Prince invited her to Paisley Park and the interview recording was included as part of the 'Beautiful Strange' video release.

Mel B: "But isn't it nice to celebrate the day you were born?"

Prince: "I'll celebrate the day I die."

Mel B: "Because you'll move on to the next path in life?"

Prince: "Yes."

sad

love mel b and thought it was a great interview..he really let his guard down with her in a way he never would with larry king or any "regular" interviewer.

as to the chemistry, yeah. but i do think as i got to see prince mature over the years, he had a passion for life and soul connections that might make everything look sexual, when perhaps he is connecting on a different level.

that said, if he wasn't married and/or jw, i could see them throwing down for a weekend and her leaving sweaty and satisfied.

(reaching for soap now to wash my mouth...)
"If u love somebody, your life won't be in vain
And there's always a rainbow, at the end of every rain."--peace and love, dear prince.....

Yeah I've seen this one. You get to see Prince in his charming personality during the interview. You can see why many women were drawn to him. It was easy to tell that she was seduced early on. lol By the time they got outside and was on the swingset and slide, she could barely keep a straight face. I'm pretty sure when she left, she got the call from Prince's people wanting to meet up again, privately. Whether or not she accepted will be a mystery. He was defintiely a player for sure and knew exactly what to say or do to get a woman's attention. nod

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Considering Mel B. is a performer and not a journalist, I thought she did a pretty good job. Like Prince said, they were just hanging out. I personally could not have sat in such close proximity and listened to that voice without ripping his clothes off. The fact that she kept her composure and hand a nice little conversation with a MEGA star was great!

As noted, it was by invitation. The interview was released on VHS as BeautifulStrange via his website. It was the first time (I think?) we heard the song "Beautiful Strange", which later ended up on the remix album Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic.

.

Their back'n'forth is funny and fun to watch. I do love that he took her outside to play on the jungle gym on the grounds. He was very happy and playful in those days. The marriage was still in good shape, he was happy to be free of the recording contract, and he was making music (no comments on the quality here) with his idols - Larry Graham and Chaka Khan. If I were prince, that'd be a pretty great time to hang out with someone as fun & silly as Melanie. I always wondered why he said "Jew" when she said "Jewelry" on the word assocation game. Hopefuly it was just because it was the first part of the word.

.

"You ain't bad with your pimp watch."

.

The best thing in that interview was him saying "The best thing you can give someone is a compliment." That has always stuck with me, and I made it part of my process in life.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Speaking of which I recall her later talking about how he wasn't wearing any underwear during the interview.

I always liked this interview. It was chill, relaxed and really sexy. I liked the word association game they played not sure how Jew goes with Jewelry unless its the 1st part of the word maybe? Idk. But as a former hardcore Mayte/Prince fan like when she said food he said Mayte.

Yeah - when they're out on the playset and he gets up to walk, his goods are on full display tucked down his left pant leg. It was... very apparent.

Consider yourself surprised. It was a one-off interview, and he was quite happily married at the time.

This is the same skank that trapped Eddie Murphy with kids. She makes living off men she banged at this point. Luckily Prince is not one of them. I always wondered how she got this interview and how unqualified and undeserving she was to do it.

That post is so demeaning to all women, and misogynistic I can't even begin to break it down.

... Yeeaah, and providing his then wife never listens to NewPowerSoul he's golden. Speculation of course, what do I know? Nothing. Other than Scary Spice is mixed race and circa 1997/8 wore a lot of animal prints, flaunting them so lovely... with her bushy hair...

I would have thought that many people of different faiths who believe they will find everlasting peace with a deity after they die, would consider the day of their earthly death as something they would celebrate.

Maybe a few, but its not a normal response for a religious person when asked about celebrating their birthday. I had a JW friend at school though and I think she said something similar. It was a long time ago, I can't remember the exact details. We used to talk about our faith a lot at the time.

I just watched this interview again recently, I had not seen it in like ten years or so.

I think he chose Mel B honestly because he found her attractive. He was probably curious to know what she is like and talk to her and find out who she was. I remember a story from this guy who knew someone who worked for Prince and she said he used to flip through magazines and find an attractive woman and tell her "Find me this girl. I wanna meet her" He would initiate meetings with women he wanted to meet and the Spice Girls were big back then so I suppose he just wanted to meet Mel B. He asked her some questions about herself and genuinley seemed curious about her awnsers....I thought he seemed flirty with her but she came across as sorta bimbo-ey to me sorry (but ofcourse I've had those kinda moments talking to guys too).

But at the end when he he asked her if she could relate to the feeling of people living vicariously through her and all the unfair pressure that comes with that , I feel like he was speaking about his fans and it was a special glimps into his feelings that he shared with her.

I actually had never seen this until after his passing, so it was such a thrill to watch. I kinda dipped in and out with Prince when he was with Mayte, tbh.

Anyway, as someone said in the comments, I felt like I had just watch a first date: A little awkward but with a persistent undercurrent of sexual curiousity and anticipation. Yummy.

Prince looked so cute and flirty with his hair in his eyes saying, "I do not! I do not!" when she told him she likes that he sings about his sex or "spiritual unions" as he called it. She seemed to blush and flail about a bit. He knew he had her in his palm. lol

My favorite part is when she told him she found him "lovely" when they were walking from the playground. Something about that exchange was sweet to me.

"Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..."
