Why are some singles left out of Best Of compilations?

Any idea what's the main reason some 7" versions have never been released for digital download/stream?

All rights issues with Warner?

I'm talking about singles like Glam Slam, Alphabet St, The Future, Batdance, Scandalous.

Especially Alphabet St en Batdance were big enough hits to include them to a Best Of album I think?

Even though I prefer the original longer versions in most cases, now and then I love to shuffle through some shorter tracks.

The Batman songs are tied up in publishing issues and thus aren't found anywhere.

Alphabet St. is on all available hits compilations... in full though. There's a promo cd with the edit on it.

Glam Slam is mostly unknown to the public. A shame, really. The edited version was on a single for Peach, I think.

Yeah I've no idea why, but Alphabet St had always appeared in the full album version on The Hits, TVBOP, and Ultimate. Unlike When Doves Cry and I Wanna Be Your Lover which are edited.
I had to buy a promo CD to get the single edit of Batdance.

Yes, but the Batman album is available on Tidal for example, so why not the singles (expecially the remixed version of The Future)?

It's always the album version of Alphabet St, not the shorter single version without the Cat rap.

Glam Slam is great, love the Pettibone remix!

Simple.

Because everything that Prince did in conjunction with WB during and after his "SLAVE" period was half arsed.

Isn't Batman registered to Prince now & not Warners, at least it says so on Tidal!

Part of the reason for not including the Batman singles is that they include actors who'd need to be paid. Jack Nicholson would be paid a certain amount of money for his performance.

Greatest Hits albums are generally made as cheaply as possible because often they are just used as placeholders in between albums, and so they try to keep the costs down on them.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Makes sense. But.. does that mean Kim Basinger was paid for her part in Scandalous as well?? wink

Even though it's not Best Of material, I'm very curious for older edits that haven't been released everywhere, like Let's pretend we're married and Automatic..

I vote for a "all singles" box smile

Her part in Scandalous wasn't lifted from a major motion picture on which she was paid as far as I know. I think that was something she recorded in the studio with Prince.
