This was written and recorded in 2010-2011 for the W2A album.

It was written in response to someone suggesting he wasn't as soulful as Al Green.

True Story.

Not sure about this one, it seems kinda nice when I listen to it but afterwards I cannot remember it at all. UNdecided, maybe a grower.

Interesting, it's definitely got an Al Green vibe.
Where did you hear that if you don't mind me asking?

There are so so many layers to this song. I mean, the accordion (straight nod to the French jazz feel of Parade)...the weird chord changes, the fact that Prince goes straight for the SEX jugular....

This is a weird, cool little sexy song....I'm all in....

Identity

The arrangement is vaguely reminiscent of "On the Couch". Great lyrics, but kinda underwhelming. Maybe I'll grow into it.

The accordion is nicely used and this is definitly much better then On The Couch or Satisfied which both always seem a bit too forced

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Interesting, it's definitely got an Al Green vibe. Where did you hear that if you don't mind me asking?

A friend close to his band at the time. A famous person (don't recall whom) said Prince is a good singer "but aint no Al Green". Prince made this song as a result.

I heard this song a couple of years ago when there was no accordian.

I believe this was added very recently.

When I heard it..it was straight up piano ballad with drums.

Good info, thanks.

The more you listen to it, actually sounds a bit like he's mimicking Al Green in parts.

On first listen it was my least favourite along with Baltimore. After repeated listens it's now one of my favourite Prince songs of the last 25 years.

HOLY CRAP! Prince still exists. I was just listening along and it was like the last 15 to 20 years never happened and Prince can still actually write, perform and produce something flawlessly. This is a nice support track.

When she comes
When she
When she comes

When she comes
Always unexpected
But never rejected surprise
It's always a shock
When he undoes the lock
Then she's there
Without a care
When she comes, when she comes

The house is always a mess
She's cool nevertheless
And here's why, here's why
She remains, as we say
A sweet bird of prey
She flies
And she's satisfied
When she comes

A limoncello ballet
A psychedelic cabaret
In his mind, all in his mind
Without further ado
He takes off her shoes
And whatever confines
When she comes, when she comes

A blue bed of roses
She never closes her eyes
For his artful technique
Deserves a peek
Call it sublime
Cause it happens
When she comes

So sweet the taste
The tears that roll down her face
Don't cry, no they don't cry
Though sad at first sight
They're filled with delight
The 4th of July
When she comes oh
When she
When she comes

.
