Hope so but doubt it. The smart thing to do is make Hitn Run Phase 1 and 2 on a gatefold vinyl...

But Prince tweeted HitnRun Phase 2 will be released on cd soon...

Have to say while enduring a torrent and managing to avoid a tidal wave this sounds really good. Last time I docked at a bay to purchase a Prince album from somalian merchant seamen I wasn't nearly as impressed. smile

I think it might be issued on vinyl intentionally.

Currently at #70 Top Albums iTunes chart.

Shame, it deserves to do better.

No shame about it....Think of it this way...Prince's fanbase is not the Tidal type...They are by most accounts traditionalists...

We've seen Prince do strong first week album sales numbers when he's attached to a major label AND decides to work an album....

Well, Prince doesn't work albums like he's done in the past. He doesn't use his concerts to promote his albums like we saw with Musicology, 3121, ect...Basically, he releases albums to get it out of his system....To unleash to the hardcore fans...

So what u r seeing is INDEPENDENT, RAINBOW CHILDREN era Prince. Except it's even more lowkey than that project (he toured off of that album albeit smaller venues)...

Basically what I'm saying is fans on the Org should be use to P's ways by now. When dude is out there REALLY promoting his music, trust....it's going to do way more than nudge up to 70 on the charts...

But we also talking about an artist that still hasn't gotten around to releasing those remasters that everyone wants in their collection....

Welcome to the confounding, weird, Prince show.....

xmas came early.... don't hate so much boys&girls; that's very unhealthy... just enjoy what you like and ignore the negative urges to say ugly things

Some folks find a beautiful girl or boy and yet still obsess about all the ugly people in the world; enjoy the good stuff

At least it seems like Prince listens to fans more than some give him credit for (re Josh, Tidal, etc):

"eschewing producer Joshua Welton’s impotent and amateurish digital wreckage for a funky, horn-heavy sound that’s altogether more real."

By far the most accurate review I've seen. Though I don't think Phase One should be completely forgotten. After all, it had June and 1000 Hugs & Kisses. As for Phase 2 having too many songs from the past, that doesn't bother me one bit. The first ever album I bought was Thriller and before I got it I had already heard most of it through singles that had been released. So I look at the likes of Xtralovable and Groovy Potential as being singles released before the album.

According to wikipedia only The Girl Is Mine was released before the album came out (a month before), so while I understand where you're coming from I feel it's a pretty different scenario when a fair few of these tracks are from 2-3 years ago.

I didn't even know that was a single LOL.
What I meant was that I was 12 when I bought the album in 2002 so by that time I had already heard all the big hits from it. In fact, it was because of those songs that I decided to buy Thriller in the first place. So having heard some of the songs from Phase 2 already, and getting a feel for what the album was like, I could get it and know that it would be good. Had there not been anything released beforehand, I would have been apprehensive about getting it after Phase 1 being so disappointing.

After listening a few times to the new album:

- I like the instrumentation, the sound and the production a lot. Thanks Prince for keeping it analogue. Would be great to have this album on vinyl.

- The musicianship is ace.

- The album doesn't sound 'lazy', but sounds like a lot of effort went into it.

- There are a lot of enjoyable little 'moments' hidden in each song.

- All 'n' all a more than decent new album IMO, the music reminds me of The Vault and TRC. My only personal 'objection' is that most of the songs are somewhat safe/ MOR sounding to my ears. On the other hand, I by far prefer this to the electronic mess that Phase One brought us. The only tracks on that album I think are worthy of the 'Prince' brand were 1000 Hugs & Kisses and HardRockLover.

Wow... this is a great time to be a Prince fan!

I love Phase One... still... it's so fresh, fun and lighthearted - it's the most relaxed and fun I've heard Prince be in years.... and now Phase Two - after a couple of listens I'm starting to forget the various places I've heard these tracks over the last couple of years... they do all work very well together... Scrwedriver sounds like shit in terms of mastering, can't understand why he alllows that, but still...

This is a solid, high quality album, that's revealing more to me with each listen... lots of detail. And I love that these two companion albums are so contrasted to each other... Phase One sounds like deliberately throw-away (in a good way) party record... and this is more considered, but still fresh and funky...

It feels like he needed the collaboration with Josh to refocus himself... he was wandering a bit aimlessly before, but he now seems refocused and his funk jams are inventive, fun, sexy and playful again...

My preference would be for him to hold onto these tracks and not scatter them out randomly before hand... but hey, he didn't really know what he was doing with them...

Art Official Age was also a very strong record... the anomaly is Plectrum Electrum, a very weak record with only a couple of decent tunes to its name... the 3rdEyeGirl also now looks like an exercise that was necessary to reenergise our man.... and though the record was poor, it did just that...

For me, the last year has been the best in terms of Prince releases since the days of Rainbow Children, NEWS, etc....

These new records for me are FAR more interesting, creative and adventurous than 3121, Planet Earth, MPLS and 20Ten... with only Lotusflow3r coming close....

Loving both these new records! Very happy.

@JOSHUAWORLD had a good little run w/ Prince — and better than nearly anyone else on earth. He should savor it and suck it up; Prince isn't even know for fidelity to his fans. Josh's Screwdriver Remix 6:44 was the bomb; if only he could maintain that quality.

Even though half the album is new versions of songs I've heard before, I STILL think it blows Phase One out of the water. The new tracks are fantastic, and if he'd only released them as an EP it would still be 1000 times better than the mess that was Phase One

This largely match my own views. I too think HnR1 was deliberately throw away in a good way and that collaborating with Josh helped him refocus.
