True, it's to much to expect from a man who can't even choose nice purple picks for his fans lol

So true.

I think Warner lost a bit of interest too, after the sales figures came in on "Art Official Age", and "Plectrum Electrum".

If you look beyond Prince's celebrity status--there really isn't demand for Prince releases.

I think "Purple Rain Remastered" WILL come out one day--Warner will hold onto it like they did with "VBOP", "The Vault:Old Friends For Sale", etc., untIL a latertime

Maybe it's just taking a long time for Josh to do all the remixes. Those vocals aren't going to slow down themselves, you know.

Don't even joke about that!

My guess is that P is delaying the thing and will do so as long as he contractually can OR until he gets totally free from WB and can do as he pleases with whatever label he pleases. He makes more money with his masters since he got them back but he still ain't free to do as he pleases with them, knowing him he must not still be satisfied.

My guess,

maybe.. the format "CD" just is impossible to sell, now ..these days??

And Warner just gave up the project before it took off..?

Bruce Springsteen just released a 7-disc deluxe edition of his 1980 album 'The River'.

Fleetwood Mac are getting ready to release a 7-disc deluxe edition of their 1979 'Tusk' album.

So,I'm not sure that I believe the "nobody buys CDs anymore" theory smile I'm pretty sure that Warners desperately wants to do projects like these, but Prince is the one who is holding back.

If these classic rock albums sell enough to jusify 7 disc deluxe editions then surely 1999, Purple Rain & SOTT would as well. Most of the audience that would be interested in these kind of releases still buy CDs, so, I agree that the marketplace is not the problem... It's Prince.

I still dont understand why WB would cave to him and return his masters without an iron guarantee of remasters. Makes ZERO sense

.

They knew chances were low they'd ever get remasters considering the hassle he'd given them over TH/TBS and other compilations and him not fulfilling his 1992 deal. But this new deal involved them getting yet another long-time exclusive hold over his back catalogue, which meant that Prince couldn't go behind their backs if he ever wanted to release outtakes etc., and that he couldn't shop around his masters.

.

I wouldn't even be surprised if the non-appearance of a remaster wouldn't be tied to punitive measures.

There's a Bananarama box set with all of their singles. There's a box set of all Stock, Aitken & Waterman PWL singles coming soon. There's a 3CD box set of Bros's Push. There's a Dream Academy box set. There are labels whose entire output is licensing back catalogues from major labels and releasing box sets, e.g. Cherry Red.

There's a 13 CD Duran Duran box set which contains their first 13 12" singles on CD, too - I think it was released by EMI a few years ago. Each CD has the original art work from each 12". Not really to my musical taste, but a nice box set.

Although I would prefer to see an efficient CD collection of all Prince's 12" releases, this type of extravagant shelf-space-eater compiling all the 12s with orig artwork would be super sweeeeet! Yeah, I'm drooling at the possibility! razz

It has carboard sleeves for them all, and they fit into a box with a hinged top. My wife, a big fan of theirs back in the day, has it. It's very cool. I think it was re-issued a few years later with them all spread between 3 discs in jewelled cases.

A similar Prince release would be extremely good!

Maybe Warner expected to receive some outtakes with it, not only the original PR remastered...

As long as prince did his part with the re-negotiations. Plus seemed VERY happy with the outcome. The sole blame goes to WBR. They're the ones that made false promises & didn't deliver not prince!

He delivered his promise with TWO new albums. STOP blaming prince 4 EVERYTHING that goes wrong with record companies!!!

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince
