I think Brianna & VN have a better shot than Carlin Q. John L's behavior towards Duane - looks like a textbook "putative father."

--- I do not think either have a shot and it is shameful they way they are dragging this out for no logical reason. These people are not related to Prince and they are being difficult and causing all the trouble. Reading their discovery plan how will interviewing people and showing pictures of Duane with Prince and Neksin family members change anything. What Nelson family members or employees are even going to cooperate. Nothing that a head shrinker has to say will change the fact that they are not heirs. Dragging this out to April of next year is shameful and sets a precedent that anyone that was friendly with a deceased person can inherit money. [Edited 9/2/16 5:25am] [Edited 9/2/16 8:27am]

There is more to the John L./Duane relationship than just being friendly. John L is named as Duane's father on his birth certificate. I read some place that Duane's mother died when he was young and John L cared for him after that. The "putative father" is a legal concept that deems a man someone's father if they hold themselves out to be the father, even if they are not genetically. Being named on

the birth certificate, publicly claiming to be the father, and caring for him - these are things that could be construed as being the putative father.

Duane was born after John L divorced Duane's mother. Even though John L was listed as his father on the birth certificate it does not make him his legal father. The only way to do that is through a court order. There is none. I believe their attorney is hoping they offer money to go away. If not the estate will be in the appellate courts for years.

--- Well maybe the judge can make quick decision. Appeals cost money how long do you think the scam artist's attorney will hang around holding some gold played record as promise to pay his fees.

--- Will's can be contested. James Brown had one and so did Ray Charles. Those estates are just getting settled due to people contesting the will. A trust is a better option and will still do not know if he set some money aside in a trust.

eek Well thanks for the insight! I am going to bring this up with old Accountant Dad whose assisted quite a few people in Wills? I thought if you had a legit one it was good to go! hhhhmmm Very Interesting And of Course the 2 you mention above being Black, some of our people can be, well you know, when it comes to money lol razz

On the flip side, when it comes to Rich White Folks, like George Steinbrenner

, the former owner of the New York Yankees, when he passed I wonder was anybody contesting his Will??? biggrin

--Probaly, not I hate to say this but someone white who may have been raised with money would appreciate what they are receiving. The heirs may have an education or a skill be smart enough to invest their inheritance and not drain estate with costly law suits. Sometimes a lack of education can make people desparate and greedy.

I think Robin Williams is/was(damn that's hard) white, he had a trust.

http://www.investopedia.c...estate.asp

Those who have claim to Williams' estate have been fighting over it as recently as October 2015, over a year after the actor's death. Williams' widow, Susan Schneider, and his three children battled in court over the outcome of his estate.

____

This is interesting: The restrictive clause that Williams put in place to protect his image licensing means that his family cannot profit off of his likeness until 2039. This prevents his name, photograph, voice or signature from being used in any film, advertisement or endorsement.

CQW did not meet his deadline to choose an alternate lab for DNA testing. The Judge made the selection and gave a deadline of 9/21 to comply or... he gets the boot.

Maybe he is paying him the way people do favors in prison. I was wondering the same thing. Enough with the frivilous claims. His DNA did not match the first time, how will it match a second?

Pathetic.

The ex-wife pulled her petition and it was settled outside of court I think, but still the estate was tied up in court for over a year after his death even with a trust.

We're hitting 5 months with Prince without anything.

Well then there is nothing you can do. Maybe you should just give money to your heirs while you are alive and well. I have a friend whose Dad actually did just that gave his 2 children their inheritance while he was alive.

Well there are other things in the trust that are interesting that weren't contested, so it wasn't pointless, but it's no gurantee nobody can tie up the money for a while if they want to.

I've just come to the conclusion that Prince did what he wanted to do while he lived and decided he had no control after he passed so why bother, if you truly loved him you'll do your best not to screw his stuff over, if not then everything is a moot point.

--- Well he knew what would happen he was executor of his dad's estate. I think he thought his siblings would contest a will so just let the state split the money but I am sure he did not imagine that weird would claim they were his children and I am sure he thought he was done with Duane. I also don't think he thought he was going to die so soon after all he was seeing about going into a rehab and took something mislabeled.

He's seen a lot and made his decisions based on that, for better or worse. He did as he pleased even if it came at a price, I believe he understood that.

And I've looked and looked and I can't find the filings for ST and Mani anywhere. I see Judge Thomas name come up a few times, but nothing about that case. Was it sealed? Now that would be ironic.

The documents aren't available yet, but you can view a log of the divorce case, which includes the ST filings using this link: http://pa.courts.state.mn...1610461456

You will probably need to click the "Civil, Family, & Probate Case Records" option. You can search by the case number (27-FA-06-3597) or by Party (Nelson, Manuela). YOu will only get a filing listing, not the actual documents. I don't know if there will be a page similar to the one they have for the probate documents, but that would be nice.

Thanks.

Still weird that a case saying the public should have access to some sealed files doesn't have it's files open to the public.

Has it been 30 days yet? They had 30 days to appeal. Also, if they weren't going to appeal they had time to file with the Court those items they wanted redacted and then the Judge was going to rule on those submissions.

I think the 30 days ends on the 15th. I'm wondering if Mani is waiting until the last minute to file an appeal in hopes of extending the release of the documents?

I'm not sure how this all works but I would assume any papers filed in regards to the ST requesting to open their divorce papers would also be available to the public. The article said that Judge Thomas Fraser wrote a 17-page order to unseal the papers. Now I remember the article had a link to a copy of that order, it doesn't any longer. It seems nothing from that case is available for public eyes. Is it me or doesn't that seem weirdly ironic?

Based on what's going on with PP I'd assume there are tons of things going on that aren't opened for public eyes just yet, but those that are in the right circles have some idea of what activity is going on. So we wait, twiddle our thumbs. Me personally, I'm taking up residence on my stoop again, waiting for something that makes a micro-bit of sense to pass through, as I've been doing for quite a few years now.
