Exodus is HELLA tight, funky and just damned awesome. I have been listening to it on the daily, and a few weeks ago I got to listen to it on a high-end McIntosh system driving B&W 800D monitors at an ungodly volume. It. Was. Heavenly. Literally.

I think it's the best-sounding Prince album ever. I would love to hear it on vinyl.

"The Exodus Has Begun".....damn. That song is fiya. If anything Prince album should have been a hit, it's this one.

I have it on vinyl but it appears to be the same mastering as the CD, so unlike SOTT, it is not the improvement I had hoped for.

The better question is; do u own a REAL copy?

The Good Life (Big City Remix) too hot, too hot! The comedy on the entire album is classic Prince... cannolis... man, I miss him.

I do. On CD. But the one I listen to is a homebrew copy I made that gets rid of the segues and "Cherry Cherry" and adds "Days of Wild". It's awesome. In fact, I'm gonna go play that right now.

So much FUNK on that album.

Oh my yes. I think it's the funkiest record he ever made and it's one of my favorite albums of all time, by Prince or anyone else.

And, wtf? Help me out here. Why does editing a quote make little teeny tiny text ^^^like that^^^? Why do hard returns sometimes work and sometimes not resulting in long posts that are just a wall of text?

well that's good to know, as I've been searching for it for about a year now since I bought a turntable.

*Mashed Potato Girl is so much fun--the rest of the skits are crazy and FUNNY!

*Much of the lyrics and dialogue found in this recording make me howl enjoyment.

*Big Fun gets played LOUD every time!

*The Exodus Has Begun is Prince serving notice to the record labels--such nostalgia.

Agree...a fun album. It will find another audience over the next few years.
So what does that leave us with?

A great record. If Prince ever did a more wall-to-wall funkier album I haven't heard it. Possibly 1999 can make an arguemnt (DMSR, Lady Cab Driver, 1999, ATCLUINY, Automatic) and some people would say The Black Album but I'll take this one.

Return of the Bump Squad

Hallucination Rain (not funky but perfectly placed as a pace changer)

The Good Life

Big Fun

The Exodus Has Begun

Get Wild

Count The Days (again, another nice change of pace and a great track)

NewPowerSoul

...

I even like my edit better. Strip out Cherry Cherry and the segues and get some Days of Wild up in that shit. I think it's rather underrated, probably because fewer people have enve hard it, but all of my friends who dig funk fucking love it.

Yeah, I know. If you like funk, it's okay. But the way I see it, we already have a George Clinton and a Bootsy Collins andI have no interest in Prince trying to sound like them, no matter how well he does it. Prince is at his best when he's in between two or three different genres, taking a bit from everything and making it unique. I just can't say that about Exodus.

I'm beginning to understand the root of our differences. I love funk.

Funk is my thing. I don't think it "sounded like" the acts you name, at least not in a way that led me to want to play "Stand" or "One Nation UNder a Groove" instead or in a fashion that felt like a cheap rip off. Far from it actually. I thought it sounded like Prince and exactly the way I wanted to Prince to record a funk album. It was more organic sounding than the Black Album and more raw than 1999; equally layered, well paced, inotoxicating and, for once, well produced.

The only thing we didn't get from it were a lot of guitar solos, Prince out front on vocals and, refreshingly, no falsetto ballads. I maybe could have used a bit more guitar in the front in the mix but the botom end makes up for it.

Some of those are good suggestions but some I'd say don't work, even though I like them. I was trying to trim it down to one CD and Days of Wild works perfectly.

Also, It Takes 3
I know it's not as strong as the other out-takes but I love the organ on it

I remember this record store opened in a strip mall in the philly Suburbs near us and I was shocked to see the place packed with bootlegs. This had to be the late 90s. I got to talking with the guy working there about Prince and he metnioned Exodus. When I told him I never heard of it he said, "It's big and funky and it sounds like Prince is playing as if his life depended on it!"

I finally found it online and ordered it and I remember the day it came, running home and just being blown away by it. I love the vibe, the performances, the production. It's one a go back to again and again.

Any Exodus fans out there?

I don't have the answer to your question about editing a quote, but I agree it's the funkiest album he ever made!
