Dude, you don't get it. Even iPods are over. I've got a 128GB iPhone 6, I have over 40GBs of music downloaded from Tidal on my phone. iPhones ARE the new iPods. Listening via an 'app' makes no difference - that app is my music library and player all in one... your iPod classic is a static brick. I could download any album I choose right now and listen without wifi. I also listen to a lot of vinyl btw... but CDs are dead to me and iTunes is a dinosaur platform with no future.

The IPod Classic is GREAT!!!! I've got 25,000 songs on mine with room to go. You can't load nowhere near that amount of music on an IPhone.

Dude, my iPhone is 128GB ...you sure can!

No, it doesn't exactly work like that. The Tidal app is my cloud. If I were to lose my iPhone tomorrow and then had to purchase a new one, I'd simply download the Tidal app again and it will have saved my personal music library and playlists. Then if I choose, I could re-download the music from Tidal and save to my phone to listen offline. I could also login across multiple devices whether an iPad or a desktop computer and do the same.

Ok thanks. My phone is too old and Tidal is IoS.8 but I refuse to update to a new one.

Yes the Ipod classic is great: I have both versions 128 GB & 160 GB, all two in very mint condition & full of music of Prince, The Time, Sheila E., The Family, Wham!, George Michael, FGTH, The Jacksons, Wendy & Lisa, Terence Trent d'Arby, Jill Jones, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Alicia Keys...

djThunderfunk said: I used to think like you but I have a whole other mindset on it now. Streaming music allows freedom and flexibility and the ability to listen to far more music than I could possibly afford otherwise. Over the past five years I've moved house several times and I can't tell you how depressing it is to haul boxes and boxes of old CDs and records from place to place. I realized I was no longer listening to about %95 of them, they were just dusty dead weight I was carrying around dragging me down. I also have hard drives of music I've downloaded over the years, illegal and purchased! literally Terabytes of the stuff! It becomes unmanageable and in the end you don't listen to it. So I sold pretty much all my old CDs and records and just kept some prized vinyl LPs. Now I listen to nearly all my music via streaming and the first thing I noticed was my music listening increased tenfold, I also discovered so much more music new and old. Think about it, how much physical (or digital) music is $10 going to buy you a month? ...not much. If you pay a streaming service $10 a month you have an entire world of music at your disposal - literally millions of songs whenever, and wherever you are. I cannot recommend it enough! For anyone who is skeptical I urge you to try streaming for a month and notice how suddenly you'll get excited about exploring new music again. You can go traveling and all this music can be with you anywhere. No longer do I have shelves groaning with the weight of old CDs! ...god, the thought depresses me! The same applies to DVDs, I used to have a large collection, I'd buy box sets etc. and after a while you're not watching them at all and they take up space and become a burden. Now I just use Netflix. I also read books most of the time on my kindle now, and I seriously wouldn't look back - and I can read those same books on my smartphone too with the kindle app. Honestly, this is the way people! Freedom and mobility! and all this information and entertainment accessible anywhere without the burden of physical product. On occasion I'll still buy a book or vinyl record as a souviner almost of something I love, but even still I usually listen or read the same books and music through these mobile digital platforms now. Don't be a Prince! get with the digital revolution! [Edited 3/18/16 7:04am] [Edited 3/18/16 7:38am]

Have tried it. Hated it. I do not stream anything and refuse to be dependent on a wifi connection to listen to or watch or read something. I still will listen to, watch & read digital files that I downloaded and have a copy on my device, but never streaming. I also refuse to be dependent on a service not closing shop, an artist deciding to change the art (Star Wars Special Edition comes to mind) or pulling it entirely (NPGMC anyone?). I'm glad you are happy with your rental/streaming options. I'll take a pass. If/when renting/streaming becomes the only way entertainment is distributed, it will be the day that I turn to my shelves full of CDs, records, DVDs, Blurays, books, etc... and be extremely thankful that I'm a collector of products that can't be cancelled or altered and that I don't have to pay anything but the electric bill to enjoy. Just sayin'... wink

I couldn`t agree more with you. Physical copies of CDs, DVDs, Books etc will always be the way for me.

Try looking for F.U.N.K on iTunes where it was released. What happened? They run out of mp3`s?

How did we get into a debate of iPod vs iPhone. The iPhone is an iPod. You can load the exact same music the exact same way (with iTunes) onto an iPhone that you load onto an iPod. Exceot the phone gives you more options. At the original introduction of the iPhone, Steve Jobs even called the iPhone a new iPod.

The fact the iPod Classic has slightly more storage than the iPhone is a temporary detail. Apple just last week released a new iPad with 256 gigs. That'll likely be an option in the iPhone 7 later this year.

We got into the debate because someone who totally embraces streaming decided to tell those that don't that: we don't get it, we're behind the times, downloading is dead, physical formats are dead and the only way to move forward is stream... and oh yeah, we're old or something.

One would think that my iPod & home stereo don't work anymore and none of the music on my shelves will play. But, here I am, jammin' old school!! music
