Odd why it was not only not released.in the U.S but in the UK it was given away practically free (very cheap) with a newspaper. I remeber at the time many U.S fans were annoyed about that and felt disgruntled Wonder why this strategy?

I read a little bit on it - apparently there were plans to release it in the US but something fell apart with the negotiations shrug

Good description... To me, it soiunds more like a more like an older, more mature sequel to the "1999" album.

And totally agree that the album is crazy good and consistent. "Future Soul Song" is awesome.

I like it. There are some songs on it that I don´t really care about but at least three songs are just as good as songs from his classic albums.

I like Future Soul Song, Sticky Like Glue and Walk in Sand a lot, and the rest is pretty solid, too ( don´t like Compassion, Everybody Loves Me), and Lavaux and Act of God are ok but the lyrics don´t really touch me.

The album cover is so much better than his mid to late 90s covers or any of his other more recent covers.

The artwork is dope! I wanted that shirt when he wore it at the BET awards - I was like, "this mf got clothes w/ his pictures on it!!" falloff TOO DOPE FOR WORDS!! clapping

You can order the shirt from Amazon for under $20; don't know if it's an "official" Prince merchandise shirt though. wink

I saw that shirt! Something is stopping me though, looks cheap. I like the way his has the image all the way to the sleeve - imagine a custom dress like that, high neck & all drool I may cave just to have the image though biggrin

I think 20ten is a very enjoyable album if and only if you are a fan who digs modern Prince. I love it and listen to it a lot, but the people I've played it for who weren't committed Prince fans were like "turn this shit off and never be in charge of music again."

I always like at LEAST a handful of tracks on every album (besides C&D falloff ), new & old. Yes, his old stuff is the most reliable, but he's my guy & that's just the end of that story worship Sounds like I'll dig it! music

Yes, prices are a bit high at the moment, keep checking though you might find a bargain. I would have sent you one but my supply is long gone.

This.

The only difference was that some of the card covers were matte, while others were gloss. I kept both because I'm anal as f*ck.

What a GREAT album. I love it. And by "album" I mean exactly that.

IMO, "20Ten" is best listened to in order, in one sitting, and at maximum volume. It truly is an album in every sense of the word!

Funny that you say this, as I think of 20Ten as a throwback eighties album. I thought 20Ten was a decent 'return to form' album for Prince. An album where Prince finally sounded more like the old Prince again, with songs that could have fitted on a series of Prince albums that were released in the first half of the eighties.

The run of the first 6 songs is very enjoyable IMO. I don't like the two ballads that follow much though, pretty as they are they sound boring to me. Everybody Loves Me is a fun throwback to Controversy/1999 era electrobilly songs like Delirious. I am in two minds about Laydown, there are some really cool elements in this song but it is a bit hectic/over the top for me as a whole.

I almost never play new (or even old) Prince music for friends. He has been some sort of private pleasure to me for most of my life, although most people know that I am a huge Prince fan. And my girl hates all new Prince music with a passion and can be very harsh in her criticism when I play a new(er) Prince album. We are in the process of breaking up at the moment though, so soon I hope to be able to play some of my newer Prince albums and enjoy them without having to endure her disdain for all things Prince besides the hits! yes headbang cloud9 wave

That's the first time I've ever heard someone say "Dirty Mind" and "Musicology" in the same sentence fishslap

Or 'Dirty Mind' in relation to 20Ten. They're worlds apart.

I listened to it just yesterday after not listening to it in years. I've decided i really like Lavaux, Future Soul Song, Sticky Like Glue and Laydown. They make my best of the last ten years list.

Also the presence of the Linn drum. biggrin
