Really? Is your post even neccessary? (Hint: NO)

It is, kinda. You called someone a troll, and i'm wondering where in the post the "troll" comments (Like for example: any "has been" comments, "Prince hasn't made any good music since 1987, blah, blah", etc.) were, cause I don't see them...

I'm sorry. You'll probably think I'm thick... But what significance does the 4th of November have?

It's a line from the song "All the Critics Love U in New York":

It's time 4 a new direction

It's time 4 jazz 2 die

4th day of November

We need a purple high

Prince did not deliver what he promised! mad Warners allowed him to release two NEW albums and in return,he would allow them to release remasters of his classic albums. They gave him what he wanted (his masters and the right to release two new albums),but he's not holding up his end of the bargain. He's refusing to hand them any bonus material for the Purple Rain remaster.

Why should he have to? It's his isn't it? Plus prince said he delivered to them what they wanted.

What was it that he delivered? Wbr already had the Masters. So he obviously dipped in the vault..rolleyes

Do we know if either of you are right, or, are you both giving speculative opinions?

No bonus? Says who?

WB not sticking to promises? Says who?

Where? When? etc...

My educated guess is that neither party would like to burn their fingers again, after all their history together. I just can't imagine Prince and WB getting back in business together without contracts that specify every little detail of every planned release. Including matters like "will the remasted albums contain bonus tracks and if so: how many of them? And perhaps even which specific bonus songs will be included.

Let's assume it's true; and Prince did just deliver a single CD. Why? Becasue it sounds exactly like the sort of thing Prince would do. Just look at the track record. If that is the case, then I think Warners has every right stop anything being released. Prince might not mind looking a fool but I'm sure they have qualms.

Actually, I expect they're disgusted--and you should be too. Warners are on our side folks. They WANT more material. Any fan that takes Prince's side is complete dolt and doesn't know themselves.

It's a shame that we don't know what the deal was and who has delivered what. However, I really hope that warmers had a very tight contract and get their best lawyers to sue him for breach of contract and he ends up having to release every single track in his vault (even outtakes of Orgasm) to pay. Money is the only language he understands.

what's more is that purple rain is the one album of his 80s output that is

least in need of a remaster since it sounds 'good'. especially compared to
albums like "sign o the times" or "1999" which would benefit more from
an update.

how many of you would buy a copy? i know i wouldn't rush out to buy it
if it had nothing new on it. i'd buy "sign" under those conditions but not
PR. i've never put it on and thought "god it sounds flat/lifeless/soft".

anyway. so remastering and re-releasing it, without bonus content is one

heck of a bad start for any possible remaster series of his 80s albums.

he'll just look at the numbers and go "see, no one bought the remaster,

so that proves that no one wants them" and go on releasing whatever he

feels like (which obviously is not remasters or vault material).

To be honest, if it's just the original album in higher quality then I'm not all that interested. I'm not willing to buy the same album twice.
I don't know why they don't do a 3 disc version. First disc: the album, remastered. Second disc, other songs from the movie, ie. The Time, Appolonia, Dez and maybe some score music to fill in the gaps. Third disc; unreleased outtakes from that period. And if they want to be really generous, have a limited edition that also includes a live show from the Purple Rain tour and a blu ray copy of the movie itself.

Emma doesn't do fan pleasing remastered box sets, but if she did, they'd probably be the best fan pleasing remastered box sets in the world. smile

Plus there's never been any real issue with the sound quality of Purple Rain. I see no reason for a remaster of it.

I wish people who talk about reading interviews where Prince mentioned it to be 1 cd or 2 cds, would actually spend 5 to 10 mins looking for the article and posting the link here.

Otherwise it's just one of those myths, someone starts a rumour, which becomes "reality" in people's minds in 5 minutes.

Sources please!

yes, there is the famous mono master...

Anyway, seriously: as someone else suggested, let's tweet WB with the screenshot of Prince's tweets, and let the public battle commence!!

Then we might finally move this thing forward.
It will also be free publicity for Prince's new 'music' released on Tidal.
Win/Win.

But you know as well as I do that the extra Purple Rain-verse is ridiculous and the longer version of The Beautiful One just doesn't work.

It really takes away from the released versions, and as such I could understand Prince holding those particular versions back. Of course, for the musical scholars, it gives great insight into the process...
