Prince VS Music Distribution : A History!

Starting making a lot more vlogs recently and some of them will be of course be about Prince. Here's the first purple one that we've made (and of course we shouted out Ben and the org!).

It's a history of Prince's efforts at finding new ways to distribute music. See what you guys think. Nothing anyone here won't already know, but it's good to have this info on YouTube for the new generation, since Prince won't put his music there directly.

Nice video, very informative. I didn't know there was an alternate version of Planet Earth. I kinda wish I had the holographic one now lol

Also this is kinda OT but your voice goes a little American at times Casey it's quite an interesting accent you have there smile

Really enjoyed the video. I've left a comment 😉 Great idea for a video and I like the way you've discussed the many ways Prince has tried different distribution techniques. As you say, info for the new generation.

Smart move, well done and easy going informative video. Me gusta.

I have the Planet Earth hologram cd and 20Ten. Kind of wish I had the Lotusflow3r too now.

His distribution method is a labyrinth for sure. Do you know why certain albums are not on Tidal?

Awesome. I love it. In terms of originality, your take on Prince, from the angle of his sometimes outside-the-box, innovative approach toward music distribution, makes this episode of your vlog a cut above the rest. A very worthwhile topic to explore and share on the internet. I agree with others here that your video is informative, clear--and nice you remembered you're dealing with a human being and showing the man some love at the end. Nice shout out to Prince.org too! I am also digging the name 'Violet Reality'. Great title for your show.

.

Thank you for sharing. Such a great job.

.

The background music was seriously grabbing my attention. Was that some extended instrumental Morris Day track or something? Reminds me of "Color of Success." You have to tell me because it's gonna haunt me for the next 24 hours or at least until I figure it out. cool

Thank you so much for all the feedback and we are both so glad you liked it smile We are just getting started with YouTube really but hope to make more Prince videos on topics that are worth exploring with some depth such as this one.

The track was the instrumental of "Lovesign" by Morris Day smile Since you can't use any Prince music on YouTube we wanted to use something quite close and Minneapolis Sound smile

That was a cool production--thanks! This was a great idea to get a video up detailing the chronology of Prince's music distribution outside of the usual music markets of the 90s and 2000s. Congratulations...It'll be interesting to see more different episodes in the future. BTW, nice dancing around with the Planet Earth CDs, and the clever double-entendre about Prince and the "physical release!" razz

Release it! yes

Well, I for one, am looking forward to the next vlog. Make sure to announce it here at the .Org when ready. And bless you for identifying "Love Sign" (good guess Jayspud!). I'm listening to it as I type this. music

Though it's not technically not a Prince qlbum., but Judith's Back In Time received a fairly unique method of distribution. The free download offered over a period of 24 bours or so. The initial free download was lacking the stellar title track, Back In Time. It later received a physical release a la Hit n' Run Phase 2.

I hope it would have gotten a sort of honorable mention despite it being a Judith Hill album.
