Relax. Prince hyped that vault for 30 years. He was proud of it. It's not nefarious that people want to hear what's in it and get closer to him and his work. It's a treasure.

I think everything should be kept as it is. And everything shoud be made available. Preferably digitally, in a huge searchable database. But at least to researchers. NOTHING should be destroyed.

And PLEASE don't leave the material in the hands of those who would use it to promote themself.

Susan Rogers, Questlove, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Wendy and Lisa. That's my shortlist of folks who should be on the board of directors for The Vault.

This. Couldn't agree more.

Bobby Z instead of Quest. He was literally there from the start, driving Prince around, helping from day one.

On the other had we could have music for years to come
And sorry to say but I love the hear something... someday
Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap pimp2

And I descend from grace, In arms of undertow

I don't really understand why anybody needs to be involved.

If music from the Vault is going to be released, the only task is to clean up the quality of the tapes. It should be an engineer who does it. There is no need to "finish" anything - Prince recorded everything the way he wanted.

Unreleased tracks and box sets will need mixing, mastering, liner notes etc.

Leave that to specialist. No need for involvement from people that used to be in his camp 30 years ago.

Get Bobby Z on board, totally. I actually think Questlove would add some value by being someone who's a little bit more detached from the production process, but obviously very engaged on a more conceptual level....

Yeah, 100%. I see these guys are curators, not producers. Don't touch the material and try to "improve" it pls.

Some of those people CO WROTE THE MUSIC. They also co produced and played on it.

The live tracks on PR were arranged by all of them. W + L co wrote dozens of songs, a lot of them unreleased. Andre Cymone co wrote Controversy, I'm yours, Do Me Baby and others. Lisa co wrote a couple of Time tracks. Wendy and Lisa co produced a lot of tracks on Parade and co wrote two uncredited.

Prince has dedciated one track to others in his history? Who was that? One track in notes to three people. Never before or since. Those people meant a lot, and they loved him.

They deserve respect and deserve to be recognized, paid and known.

My guess is that this is most likely to be handled by people we haven't heard of, who have worked on major archival projects for other artists recently.
The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

From what I've gathered about Alan Leeds through the years I'd have confidence in him being the overseer of such projects. He does not strike me as someone that would let it be done the wrong way.

He can be involved in the concert footage work

But that's a worry in itself. Prince, and his world, was by definition so contrarian and difficult to fathom for the uninitiated. We don't want a major label throwing a corporate, templated approach to this; it's far too important, and also I suspect there's a sizeable body of learning amongst Prince fans that would make this too tricky a job for a bunch of suits working from a formula.

All of these folks are to self-serving. If they get their hands on the material they will make it look like they wrote everything. They have been able to shape the way we think about Prince's career way to much. Have you read Eric Leeds' 'tribute' to Prince. He only talks about himself and his closest friends from that time. Not one word of praise for Prince as a musician.

No they won't

They have been very upfront in honesty about the music

I think Eric should be involved in any Madhouse remastering but the Prince album releases are another thing. the Family (if there are outtakes would be good)

Susan Rogers is one of the last people Prince would want anywhere near the vault.

This is from the retracted Ebony interview that he gave in December 2015 (the full text is online if you know where to look):

"There was one engineer who said that their sole purpose in life was to get the stuff out of the
vault, and get it copied so it wasn’t lost to the world. I’m trying to figure out if that’s illegal.
Should I fear for my safety that you might need some medical attention? You want to come
up in my vault and you feel like that belongs to you and that’s your purpose? You better find
something to do. That’s scary."

You may not like it, but those are his own words, written in response to her interview with BBC last year. He clearly resented the intrusion.

I doubt she'll get anywhere near it. Same with W&L. They haven't been involved for decades.

but a lot of the Roadhouse Garden & Dream Factory work was co-written, that is why he wanted to get back with them in 1999 to release it.

side note: Susannah Melvoin has the album artwork for the Dream Factory album

Not really, but I'm not saying not have him, I'm just saying Cat was definately in studio with Prince so add her on.

Susan Rogers just because she is good. Just remaster, I wouldn't want to loose too much of that demoish quality just make it more crisp

I just want it released. And I would rather it by by the people who helped present the music to the world than people who had no connection or working understanding of Prince during the times
