Hi guys.
It jolted me when I saw it. I stopped for a second. I would think that the tweet was sent out to preserve Prince's account. If an account is inactive for 6 months on Twitter it automatically gets removed and no one wants that to happen. Be interesting to see what happens with Princestagram. Also there is a problem with getting a name/handle suitable for a memorial account. They are either too long or names already taken. It's been worked on.

I'm not sure about the 6 month thing. As I mentioned earlier, Amy Winehouse's personal account is still up intact under @amyjademermaid. Her last tweet was in 2011.

Hi.
I would think they login regular. Maybe rewrite a bio if there's one on Amy's page. Twitter don't have a facility to make the account a memorial account like Facebook. Prince's Twitter will have to be logged in every 5 to 6 months to keep it up there for everyone and as the majority want it left exactly as it is I think they will be able to arrange with Twitter as on Amy's a way in which they don't have to tweet
https://support.twitter.com
See what happens with Princestagram. 🙂
