The Greatest Guitar Solo No One Talks About

Why does no one ever talk about the genius guitar solo at the ending of 777 93 11... I think it is so overlooked by Prince fans and historians...

Questlove said in an old interview it's one of if not the best PRINCE guitar solo on any record...

Personally I agree, I really do feel it's his best recorded guitar solo on any album he's released.

I think it gets so overlooked because it was a TIME record.

perhaps indeed, because its a Time album. now that I think about it. the best thing about that song is the drum programming (cymbal work) at the beginning and then the bass work. the guitar solo is much later in the song, and not a "crescendo" moment at that. it actually was dare I say...wasted because its placed near the end where you're perhaps mentally ready for the song to end. its, not FEATURED.

its like a well played, extended vamping outro or something. Its an example of how much P really loves his guitar. that song didn't NEED the solo, but he couldn't resist and slays it cause he's just that good. i always thought it connected the song back to HIM, and the Minneapolis sound, not the Time. an uninformed listener might be like, "dayum this song is good. I LIKE the Time, they're funky", but to me the solo "gives it away" that its him.

btw, Jesse's guitar work on Condensate really demonstrates how they DID take the blueprint he gave them and perfect it.

Its a great solo, but the ones that I connect with the most are Bambi from 1990 live in Tokyo, and Just My Imagination from Small Club. Brilliant.

I always had a soft spot for the Holy River solo, it's one that's super catchy, i can't help whistling along to it.
