I never understood why these two ever ended up in the same sentence to begin with. Believe me, I enjoy MJs early work but never felt these two were ever in the same category musically.

Because they both had huge hits at around the same time -- and they're black. That's it. No other reason. At all.

Someone on Facebook posted a meme of MJ and Prince that said:

Michael Jackson owned a huge share of the Sony catalog and he is found dead

A few years after getting ownership of his master recordings,Prince is found dead

It's because Michael and Prince were the two biggest black stars.Let's be real.Comparisons were inevitable.

Well...My grown son just said the same thing. Actually he said MJ wasnt .... compared to Prince I was like dont be disrespectful, but he has a point.

I loved MJ. And I loved Prince. I think the media likes to mention both though in the same story, just to get more attention. They used to especially focus on some sort of made-up feud. As if MJ and Prince really hated each other and wanted to fight each other. I will be glad next month when the media has run out of Prince stories.

I think they respected each other's talent and left it at that. They admired each other from afar. I've always loved them both, but just kinda went more to the purple side

Yeah, that's about right. Have you seen Will I Am talk about when they sort of met each other in Vegas. Kind of a funny story.

Same age, both pretty, eyeliner, hip, black, worshipped and grabbed from the same people that influencced and pre-dated them, eclectic, dynamic performers, diversive styles of music outside the norm for young black males in the 80's. Ruled the 80s. Black. Awesome.

Prince did way more with his gifts though. No question.

I hate the "2016 sucks" posts. "we're losing a lot of great musicians this year!". Prince is not one of many to me. Like no. I didn't even listen to those other people. Can this just be about Prince right now?!! Like I almost wish no rockstar died the year he died so he can have it all to himself. It's like stop stealing his thunder.

People will think of me as immature and selfish, but I agree with you. The day P died I went on instagram and there were pictures of him with MJ and people were saying "First the King, now the Prince" I couldn't stop laughing at the delusion. Prince is the King here IMO.

Anyways, I always thought of MJ as a pop star and Prince as a rockstar.

MJ = entertainer

Prince = Musician

I think because they were the same age, black and had a rivalry (maybe created due largely by the media) and died under mysterious circumstances involving personal staff that may be involved in a cover-up, prescription meds and doctors. It won't be until the all results come in if in its indeed a fact. Also comparing the 2, which is comparing apples to oranges makes the media alot of MONEY!
