Petition to BET and Grammys

Why don't we start a petition, and head it off on what artist we think would best fit a prince tribute that is fit for our "Prince"....We can brain storm and come up with a great list-Im just saying, something other than being dissapointed again, When the photo montage appeared I was like WTF, Madonna didn't want any attention off her-my 8 year old could have put a better powerpoint montage together....I am just throwing a suggestion out there-

"Bluu" had some great ideas

Bluu, quote;

BTW, I don't mind at all that Madonna was part of this tribute, or that she sang NC2U. The tribute was too short and there should have been more artists, more biographical info on Prince's life and career. Madonna should not have been the focal point artist to carry the torch for this tribute, is all. I don't get the impression she loved him. Stevie loves Prince, almost like a son or brother. Quest loves Prince almost like a father or uncle. That sh*t is REAL. I don't pick up on that from Madonna so her being the main person doing the tribute felt very hollow and unsatisfying to me for that reason. The outfit was great--appropriate. Her singing was fine--her value there was as a longtime peer, rather than to be the best voice in the room--but I would have had at least two other artists doing Prince's songs. Shoot, just sitting Stevie at a piano to play Purple Rain would have been more moving to me than Madonna's piece, because Stevie's whole heart and soul would have been put into it.

.

There's only one person who I would have been okay with sitting in his throne. Just imagine if when the purple throne turned around to the audience...and Joni Mitchell was sitting in it, strumming a guitar, singing "A Case of U" while photos of prince played in the background. Dammit I'm about to cry again just picturing it... Tears of joy this time. God, what a proper send up that would be.... U know Prince would have come back down to Earth just to watch Joni play for him in his honor. He wouldn't miss that for the world. cool

.

Imagine if she was singing ACOU, with a video of Prince in the background on the big screen, also singing his accoustic cover of ACOU on piano... Kind of in the spirit of the Natalie Cole/Nat King Cole duet. It always seemed like he thought of Joni as his spirit/musical mother.

.

I could drink a case of you, darling

still I'd be on my feet

I would still be on my feet...

When D'angelo did Sometimes it snows in April, that's a wrap for me.

Unless the revolution, NPG and 3eG do
Some sort of revolving performance ala Jools Holland with very specific cameos helping them out such as Janelle Monae and Alicia keys etc then it will never be appropriate in my opinion. And I don't wanna see another go to Purple Rain unless it's the revolution doing it instrumental only with a spotlight on the white cloud on a stand in the centre. Fuck, now I'm choked up thinking about it.
If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

How about we don't?

Quite frankly, some Prince fans are control freaks and way too demanding.

Prince was loved by the world, he wasn't just our little secret.

The price to pay for his impact is that some artists will do an half arsed job covering Purple Rain, When Doves Cry or Nothing Compares 2 U, just like countless Elvis impersonators have butchered Love Me Tender.

Bad covers=I Love Us from the unannointed.

Let it happen, it's good for his legacy.

Voice of reason in Aerogram...and your right, it seems like I am grasping at straws. You know what? This whole situation is just messed up. I know we all have to come full circle, but this one time I wish the circle didn't have to close.....

Eye Miss U "Prince"........

Grammys has a 10-month head start so if they want to, should be able to put something great together. But, due to the time delay, I'm betting any tribute won't be as big and detailed as it might have been if he would have died within three months of the show.

I'm thinking BET will be solid.

But, honstly, we gotta stop expecting awards shows to do Prince the ultimate justice and stop being so sensitive and offended about what they do or don't do. Man's a legend who means an incredible amount to a lot of people here. There's no way any awards-show tribute can be entirely satisfactory. They exist simply to acknowledge him. I don't see a lot of malice in these tributes, as ill-conceived as some of them may be

Reading fan posts, reading articles, discussing his life and music, listening to his music, looking at pictures and videos - that has been a great and continuing tribute.

I went to see Captain America Civil War on Saturday at a movie theater that has a bar. Afterwards, my friend and I hung out in the bar for three hours with the Prince-fan bartender and two other patrons (one a big fan, one a casual fan) and watched Sign O' the Times the movie and a collection of Prince videos while we drank and shared knowledge and Prince memories. That was a great tribute.

I know, that's an example of a private tribute and the awards shows are public tributes that should serve some sort of larger purpose, make a "big" statement. But, they're swimming upstream.
