Random Question About The Voice- Prince/Morris/Alexander?

Not relevant to anything, but I've often wondered who originated the "voice" as credited to Morris Day (i.e. saying "MOW-ess" instead of "Morris" or "YAY-esssssss" instead of "Yes"). I've always generally thought of it as the Morris Day voice but I've heard Prince use it in "Cloreen Baconskin" and other random interviews or kinda-unguarded moments caught on film. Similarly, I've heard that voice imitated by Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Alexander O'Neal in various interviews (i.e. the Alexander/Cherelle Unsung) and other random stage banter.

So here's my question- who originated that voice and who is imitating who? Are they all imitating Morris? Or Prince? Or Alexander O'Neal? Or some other unknown person that all of them knew back in the day in Minneapolis?

____ I thought they said it was based off of Prince's dad.

Morris made a career out of a character that Prince created
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
