the Bad thing about Prince changing bands again now (if that is even what is happening) is that he is in the middle changing and figuring out new direction that works. Too much change can really keep him on a weird path for a while...

Good! The weirder the better! That's how I like Prince!

same here, but I'm not talking about that, I mean at this point you don't want to seem to be all over the place with no real direction -concept music message etc meaning nothing much

The band is not done. 3EG are still together. Its just a short break. Ida and Hannah will be back soon

How do you know?

I don't know but I've got the same feeling he simply has two line-ups now.

I think everyone is jumping the gun as well. He's a musician, musicians jam with lots of different people. 3EG was just featured on the new album. While I wouldn't doubt it if he did drop them, I don't believe he has just yet. Of course anything is possible I suppose. That being said, I am glad to see Donna & Mononeon up there.

I saw the show on Thursday night and thought they sounded really good. It wasn't like they were just noodling around and jamming, they have obviously been rehearsing with him. Kirk has always been around and Mono Neon has been around since earlier this year when Judith's album was being recorded. They both played in Judith's shows at Paisley Park earlier this year and in Detroit.

I like 3RDEYEGIRL for certain songs, but I just don't think they are capable of some of Prince's material. I hate to bring this up, but the whole sampler set thing kind of proves that. If you have a capable band, why are you playing prerecorded tracks in a live setting? Hannah and Josh were not there Thursday night, but they were for the 2 shows prior, but Hannah was just watching from the sidelines. Time will tell I guess.

People keep blaming 3rdEyeGirl for the sampler set, yet Prince has been doing it for 8 years, and with several lineups. I don't like the sampler set, either, but Prince does it because he wants to for whatever reason. shrug

As per the last two Paisley shows, the new lineup is MonoNeon on bass, Donna on guitar, Kirky J on drums.

.

What tells us that this is not a one off gig with this band but his new band until whenever?

If this lineup will persist, then what would have caused the change?

Because Madonna.

No show for her if they weren't.

But yes, he has been busy for a while, or so it sounds when the band plays.

Good point.

But has he shown in other ways that he might end 3EG for now?

For a man that does one off shows all the time (see http://www.princevault.co...pearances) it's not a hard fact that this isn't a one off gig.

But I get the idea.

So the question is:

Is P experimenting or has he already made a more definitive choice of some sorts?

i hope he actually does something with this lineup and ditches 3EG. i'm curious tho. i never seen Kirk live only heard boots. what was so bad about his drumming?

Prince has worked with some badass drummers. Sheila, Michael B, johnny B...so when P gets a new one, they usually have HUGE shoes to fill. It's not so much that Kirky J was a terrible drummer...its more that he followed Michael 'THUNDERHOUSE' Bland. Kirk was a sold drummer. I always crack joke and talk shit about Kirky J.(lol...Kirky j....even the name...lol) but at the end of the day he was a good solid drummer. I believe his main problem was he lacked flair, showmanship, as well as a solidly unique style. He was a tad generic in other words. I've never seen him play live at the venue...only boots or TV like the emancipation freedom concert and the today show and letterman...no issues at those dates...so....he's good...just not special. Maybe I'd feel different if I had seen him at a date...I doubt it, and I haven't... Sooo....that's that. If he's switching...I'd prefer he stay with Hannah.... At least that white girl's pretty. Sonically... Michael Bland...put that nigga on a diet and stick him in the kit. He's my fave even tho he's a bit rock-centric. [Edited 10/16/15 23:09pm] [Edited 10/17/15 9:41am]

Hell yeah! Michael is my favorite Prince drummer headbang

And I liked how they always made jokes about his weight LOL.. "better make that five seats!"

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

Well a one-off gig would mean just that, a one time gig. They have done 3 together in the past week. None of us know for sure whether 3RDEYEGIRL is finished or not. Like I said earlier in the thread, they have obviously been rehearsing prior to these shows. They sounded good. It will be interesting to see what band Judith Hill will play with at the show in New York this week. I'm thinking if Kirk and MonoNeon are not in the band, then Prince has taken them for himself.

The new band are also rehearsed on the hits, in some cases new versions of them (Purple Rain for example), relative rarities such as Paisley Park plus new cuts from HitNRun and even stuff from AOA like The Gold Standard.

That doesn't sound like a band he's doing a bit of casual improvisation with to me.

3rdeyegirl have probably recorded many albums worth of material before they started the recent one.

However, if Hannah is in the audience watching someone else drum I'd say the writing's on the wall. If she was versatile enough she'd be drumming herself.

Only Prince knows. Just as apparently only Prince knows why PR30 hasn't come out yet.

It's pointless asking all these questions.

Kirky J was a superb drummer, Michael B always he was the tightest in mpls. Problem was, Prince was into his pre-loaded beats, triggers and samples at the time, so all Kirk could do is drum over the pre-recorded beats. Look at the opening medley on the Rave concert dvd, all the drums are already there, he's just playing over it, a bit like how Bobby Z had to. Kirk was great, in aftershows etc

This isn't a new band though, 3eg are still together, Prince is just jamming with a house band of sorts.

OHH GAWD! Why can't 3EG just go away. Oh yeah Hannah is married to Prince's boytoy producer. Donna is married to Prince's LOOONGTIME personal ASSistant. Ida... wait a minute... are we sure this is a band, or are they just beards who can play? Is 3EG about music or is it an elaborate scheme for Prince to keep some downlow azz at his disposal without Larry becoming too suspicious??? hmm...

Prince was doing the sampler set way back in 2007 (with a full band, dancers & a horn section..)

I personally appreciate it for what it is...

Prince 'playing DJ' for a few mins with tunes that are Highly Likely to pump up the crowd at a Prince show. nothing more nothing less..harmless

He did that in 2007.

Back then it was harmless or perhaps even OK.

But now!

It is stale.

Lame

Lazy.

If you got so many hits, PLAY THEM.

Or simply just ignore them as there is plenty of other stellar stuff he can play.
