In reality, nearly everyone here is an outcast of some kind,

I actually think that's a really good point. a lot of people of whatever age have felt a connection with Prince depsite feeling like an outcast of some time. I would say that every person's Prince journey is personal and should be explored in whatever way they wish. Back in the day pre-internet there everyone's jounrney was much more isolated. I have been a fan for 27 years now and I make mistakes all the time, constantly learn new things (some I learnt from you!) and certainly wouldn't criticize someone who hasn't got it all (Who has?), if anything I'm a little jealous that they have more to discover than me!

I'm 25 years old as well but have been a fan since 2007. I understand where you are coming from but I'm guilty of being that way when once Prince passed away and people started uploading his music up on youtube for everyone to see. Do new fans or people who aren't even fans, know how difficult it was to see any live footage, bootlegs, etc? So yeah I was a bit bitter but now I'm glad his music is being exposed to the general public since many missed out on him as a result of his stance on how his music was distributed.

Lol. I'm young as well. I get the "Aren't you a little too young to be a Prince fan?" all the time. But who cares? Don't get too hung up on what other people think. I love him and that is all that matters. I usually get this attitude towards me in person. Not so much online. People on the org are cool about it. Before this, I was on princefams and housequake and a lot of the people there didn't even know how old I was. It's how you present yourself. I know it's often said but age IS just a number. And considering the age bracet we are in, we will be hearing this for our whole lives. So what? But I must say I'm happy there are a bunch of young people on this site that were lurking and posting for as long as I have. We grew up on this site together even though we may not know each other personally. Prince doesn't care what age his fams are. As a matter of fact... doesn't he like us young?.... lol

I am so glad that you posted this. I felt exactly the same at first about Youtube etc it seemed that people were simply putting his music out there even 'though he had made a stand against it but, like you, I am now glad that his music is being enjoyed and hopefully a whole new demographic of fans might enjoy the genius we have enjoyed and will enjoy.

Don't feel bad. I'm an old fan (1978), had all sorts of memorabilia, tapes, etc...went through a divorce, moved, lost stuff...Life...Now I'm 55, retired, disposable income...and P's gone...At this point in my life I would've loved to have gotten to go to more concerts, but since that won't be, I'll enjoy the music, maybe rebuild my collection, maybe just enjoy the music and...I dunno.

It's been one heck of a nearly 40 year ride. If you're just starting, enjoy your journey. Don't worry about the jerks and don't measure your enjoyment along side anyone else's.

It doesn't have to be a contest to see who the bigger fan is...unless you let it be a contest.

Thank you everybody that has reached out some of y'all are so sweet 💜

P was one of the only constants in my life and I get so mad when people act like just because you can't have or go to everything that makes you less of a fan. Prince saved my life. Got me through some dark dark times and I just wish I would've had the opportunity to tell him that.

Oh, my god. I'm 19, and I'm probably as sad a one can be about not getting to see Prince live and not getting rare, exclusive stuff, but this "snobbery" crap is SUCH a non-issue that it's ridiculous that it was even thought of. Nobody has to cater to your spinelessness and give you baby talk. Nobody is worried about you and your ignorance!!!

She is just trolling you.

The best thing you can do is ignore this lonely, unloved, unhappy person and not buy into her criticisms.

She doesn't even believe any of the crap she said and she only said it to hurt you.

Poor troll, she needs attention so badly that she is willing to settle for any attention at all, even negative attention.

I've noticed that being a younger fan I've always felt like there was a lot of snobbery in the Prince community, especially from completists. I was born like 6 months before Diamonds and Pearls was released. Of course I haven't heard every single solitary thing the man put out and I can't own every piece of material because some things are out of print (and therefore out of my price bracket lol ) I feel like there is a lack of respect where there could be education and embrace. Also annoyed at the people that act like being poor and a Prince fan makes you less of a fan because you can't own all this rare, expensive shit. sorry for the rant, I've just come across some nasty attitudes and comments on here and on Prince fan pages and I'm thinking like, I'm 25. I couldn't get into Glam Slam at 1 years old and I think the first Prince CD I remember clear as Day is Emancipation. It's nearly impossible to know every piece of knowledge about the man as somebody twice my age, but that doesn't mean I love him any less.

.

Of course you can hear everything. There is something called Bittorrent out there and you can also trade with other fans.

"rage reaction" ... ?! ... are you serious?

Why can't another young person properly say, "Hey, we're not all so affected, so please don't lump us in together."

That's an Equally Valid and respectable comment.

Some of us appreciate seeing someone else with a backbone and a pair, especially now.

I actual do respect your viewpoint, and you stated it in an effective way. It was not the viewpoint that anonymous expressed that I felt represented rage but the sheer tone of how personally attacking and emotionally over the top it seemed. I perceived it to be hypocritical to have this type of reaction to the thread while putting someone down for having an emotional reaction. That's all.

The way you delete what you wrote via edit is to insert a period in the top left corner and delete everything except that period. Then click on 'save edit' It should work, if it doesn't work keep trying and eventually it will work. It is important that you leave the period on the post. If you try to remove everything, it won't work.

Thanks. It worked!

you're probably right. there is always snobbery and weirdness in fandom. i got the same sort of thing in bowie fandom. i decided years ago i was going to stop apologizing for "let's dance " being my first bowie record. can i help it that i was born AFTER he retired Ziggy and the spiders?! does it mean i love and admire bowie any less?! of course not! i'm sure it's the same for you prince newbies. i hate that you guys didn't get to experience the PR world of 84'(every early fan's vindication, imo) but all of it's good, so dig in and enjoy. wink
